30/05/06 v's Lads Club Amateurs (League at
Hazelhead)
Lads Club Amateurs 2 - Postal ALC 1
Postal
turned up to Hazelhead with a decimated squad which saw
Wilson, Thomson, Scally, Ure and Mackie on the sidelines.
Without a sub, keeper Keith went up front and coach Munroe
donned the boots on the sidelines incase of injury to the
rest of the team.
The first
goal came early in the first half when Postal defended like
school boys at a corner. With no communication between
keeper and defenders, the ball hardly needed to be touched
by an L.C.A player in order for them to take the lead.
The
second goal was again defended badly by Postal as a cross
from the Postal left saw the unmarked LCA number 10 knock
the ball past keeper Smith with a good finish.
Postal
pulled one back before half time when the hardworking Keith
saw a looping shot go over the head of the LCA keeper to
give Postal some hope.
Half Time
- Lads Club Amateurs 2 - Postal ALC 1
A fairly
even second half saw Postal battle hard but the LCA defence
never looked in too much trouble.
A slip in
defence from Postal saw Wood robbed in defence midway
through the half. With the LCA number 10 bearing down
on goal C.Patteson conceded a pen. Fortunately Smith
was again on hand to save pen number four of the season.
With the
game going from end to end now both teams had chances but
there were no more goals and LCA walked away with the 3
points.
Overall a
dissapointing end to the season for Postal which saw only
two league wins in the last 11 games, and the management
team must now look to bring in some players in time for
pre-season who can take Postal onto the next level in the
league.
Winning
would have been hard enough in this game with 11 fit players
but with some of the team turning up, for what was a must
win game for the club, half cut and in some cases still
obviously drunk, the management team must also have a look
at themselves for having too much faith in the current squad
and failing to get some new boys in sooner.
Cammachmore must have thought it was Santa Claus time as
Postal gift wrapped 3 goals in this top of the table clash
at Newtonhill to (barring a miracle) bomb out of the
promotion race.
The first
goal came in the opening 10 minutes when a defensive header
only went as far as the Cammachmore number 8 who shot from
20 yards into the Postal net.
The
second came midway through the half when a short back pass
from left back Scally was intercepted by Cammachmore who
made no mistake of sticking the ball in the back of the net.
Postal
pulled one back through Bews
before half time when he picked up a ball on the right of
the Cammach box, cut back and slotted home.
Half Time
- Cammachmore 2 - Postal ALC 1
Cammachmoe virtually killed the game when Postal failed to
deal with a relatively simple ball into the box and the
Cammachmore striker headed home from close range.
Man of
the match (for Postal) Gall
managed to get Postal back
into the game with a good run and shot but by that point
Postal were looking like a team hoping for a lucky break
rather than creating one themselves.
Overall a
result which will see Postal struggling to go up and makes
Saturday's game against LCA a must win game.
Postal
gave up the lead 3 times in a draw which virtually hands the
league to Bervy Caley. The Gourdon club can only throw
away the title in a Celtic/Motherwell manner to avoid
crossing the finishing line in 1st place.
Postal
had a bad start when Thomson (always a risk with injury) had
to come off due to his thigh problem re-occuring.
Postal took the lead through Bews
when a crossed ball from the right saw the striker head into
the net.
Postal
created two or three more chances before the half but the
impressive Glendale keeper was equal to the task.
C.
Patterson (on for Thomson) gifted the away team a goal just
before half time when the Glendale number 8 ghosted in from
midfield, ran by the Postal defender as if he was on castors
and cooly rounded Postal keeper Smith.
Half Time
- Postal ALC 1 - Glendale Youth 1
Although
Postal again had most of the pocession at the start of the
second half it was Glendale who took the lead early doors
when a long range strike from the Glendale number four
sailed into the Postal Postage Stamp.
Postal
continued playing football and were rewarded when Bews and Wilson
gave the Woodside team a 3-2 lead with 15 minutes remaining.
The
Postal defence must again carry the can for gifting yet
another soft goal when the Glendale number 7 was found
unmarked on the left side of the Postal box as a weak
clearance had arrived at his feet. With minimum effort
and challenge from the Postal defender he took a couple of
strides and shot under the body of the Postal keeper to
equalise.
Postal
were obviously deflated but kept up the effort and with only
4 minutes remaining surely thought the game was won when
Westwood
(having another solid game) headed into the Glendale net.
Glendale
had other thoughts though and left Postal gutted when a
simple throw in with one minute remaining was again not
dealt with and the unmarked Glendale player forced the ball
past a crowd of players over the line to sicken the Posties.
Overall
the most painfull result of the season for Postal who will
need to show great
character and team
togetherness
to try and win promotion to Division One for both themselves
and their supporters.
20/05/06 v's Theologians (Dickie Trophy at
Hazlehead)
Theologians 4 - Postal ALC 0
Postal
started this game well and were attacking the home team with
around 4 corner kicks in the first 25 minutes.
A free
kick at the left hand side saw Postal lose the first goal,
though, after confusion between defence and goalkeeper as to
who should have dealt with a basic cross into the box.
In the end nobody dealt with it and it was an easy finish at
the back post for the Thoes player.
Still
shell shocked from losing the goal against the run of play
Postal gave away another free kick with only a minute to go
before half time.
Although
the positioning of the wall could possibly be questioned it
was a great strike from the Theologians players which saw
them go in at half time two nil up.
Half Time
- Theologians 2 - Postal ALC 0
The
second half seen another lively start from Postal but their
desire to pull themselves back into the game saw their shape
being lost and the Theologians midfield began to dominate.
The
killer 3rd goal came when a ball came across the Postal
right, with the keeper scrambling, ex Postal player Stan
Smith scored the goal to virtaully end the game.
Postal
battled on but the shape was now totally gone and it was no
surprise when Theos scored a 4th just before then end.
Overall a
strange game in that, there was never 4 goals in it.
Positives come from the display of Westwood at the back for
Postal and the second half display of B. Patterson going
into a vitally important week for the Postal.
After the
dissapointment of Monday night a quick game on the Wednesay
was just what Postal needed to blow away the cobwebs.
With
changes made due to injury and players being unavailable it
was a changed side which saw Macmillan, Scally, Brown and
Wilson start for Postal.
It looked
like it might be "one of those nights" for the Woodside team
when referee Flett judged that Macmillan had fouled inside
the box after only a minute. Luckily keeper Smith
was up to the challenge and made a fine block to save the
right back's blushes.
Postal
were dominant throughout the first half but as can often
happen at this level a lack of concentration, a lucky bounce
and a great finish, it must be said, saw Stoney take the
lead with 1 minute to go before the half.
Half Time
- Postal ALC 0 - Stonehaven Athletic 1
Postal
made a fantastic start to the second half when Neil Wilson,
fresh from his return from France, collected a through ball
and calmly sprinted in on the Stoney keeper to dispatch the
finish.
A header
from Bews
minutes later gave Postal a deserved lead against a team who
now looked to be sitting in (although doing it particularly
well orchestrated by the experienced Stonehaven number 4
pulling their defensive strings).
A mix up
from a crossed ball saw the away team equalise and it is to
Postal's credit that they stayed patient and continued to
play passing football although time was running down.
A
deserved victory was gained with 10 to go when Ure
managed to get his 14th of the season and the unlucky Stoney
number 4 bundled an
OG
into his own net.
Overall a
couple of defensive mix ups which need worked on but the
workrate and patience paid dividends to keep the pressure on
Cammach and Bervy at the top of the league.
Postal
were brought back down to earth with a bump having won their
last two cup games.
There
have been games this season where Postal have been unlucky
to drop points but on this occasion it must be said that the
Bervy were well worth their win on the night. They
were first to most 50/50 balls, competed better and passed
better in almost all departments. You could say that
Postal looked nervy but that would take away from a very
good performance from this Bervy side.
In saying
that, the first half saw very few chances for either team
although Bervy certainly had most of the posession.
Bervy
scored first through a debatable penalty decision.
After losting posession in the midfield a through ball down
the middle of the Postal defence saw the Bervy stiker one on
one with the Postal keeper Smith. Thomson put in a
late tackle which the referee (standing on the half way line
at the time) deemed to be a foul. The Bervy player
stroked home the pen with minimum effort.
The
second goal before half time was a killer blow to Postal.
A flighted ball into the box was failed to be cleared and a
header from the Bervy player at the back post saw keeper
Smith scrambling across but failing to keep it out.
Failing
to deal with basic defensive headers from the Postal
backline was a major problem all night and changes will
surely be on their way for Wednesday with the return of
Scally.
Half Time
- Postal ALC 0 - Bervy Caledonian 2
Changes
were made going into the second half with Thomson going off
just before half time injured (replaced by Brown) and
Anderson replaced by the returning Wilson.
Postal
looked livlier in the opening minutes and were rewarded when
Wood scored with a long range free kick looping over the
Bervy keepers head.
The Bervy
team did not buckle though and with strong running from the
impressive number 8 got goal number three when a cross from
the Postal left was again failed to be cleared, Smith gave a
good save to push the ball away but only on to the head of
the incomming Bervy player.
Postal
huffed and puffed and to their credit never gave up but
never looked like causing the Bervy defence any problems in
open play.
Overall
the effort was their but the quality wasn't . Pass
marks to D.Wood, D.Gall and N.Wilson. Everyone else
must be thankfull that the next game is only a day away in
order to now put the pressure on Bervy and Cammach to see
how they handle it.
13/05/06 v's Ellon Thistle (Dickie Trophy
2nd Round at Ellon)
Ellon Thistle 1 - Postal ALC 3
Postal
started this tough away tie well and were playing the best
football they have done in weeks.
The only
change from Wednesday nights final saw W.Keith come in for
A.Smith in goal.
The home
team were playing a high line and Postal were struggling to
break free from the offside trap.
Postal
got a bit of luck though before half time when the referee
gave them a very dodgy corner which A. Allan (who had
another great match for Postal with strong running
throughout) sent in low and the luckless Ellon defender
could only send it past his own keeper for an O.G.
Half Time
- Ellon Thistle 0 - Postal ALC 1
Unfortunately for keeper Keith an injured finger saw him
replaced at half time by Smith. Turbine was also
replaced at half time by C. Brown after complaining of a
niggling injury (hopefully both players will be OK for
Monday).
The
second half saw Postal sitting a little bit too deep for
their own good and a bizarre goal saw the home side
equalise.
A ball
down the Postal right seemed to be well over the by line but
instead of playing to the whistle Postal stood like thee
80's Arsenal back line with hands held high as the Ellon fwd
fired home from an accute angle.
As both
teams battled to regain supremacy it took one of the goals
of the season from right back Wood
to put Postal back in front.
Wood,
having a great year after coming in from the cold this
season to make the right back spot his own, collected the
ball just inside his own half, he then ran past at least 3,
possibly 4, Ellon players before firing home from around the
18 yard line.
A. Allan
wrapped up the points around the 35 minute mark when good
work from Bews on the right was cut accross the face of the
goal to see the prolific midfielder get goal number 16 of
the season.
Overall a
good working performance from the whole team against a
sticky 2nd Division team.

10/05/06 v's Kemnay Youth (Barclay Cook
Cup Final - Keith Park)
Kemnay Youth 2 - Postal ALC 4
At the
third time of asking Postal finally got a victory against
Kemany Youth to clinch the Barclay Cook Cup for the second
successive season.
Postal
had a brilliant start to the match when, after only 5
minutes, a corner was sent in to the box to find the
prolific left back
Thomson waiting
at the back post to prod home the opener.
With the
country side's goalkeeper kicking long and long throw ins,
Postal were struggling to get out of their own half but were
defending well until another long throw into the box from
the Kemnay number 10 was failed to be cleared by B.Patterson
and the header from the Kemnay number 8 looped over keeper
Smith for the equaliser.
Half Time
- Kemnay Yth 1 - Postal ALC 1
Having
weathered the first half Postal again had a great start.
With
Monday nights exersions possibly taking it's toll on a
tiring Kemnay, Postal took the lead again when a corner into
the box saw
B.Patterson making up
for the Kemnay goal by firing a header into the net.
Two cup finals, two goals from the tall midfielder.
Turbine
then scored two goals in quick succession to basically kill
the game. The second was a particularly impressive
move and the big chap showed once again in this game what a
great season he is having.
Kemnay
did pull one back with around 20 minutes to go after
confusion by Scally and Gall saw the ball bounce in behind
the Postal defence and the Kemnay player had a great finish
to send the ball over keeper Smith's head, but the game, as
a contest, was already dead by this point.
Overall a
great win and another cup in the cabinet for the Postal.
Lets hope this now triggers a wee run to promotion in the 5
League games they have left.

06/05/06 v's Portlethen Utd (At Woodside in
League)
Postal ALC 2 - Portlethen Utd 3
Slack
defending saw Postal lose this home league game against an
organised and commiteed Portlethen side.
Postal
started well and had most of the play but it was Portlethen
who opened the scoring when the unchallenged Portlethen
number 9 ran into the Postal box and fired in a shot which
could only be paried by Smith. The Postal defence
failed to react quickly enough and the other Portlethen
striker had an easy header into the Postal goal.
Although
Postal continued to press on they could not get the required
equaliser before the break.
Half Time
- Postal ALC 0 - Portlethen Utd 1
Postal
started the second half brightly and were rewarded when a
cross ball from right to left in the Portlethen box was
directed into the Portlethen goal by their own number 4
Letissier.
The
deadlock was short lived though, after a back header from
Postal's G.Patterson fell short which saw an easy finish for
the on running Portlethen striker.
Postal
pushed Portlethen back and it was very much one way traffic
at this point. They were rewarded with around 10
minutes left when Andy Allan headed home.
At this
point there only looked to be one team who was going to win
the game but as per the FC Hayloft match 2 weeks ago
Postal's over eagerness to get the winner saw them leave
themselves open at the back and with only minutes left on
the clock Portlethen snatched the victory and more
importantly all 3 points from Postal.
Overall a
defeat which could now see Postal, Cammachmore and Bervy on
the same points with 5 games to go if the other two sides
win their games in hand. As Fergy would
say........"It's twitchy bum time".

03/05/06 v's Nicolls XL (At Woodside in
League)
Postal ALC 0 - Nicolls XL 1
An
offside goal, poor referee timekeeping, missed chances,
great away keeper performance and poor Quality Postal play
were the story of this game.
Postal
once again started the match with only 11 fit players, S.
Anderson dropped out due to flu and was replaced by C.Bews.
Two tough
games in a week looked to have taken it's toll on Postal who
looked jaded in the first half with Nicolls winning most of
the 50/50 challenges.
Postal
did have two cracking chances in the first half though
whichs saw a Bews header and then a Turbine shot saved by
veteran goal keeper Morrison who, incidentally, had a great
game for the visitors.
Half Time
- Postal ALC 0 - Nicolls XL 0
Postal
were slightly better in the 2nd half but the quality of
previous performances just wasn't there and the decision to
play Allan on the left side of midfield with Turbine in the
hole must be questioned.
Chances
were had by both teams in the second half in what was a poor
spectacle for the supporters of both sides with Keith
missing and B.Patterson heading over the bar.
Nicolls
broke the deadlock around the hour mark when a Postal corner
was cleared upfield to the clearly offside Nicolls striker.
Unfortunately at this level the referees sometimes cant
quite make it out of the Nicolls half, the official failed
to blow and the striker raced in on goal with no challenge
to take all 3 points for Nicolls.
Postal
avoided further embarresment when a last gasp challenge from
C.Patterson was judged by the official to be a penalty.
Again the portly man in black was nowhere near play as the
decision was made and must surely have the best eye-sight in
the league to continually be given games to officiate over.
Luckily the striker blasted straight at A. Smith to save the
centre back's blushes.
With the
home side thinking there was still at least 5 minutes on the
clock, the referee blew the final whistle. Perhaps a
new watch is needed for his next birthday.
Overall
even taking acount of the dubious decisions, lack of bodies
and saves this was a very poor day at the office for Postal
who can clearly play far better than this. Roll on
Saturday.

01/05/06 v's Bervy Caley (At Gourdon in
League)
Bervy Caley 1 - Postal ALC 2
Two goals
within as many minutes and some dogged defending were enough
to give Postal all 3 points against a tough Bervy Caley side
away at Gourdon.
With
Westwood having to sit this one out due to injury
captain Gall returned to his usual berth in midfield.
On a hard
pitch and wet conditions Postal were immediately put under
pressure by what must be the fittest team Postal have played
all season.
With a
roaming R. Fotheringham on the Bervy right, Stevy (Sands)
Anderson was having to almost play as a left back as Postal
struggled to get out of their own half.
Having
weathered the initial storm the first half was fairly even
when Postal had a great chance to take the lead. A mix
up in the Bervy defence saw W.Keith and then D.Gall have
chances to score but instead had to settle for a corner.
With the
game looking to be level at Halft Time, Bervy broke the
deadlock. Some slack marking in midfield saw the ball
arrive at a Bervy midfielder who's long range shot somehow
managed to squirm under the body of Postal keeper Smith.
Half Time
- Bervy Caley 1 - Postal ALC 0
The
second half saw Bervy tear Postal apart in the first 10
minutes, as one ginger player was quoted "It was like the Alamo out
there".
Number 7 for Bervy was running the show at this stage and it
says something about the Postal performance that they did
not capitulate.
There was
no way Bervy could keep up the same pace and mid way through
the half it was Postal's turn to celebrate.
A through
ball up the Postal right hand side was knocked into the path
of B. Patterson who, from at least 25 yards out, sent a
looping shot over the head of the Bervy keeper.
This
seemed to knock Bervy out of their stride at it was only
minutes later when a corner kick on the Postal left was
cleared by Bervy only into the path of Macmillan who again
caught the keeper off his line to fire home a long range
effort.
The
remainder of the game saw some good football from both teams
and more importantly for Postal some great defending as the
home side surged forward.
Overall a
terrific win for a ravaged Postal side against what are
surely the best team Postal have played from div 2 this
season and who are pushing them hard at the top of the
league.
29/04/06 v's Sportsmans Club (At Balgownie
in Barclay Cook Cup)
Postal ALC 5 - Sportsmans Club 3
As they
did at the same Semi Final venue last year Postal were
victorious in reaching the Barclay Cook Cup Final.
With a
strong wind blowing, captain W.Keith decided to play against
the wind in the first half, a decision which proved to be
crucial.
With
Gall, Ure, Mackie, G.Patterson, Scally and Bews all missing
Postal started with a different formation of 3-4-1-2.
This, along with the wind, saw a nervy first half
performance from Postal which saw the Sportsmans side go in
2-0 up at the break.
The first
goal saw a ball coming into the Postal box from the R.H.S,
confusion between the Postal goalie Smith and his defence
saw the Sportsmans number 9 (easily their best player of the
day) sneak in behind Thomson to direct his header at goal,
the ball was paried back into the six yard box and a
sleeping C.Patterson saw his man (Sportsmans number 10) nip
in in front of him to poke the ball into the net.
The
second goal was a carbon copy with the header from the
number 9 this time coming off the post before Patterson's
man (Sportsmans number 8) hit home on the goal line.
Half Time - Postal 0 -
Sportsmans Club 2
Strong
words at half time saw a much imporoved Postal performance
in the second period.
The
second half was only 2 minutes old when W.Keith won his team
a vital penalty by getting hacked down just inside the box.
Andy Allan confidently took hold of the ball and blasted it
straight down the middle to give Postal some hope.
The wind
was now at Postal's back and the ageing Sportsmans side were
struggling to get out of their own half as Postal pushed for
the equaliser.
Allan got
his 2nd and Postal's equaliser when a through ball on the
right was smashed home from around 18 yds out, over the
Sportsmans keepers head and into the top left hand corner.
With the
bit between their teeth Postal soon took the lead, a corner
into the box saw left back Thomson head a looping header
over the keeper for his 5th goal of the season.
Disaster
struck soon after though when confusion between C.Patterson
and Wood gave the Sportsmans number 9 the chance to run
straight down the Postal right onto the keeper and slot home
the equaliser.
As they
have done all season, the fitter Postal side continued
attacking and a great cross on the right from the hard
working Turbine saw hat trick hero Allan bullet a header
past the Sportsmans keeper.
With
Sportsmans now sending their centre half up front Postal
defended well with great work in the middle of the park from
B.Patterson and M.Westwood against the experienced
Sportsmans centre midfielders.
Postal
wrapped up the game in the final minute when B.Patterson saw
a shot from around 20 yds out sneak in under the Sportsmans
keepers body at his right hand side post.
Overall a
superb second half performance from a Postal side who could
have quite easily went into their shell after being 2-0
down.
26/04/06 v's FC Hayloft (Away, League)
FC Hayloft 2 - Postal ALC 1
Postal
were mugged at Shedocksley last night in a game which saw
the home side have approximately 4 attacks and score with
two of them.
Postal,
with Anderson coming in for the holidaying Bews, started
well and had all the attacking play in the first half
without managing to convert. The Hayloft team were
obviously quite happy to play for a draw as their keeper
managed to waste 10 minutes every time the ball went out for
a bye kick, a fact the referee (who had a very poor game)
managed to ignore the whole night.
The
deadlock was broken, though, within the first 10 minutes of
the second half when a long throw from Macmillan was knocked
into the path of Left back Thomson who fired the ball home
for his 4th goal of the season.
Postal
were looking comfortable at this point and there only looked
like one team likely to score next.
Against
the run of play, though, it was the Shedocksley side who got
the equaliser when a free kick was awarded on the left hand
side of the Postal 18 yd box and the Hayloft player picked
his spot in the Postage Stamp of Keith's goal.
Postal
then pushed everyone fwd to get the winner with Hayloft
again sitting in. Their tactics worked a treat as they
soaked up the pressure and with only 3 minutes remaining
broke up their right hand side and fired home from long
range to beat the defence and goalkeeper at his bottom left
hand post.
To their
credit Postal didn't give up and pushed hard till the final
whistle but it was too little too late.
Overall,
this would have been thought of as a decent performance from
Postal had they walked away with even a one nil win but the
fact they got beat must be put down to poor final balls,
finishing and lacks in concentration from the defence and
goal keeper.
The
holders started off well and dominated the first half.
Chances fell to Bews, Turbine and Patterson but could not
find the net past an inspired Glendale keeper.
It was
Glendale, though, who broke the deadlock when the Glendale
left midfielder lost his marker at a corner and found the
back of the Postal net with a drive from the left hand side.
Half Time
- Postal 0 Glendale 1.
Postal
didn't panic though and a solid second half performance saw
the Posties march through to the Semis.
Ure again
showed his value to the team when he broke through on the
right and drove home from long range to equalise.
Chris
Bews made it two soon after a great through ball from Allan
saw the diminutive striker slot home at the keepers left
hand side.
The game
was petering out when Bews killed the tie. A cross
from the left from left back Thompson saw Bews head home at
the back post.
Overall a
good performance and most importantly a chance for another
Barclay Cook Cup Final.

They
unfortunately could not hold on to the lead and found
themselves 2-1 down after defensive errors.
Postal
showed the spirit they have been showing all season and
veteran Scally bulleted home a header in the last minute to

League)
Postal ALC 4 - Aboyne 3
Postal
welcomed back Stevy Ure, Andy Allan, Davy Gall and Graham
Scally.
The first
half saw Postal dominate proceedings with good performances
from Macmillan, Gall and Patterson in the midfield.
Postal
were still dominating when a corner into their box was not
dealt with and Aboyne duly converted with little resistance.
If going
1 - 0 down was not insulting enough after the pressure
Postal had put on Aboyne, to add insult to injury, Postal
gifted another goal around 30 minutes to go 2 - 0 down.
Scally
tried a cheeky wee dummy from his half way line which saw
the Aboyne fwd convert with a good finish.
Thankfully Postal never changed their game plan and before
half time were 3 - 2 up. A long throw into the box saw
Ure convert at the back post, Bews then pulled it back to
2-2, 5 minutes later when another cross into the box saw
Scally lay in into the strikers path to do what he does
best. A few minutes later Ure gave the Posties the
lead with a great strike after another ball into the box
from Macmillan.
Half Time
Score Postal 3 Aboyne 2
Postal
started off confidently and had a couple of good chances but
it was Aboyne who levelled when a long ball was not dealt
with and a great finish from the Aboyne fwd saw Smith with
no chance.
Luckily
this Postal side don't seem to know when to lay down this
season and an absolutely superb bit of individual skill by
Turbine saw the Postal striker take all 3 points for Postal
ALC.
A nervy
last 15 saw Postal defend valiantly to take a well earned
win into next week.
Overall a
good win for Postal after a bad Wednesday and a tough
midweek ahead.
Well done

12/03/06 v's Maryculter (Home,
League)
Postal ALC 1 - Maryculter 3
A
decimated Postal squad welcomed back C.Patterson and
M.Westwood for their first starts of the season after
lengthy injuries.
Postal
playing with 7 regulars missing started poorly. On a
pitch which would have been perfect for Rugby seen
Maryculter go 2 up within the first 20 minutes. The
Postal Defence and midfield must take the blame for both
goals as opposed to great play from the opposition.
Postal
got one back just before half time with a nice goal from an
injury hampered Turbine.
The
second half was mostly even but the game was decided inside
the first 10 minutes when the Postal defence dealt with a
cross into the box poorly and Maryculter ensured they took
all three points with a good finish.
Overall a
very poor display from Postal but understandable under the
circumstances. Good displays from Postals Smith and
Wood were a bright point on a dissapointing night.
A Gritty
performance from Postal seen them take all 3 points away to
Stonehaven.
Postal
played with a changed defence and midfield due to the
departure of G.Patterson to Norway and D.Wood and A. Allan
working. Scally, Macmillan and Anderson were worthy
replacements.
The first
half hour saw Postal being dominated by a Stonehaven team
who obviously were more used to, what must be, one of the
biggest pitches in the division. Stonehaven took
advantage of their dominance and scored the first goal after
a long ball into the box was failed to be cleared and the
Stoney fwd lashed the ball into the net at the back post.
This
spurred Postal into life and a cracking cross from Steve
Anderson saw B. Patterson thunder a header in for his first
goal of the season. Half Time - 1-1.
Mackie
was replaced with M Westwood after a heavy challenge within
the first 10 minutes, which aggrivated an injury from the
Rothie game, and Postal took the league immediately with a
great run from Gall resulting in him being "taken out" in
the box with Bews slotting home the resulting penalty.
A great
long range effort from right midfielder Steve Ure sealed the
game within 5 minutes of the penalty and after a Stonehaven
player was sent off for a kick at Martin Thompson the points
were never in any danger.
W. Keith
came on for Turbine with 10 to go and duly slotted home the
fourth after good work from Bews on the left. Great
effort from the big chap.
Overall a
good performance against a gritty Stonehaven team on a large
pitch.

Postal
returned to winning ways in this crucial league match
against the country side. Postal started with the same
team as had played against Sportsmans in a show of faith
from the manager.
In a
fairly even first half Turbine had a good chance from close
range but blazed over. Rothie had a good chance to
open the scoring after slack play in the Postal defence but
the striker put his effort wide.
Postal
took the lead on 50 minutes when Turbine fired past the
keeper after a flowing move. However, from a long
through ball keeper Smith was beaten from a speculative
effort from the Rothie stiker.
This
spurred the Posties on and they moved ahead 5 minutes later
when Ure headed home a great ball from Allan. Postal
were on fire and made it 3 when Bews notched. Further
goals were added by Thomson and Bews before Rothie pulled
one back following slack marking in the Posties defence.

unsavoury end to the match saw Scally red carded and Smith
make a great save from a penalty.

Postal ALC 1 - 4 Sportsmans Club
Postal
were defeated in the leauge for the first time in many
months in what was a terrible day for the home side.
The same team started as played against Nicols but the
performance was rank rotten. Four very cheap goals
were conceded and although Postal enjoyed a lot of
possession and played some nice football, little was created
by way of chances.
Sportmans
team has an average weight which is close to Postals average
age and there is no way they should be winning games.
The players who start on Saturday must have a very better
attitude to ensure the team gets back to winning ways.

25/02/06 v's Nicols XI (Away, League)
Nicols XI 0 - 3 Postal ALC
Postal
kicked off this tricky league match in heavy conditions at
Balgownie. Anderson made way for Bews in the starting
line up in the only change from the win against St Laurence.
An even
first 20 saw the game ebb and flow from end to end, with the
pitch making it difficult to play passing football.
However the visitors drew first blood on the half hour mark.
A good move down the Postal right saw the ball crossed my
Mackie and Bews
turned past the veteran Nicols keeper. Postal were
against the wind in this half but the Nicols team did little
to trouble Smith in the Postal goal.
Postal
were then denied a stone wall penalty. Good play from
Gall and Mackie saw Turbine move into the box and he was
blatantly brought down. The ref was not in a good
position and did not give the obvious spot kick.
Postal
did go 2 ahead before the half though. Another ball into the
Nicols box from the right was turned in by Nicols
Lidgertwood for an OG. The game was 0 - 2 at half
time.
Postal
kicked off the second half with the wind behind them but did
not get going at all. Nicols dominated the game and
pressed hard for the goal to get them into the game.
However, their only chance of note saw the ball come back
off the post for the Postal defence to clear. In
between times, Bews and Turbine had chances to finish the
game but failed to convert.
It was
left to substitute
Anderson to tie up
the points. A crazy throw out by the Nicols keeper
fell at 'Sands' feet and he drilled home from 15 yards.
Another
good away 3 points for the Posties but the second half
performance will worry the management team.

11/02/06 v's St Laurence (Away, League)
St Laurence 2 - 3 Postal ALC
Anderson
came in up front in the only change to the previous week as
Postal tried to get back to winning ways against St Laurence
on Saturday. With much precipitation and wind, St
Laurence kicked off on a muddy surface.
Postal
took the game to the visitors from the start. Playing
some good football from middle to front, the away side took
an early lead after 15 mins played. In yet another
good piece of flowing football, Wood delivered a quality
cross that was expertly put away by the chunky striker
Turbine.
Postal
were in control at this stage but some inexplicable
defending allowed the Saints back into the game only 5
minutes later. A hopeful ball down the left saw the
midfielder square for the stiker to fire home.
However,
Postal were back in the lead after 30 minutes. A
period of sustained pressure saw the ball fall to Allan
and the indie-kid midfielder fired a control shot past the
helpless Saints keeper. Postal shot themselves in the
foot again though, when a drive from the lanky midfielder
was parrid by Smith in the Postal goal and fell to the
onrushing stiker to draw level.
G.
Patterson squandered a great chance when he headed over from
a corner and Mackie found himself through on goal with just
the keeper to beat but fired against the stopper. The
first half finished 2 - 2.
Postal
continued to pressurise the home defence throughout the
second half. The defence looked far more solid and the
midfield were controlling the game. Bews, Keith
and Scally came off the bench as Postal pushed for the
winner. With only 3 minutes remaining the breakthrough
came. Keith's effort was cleared off the line and fell
to Bews
who turned his man on a six-pence and lifted over the keeper
from 6 yards. With the game coming to a close Postal
could have made it 4 but Bews rounded the keeper only to
fire into the side netting.
A great 3
points for Postal but the defensive errors must be
eradicated to ease the tension on the sidelines.

04/02/05 v's Cowie Thistle (Away, AFC
Trophy)
Cowie Thistle 5 - 1 Postal ALC
A revisd
Postal side saw B. Patterson come into the team for this
tough cup clash against higher league opposition.
Postal
started well and were knocking the ball around assuredly
from middle to front. Although creating little by way
of chances they kept the home side at bay and were looking
to open the scoring.
However,
on the 30 minute mark Cowie made the breakthrough. The
Cowie midfielder was allowed to chip into the left back area
and an unfortunate slip by Thomson allowed the cross which
led to a tap in from close in. This spurred
Postal into action and they could have scored when Turbine,
stung by pre-match critisicm, made a great run and was
unlucky to see his lobbed effort go wide of the sticks.
Cowie made it 2 with 5 minutes of the first half remaining.
A great angled strike from 15 yards gave Posties keeper
Smith no chance. Against the run of play, the half
ended 2 - 0.
Postal
were hit with a killer blow on the hour mark. Good
play down the left wing resulted in an effort which came off
Smith with the resultant cross being turned in. Postal
rallied and pulled a goal back with 15 mins left when a
corner was met by
Steve Ure
to bullet home. Postal took on Anderson, Scally and
Keith and were looking to take the game to the visitors.
However, 2 late sucker punches were dealt and the game ended
5 - 1.
The
Postal management will be disturbed at the ease with which
Cowie were able to score. However, on the plus side
there were a number of good passages of play in the first
half which must be built upon.

28/01/05 v's Lads Club Ams (Away, Barclay
Cook Cup)
Lads Club 1 - 1 Postal ALC (Postal win 4 -2 on Pens)
Postal
kicked off the defence of their trophy in muddy conditions
at Hazlehead. The management kept faith in the team
that had defeated Bankhead a fortnight ago.
An even
first 20 minutes saw both teams enjoy periods of possession
with Postal playing the more attractive football. The
first talking point came on the half hour mark when Ure
found himself clean through on goal with just the keeper to
beat. Lads Club keeper Dean was equal to Ure's effort
though and pulled off a decent stop. Ure had another
chance to open the scoring but his long range effort was
dealt with by the keeper. The first half ended 0 - 0.
The start
of the second half saw Postal take the lead with a well
worked goal that shows the training ground work is paying
off. Good work from Mackie and Gall saw the ball moved
to Allan who played a lovely pass left to Steve Anderson
to hammer home from 10 yards. Postal then fell out of
the game for a while as Lads Club took control. It was
Postal who had the next chance though, when Ure met a
Turbine cross but headed weakly into the keepers arms.
Lads Club levelled on 80 minutes with a good goal from 16
yards out, giving Smith no chance. Smith then pulled
off a great save with 1 minute remaining to take the game to
extra time.
With both
teams tiring on the heavy pitch, extra time came and went
with little by way of incident. The lottery of
penalties saw Thomson, Bews, Turbine and Allan score for Postal
with Mackie missing with a very ordinary effort.
Luckily for the midfielder, Smith pulled off a great save
and one Lads Club penalty was put over the bar giving the
cup holders a place in the net round.
Postal
will be happy to be in the draw but will be looking for an
improved performane in next weeks match.
Team:
Smith, Wood, Thomson,
G. Patterson, Anderson, Allan, Ure, Mackie, Gall,
Bews, Turbine. Subs: B. Patterson, Keith
Postal
kicked off the league fixture shooting down the slope in
good conditions on Saturday. Changes to the team saw
Anderson come in for Scally and Smith in goals for the
holidaying Keith.
Postal
started sluggishly and were finding it difficult to find a
rhythm against a tenacious Bankhead midfield. However,
Postal took the lead after 20 minutes with a well worked
goal. Some excellent work deep in his own half from
Anderson lead to him releasing local boy Allan
who beat the offside trap and stroked the ball past the
onrushing keeper. This spurred Postal to life and they made
it 2 on the half hour mark. Mackie
received a ball down the right from Ure and he showed great
perseverance to beat both keeper and defender to slot home.
Now
controlling the game and taking advantage of the slope, a
defensive mix up allowed Postal to score the 3rd before the
half time whistle. The Bankhead keeper failed to react
to a passback and
Allan
lobbed him from 20 yeards with some aplomb.
Postal
started the 2nd half in sluggish mood. However, having
been penned in with the home side making good use of the
slope, Postal notched the crucial 4th. Some excellent
play down the right resulted in mackie crossing for Bews
to score from close range. This seemed to be the start
of a slowdown in Postals efforts and Bankhead were allowed
to come into the game. Patterson and Woods failed to
deal with a long kick out and the Bankhead striker took
advantage with an angled effort from 18 yards. Smith
made a couple of fine saves but was beaten once more when
the Bakhead striker slotted home from an offside position to
make the score more respectible for the home side.
Overall
it's another good 3 points for Postal as they resume league
action, but there must be concern around the apparent lack
of fitness going into the 2nd half of games.

Postal
made the long trip South on Saturday for their Scottish Cup
replay against Glasgow opposition. After a late pitch
inspection, Rutherglen kicked off in frosty underfoot
conditions. Allan, Gall and Bews came into the side.
An even
first 25 saw little pattern to the play as both teams got
used to the pitch. However, Postal came close on the
half hour mark when a great dig from the industrious Ure
came back off the bar. Rutherglen responded when slack
defensive play saw the strikers shot hit the post.
Postal
took the lead on 35 minutes with a great goal. Good
work down the Postal right saw Turbine put in a pinpoint
cross which was superbly headed home by diminutive striker
Bews.
The quality of the this goal was surpassed though, when some
flowing football from middle to front resulted in Mackie
digging out another cross which Bews met again, heading home
from 8 yards. The score stayed at 2 until the break.
A
miserable second half for Postal saw Rutherglen taking the
game to the away team. Postal conceeded a very soft
goal from a corner when the Rutherglen midfielder was
allowed a free header. A tiring Postal then
conceded a second when more slack marking allowed the Glen
midfielder to fire home from 10 yards.
Postal
were struggling to get forward at this stage and the
inevitable happened when the ball was given away cheaply in
the midfield and the ball was played right for the Glen
striker to finish. Although clearly offside, the goal
was allowed to stand.
A brief
spell of pressure from Postal came to nothing and it's the
Glasgow side who progress.
Postal
are back to league business next week and will surely be
working to improve fitness levels before then.
Team:
Keith, Wood, Thomson,
G. Patterson, Scally, Allan, Ure, Mackie, Gall,
Bews, Turbine. Subs: Smith, B. Patterson, Anderson.
Postal
kicked off this Scottish Cup tie on a rain soacked pitch at
Woodside on Saturday. Two changes from the team that started
against Gairloch saw Scally and B. Patterson come into the
side.
Postal
started well and took the game to the visitors early on.
Both teams were struggling to come to terms with the skiddy
pitch, but Postal went ahead after 15 minutes. Steve 'sands' Anderson
found himself with time in the box and he made no mistake
with an effort which beat the keeper low to his left.
This
spurred the Glasgow team to life and they enjoyed the
greater share of position from then on. Some poor
passing from Postal contributed to this and a nervy period
ended with the Rutherglen midfielder firing home from 14
yards.
Postal's
inability to play their normal passing game continued into
the second half. A scrappy game saw little by way of
clear cut chances but Rutherglen went ahead on the hour mark
after good work on the Posal right back area led to a simple
tap in for the Rutherglen striker.
Allan and
Bews came on as Postal tried to save the game. The
equaliser came on 80 minutes. G. Patterson came out
from the back and slid the ball to Bews whose cross was
fired home by chunky striker Turbine.
Postal
looked the more likely team to win it but the game finished
a draw.
The
replay in Glasgow will be a tough tie for the Posties and
manager Patterson will be looking for a great improvement
from his players.
Team:
Keith, Wood, Thomson,
G. Patterson, Scally, Wilson, Ure, Mackie, B. Patterson,
Anderson, Turbine. Subs: Smith, Bews, Allan.
Postal
kicked off this Scottish Cup tie at a windy Woodside on
Saturday. The only change to the line up from the win
against Marculter saw Wilson come in for B. Patterson.
Postal
took the game to the visitors from the off and stamped their
authority on the game, creating a number of good chances.
Gall, Mackie and Allan were running the show in midfield but
the pressure could not be converted into goals.
Gairloch
were dangerous on the break and they had a good chance to go
ahead after 30 mins. The Highlanders striker turned
well in the box and only a fine save from Postal keeper
Keith denied the goal. From this, Postal were spurred
to life. A long kick out from Keith was flicked into
the path of Wilson
and the midfielder calmly slotted past the onrushing keeper.
It was 2
just before the break when good work on the left saw Turbine
netting from close range.
The
Gairloch side received a boost after 50 minutes when M.
Thomson was penalised for handball in the box. The
resultant penalty was converted and it was 2 - 1.
Postal
were in control though, and it was 3 when Turbine
turned in for his second.
It was then Mackie's
turn to get on the scoresheet when he curled a great effort
past the keeper from 20 yards after some good set up play
from Postal. Now dominating the game, chunky striker
Turbine
completed his hat-trick when his speculative effort squirmed
in under the keepers body. Mackie
added his second and Postal's 6th with another fine effort
from the 18yard line.
This was
a good win for Postal who will be looking for another home
tie when Walter Smith pulls the names out of the hat on
Tuesday.
Postal
got back to winning ways on Saturday but it was tough going
against a battling Maryculter side. Manager Patterson
made changes from the Millburn game with Wood, Allan and
Anderson all getting a run in the starting 11.
From the
off Maryculter came at Postal using the wind and slope
advantage on what was a heavy pitch. Slack play from
G. Patterson saw the Maryculter hitman squander the games
first real chance when Wood cleaned up from 15 yards.
Postal then had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock
when Mackie was clean through on the keeper only to sclaff
his effort wide of the post.
This gave
the home team heart and after a foul on the edge of the box
was taken quickly, Ure switched off to allow his man to
coast in from the right and tuck the ball away.
From the
kick-off in the 2nd half, Postal took the game to Maryculter.
Turbine was causing problems up front but missed a great
opportunity to put Postal level when he hit the post from 7
yards. However, Postal did score when a corner from
Allan on the left was turned in by the Marculter number 9.
Postal
took the lead on the 70 minute mark when a speculative
effort from Turbine
squirmed past the keeper low to his left. The away
side were now coasting and Ure
tapped home from another corner.
The 4th
goal came from good play on the Postal left and Ure
poked past the keeper to notch a brace.
This was
a good display from Postal against a team who will surely
take more points than they will loss over the remainder of
the season.

22/10/05 v's Millburn (Away, North of
Scotland Cup)
Millburn 5 - 0 Postal ALC
Division
1 Millburn kicked off this cup clash in windy conditions at
Balmedie. Manager C. Patterson stayed with the same
team who had defeated Aboyne last week.
An even
opening period saw the game flow from one end to the other
and Millburn created the first chance when their striker
broke clear from the half way line, but saw his shot rebound
off the post for Scally to clear. However, Millburn
did get the opener after 40 minutes when a slack pass from
Gall saw the ball break to the Postal left where a deflected
cross flew over the helpless Keith in goal.
Postal
had a gilt-edged chance almost immediately when great work
from Mackie saw Bews with only the keeper to beat from 4
yards. The strikers effort was blazed over the bar
though and the game stayed at 1 - 0 at the turnaround.
A
nightmare second half for Postal saw Millburn run them
ragged with both wingers creating problems. The second
goal came after 50 minutes when the Millburn right winger
went past Scally and squared for the centre to score.
Further goals were added with the left winger from Millburn
notching 2 and a give away from a corner completing the
rout. Postal had no answer, with a Turbine effort the
only point worth noting for the visitors.
Albeit
against higher league opposition, the was an inept display
from Postal. The manager will no doubt be considering
what can be done to shake things up after such a poor
display.
Team: Keith, G. Thomson,
Scally,
G. Patterson, Gall, B. Patterson, Ure, Mackie, Wilson, Bews,
Turbine. Subs: Smith, Allan Wood, M. Thomson.
The
Posties made the trip to Aboyne, knowing that victory would
see them move to top of the league. However, the home team
have started the season well and were only 2 positions below
Postal at start of play. Manager C. Patterson kept
faith with the team that started v's Sportsmans, the only
change being Scally in for the holidaying Thomson.
Aboyne
kicked off on what is a 'carpet' of a pitch. However,
Postal were first on the attack and were playing some neat
football in the early stages. They were delivered a
scare on 20 minutes though when failure to deal with a
throw-in led to the Aboyne stiker bearing down on Keith in
goal. The opporunity was lost when Keith saved and
Scally put off the onrushing striker at the rebound.
This
spurred Postal into life a they scored a great openner on
the half hour mark. Some sweet football on the left by
Wilson and Bews, ended with a cross which gave Ure
the easiest of tap ins.
Postal
were playing some super football and the lead should have
been doubled 5 minutes before the break when Bews found
himself 2 yards out with an open goal. However, the
diminutive striker couldn't get anything on the ball to
force it over the line.
Postal
made it 2 nil early in the second half. Some good play
down the left resulted in a cross which was turned in by the
Aboyne defender with Postal strikers looming.
This
seemed to have a negative effect on Postal and they lost
grip on the midfield area with the defence being forced
back. Aboyne started to heap pressure on the away
defence and the got back in the game with 25 minutes
remaining. Some good play from the chunky Aboyne
striker saw him go past G. Patterson in the box. The
usually composed defender then had a rush of blood which saw
him pull back the striker, who scored from the resultant
penalty.
Postal
brought on Allan, Brennan and Wood as they tried to see the
game out. With 5 minutes remaining Aboyne should have
scored the equaliser when Keith parried a free-kick but the
Aboyne forward pushed past the post from 2 yards.
Another
win for Postal and they will be looking forward to locking
horns with the other top teams as the league moves towards
the half-way stage.

01/10/05 v's Sportsmans Club (Away,
League)
Sportsmans Club 0 - 8 Postal ALC
Postal kicked off in blustery conditions
at Hazlehead.
Right from the start, Postal took the game to the home side
and Bews should have done better after a poor defensive
header from the Sportsmans Centre-back.
However, the goal avalanche began after 25
minutes. A hopeful ball from G. Thomson at right back
was completely mis-judged by the keeper and Turbine was on
hand to lash into an empty net. Bews then made it 2
after he made space for himself by turning the Sportsmans
full-back inside out before firing low into the bottom
right.
Postal were now controlling the game and
some neat build up saw Wilson finish off the move after a
clever run in the inside right position. Gall made it
4 after a fine run from midfield was rewarded as Mackie's
pinpoint ball allowed Gall to squeeze past the onrushing
keeper.
Keith then made an important save from
Barclay as Gall and G. Thomson got in each others way in the
box. Normal order was resumed before the half when a
weak free-kick from M. Thomson went through the wall to make
it 5.
Postal made 3 subs immediately after the
break with Anderson, Wood and Scally coming on for B.
Patterson, G. Thomson and Wilson.
After only 5 mintues of the second half,
Postal made it 6. A good cross from Ure on the right
was met by the head of Turbine to turn it past the keeper.
Postal completed a resounding victory with
a headed Scally goal and a Bews (voted Man of the Match)
tap-in for 8.
Postal will be delighted with the win
which takes them to the top of the table. Having
scored 8 and obtained a clean sheet, manager Patterson must
be happy with the way things have gone so far.

24/09/05 v's Portlethen United (Away,
League)
Portlethen United 2 - 6 Postal ALC
Postal kicked off this away game with the
same starting line up as the Cammachmore game.
However, it was anything but plain sailing for Postal as
Portlethen went on the attack from the off. Howver,
after some poor play from both teams in the openning 20
minutes, Postal took the lead.
A free-kick from M. Thomson was parried by the goalie and G.
Patterson reacted quickest, with his effort on goal going in
off a defender.
Postal were still playing well within
themselves and the half ended with only 1 goal on the
scoresheet.
Straight from the kick-off Portlethen came
at Postal. The home side earned a free-kick at the
edge of the Postal box and midfielder 'Bunny' scored past
Keith with a fine effort. This spurred Postal
into life and the lead was restored on 55 mins when Mackie
received a threaded pass from Wilson to steer past the
onrushing keeper.
Postal conceded a very cheap goal to let
Portlethen back into the game. The ball found it's way
to the back post from a corner and danger man Cummings
scored, high into the roof of the net.
Once again, Postal reacted well and Allan
scored from close range to make it 3 - 2. At this
stage in the game, Postal started to dominate.
Further goals were added from Wilson and substitute Toole.
Man of the match Allan then scored a
clever lob from 20 yards to round off the victory.
The result somewhat flattered Postal
though and the players will have to play far better against
Sportsmans to achieve a favourable result on Saturday.
Postal kicked off this league match at
Woodside in good conditions for football. Changes were
made after last weeks disappointing showing and Bews &
Turbine started up front with Alan Mackie coming into the
centre of midfield with Ure making way.
After an even first 20 minutes, Postal
made the breakthrough with a well worked goal.
M. Thomson put in the good ball from the left side and wing
wizard Allan was there to head home.
Postal built on this by scoring a further
2 before the break. First up was Turbine who converted a
decent cross with a cheeky Lee Sharpe style back flick into
the net. Bews then made it 3 when his own good work
was rewarded by slipping the ball past the keeper low to the
front post.
Postal were now in command and the lead
was extended 5 minutes into the second half. After efforts
from Turbine and Mackie, the ball broke to Allan who lobbed
home from 20 yards. Allan was playing well and deserved his
brace.
Wilson, Allan, Mackie, Gall and B.
Patterson were now dominating the middle of the park and
Postal had good chances to score, only being thwarted by an
in form Cammach keeper. Mackie got his reward though,
when he made it 5 after a good burst through the middle.
Postal brought on Ure, Toole and Anderson
and it was Anderson's cross that was met well by Toole to
make it 6.
With the game in it's latter stages, goal
keeper Keith saw the red mist after a challenge from the
Cammach Centre, but Patterson was on hand to calm the fiery
red-headed goalie.
All in all a good afternoon for the Postal
and manager C. Patterson will surely be pleased.
Defence looked good and the clean-sheet will give G.
Thomson, M. Thomson, G. Patterson and Keith confidence. MOTM
went to Dave Gall for the second week running.
Team: Keith, G. Thomson, M. Thomson,
G. Patterson, Gall, B. Patterson, Allan, Mackie, Wilson,
Bews, Turbine. Subs: Smith, Anderson, Toole, Ure
Postal suffered their first defeat of the
season at Bogpeth Park in Kemnay on Saturday. Keith
retained his place in goals, with Ure and Wilson coming in
on the wide midfield position.
Postal started poorly and indecision from
G. Patterson almost allowed the Kemnay left midfielder in
for a goal, but the shot was pulled wide. Postal then
came more into the game and Brennan had a great chance to
open the scoring. A cross from the left was met by the
diminutive striker but his header was straight at the
keeper. An even first have ended with the score nil nil.
Kemnay made the breakthrough after 15
minutes. B Patterson missed an easy header in midfield
and the ball went for a corner. From the kick, Postal
failed to clear and after Ure mis-hit his clearance, the
Kemnay player slotted home.
The home side went 2 up with 15 mins left.
A long ball from the back was not dealt with by G. Thomson
and, with Keith rushing off his line, the Kemnay striker
lobbed into the net.
Turbine and Mackie came on to salvage the
game. Postal did get a goal back from an OG but it was
too little too late.
Man of the match went to Gall but this
would be scant consolation after a poor performance from the
entire team.
Team: Keith, G. Thomson, M. Thomson,
G.Patterson, Gall, B. Patterson, Allan, Ure, Wilson,
Brennan, Anderson. Subs: Banks, Bowyer, Mackie,
Turbine, Smith
Postal continued their recent run of form
on a poor pitch at Inverdee.
The team was weakened through absences
with no fewer than 6 players missing due to the Scotland
game. This allowed debuts for flame-haired striker
Brennan and Postal stalwart Dale. Keith started in goals.
Glendale started the better of the 2 teams
though and scored after 20 minutes.
Postal struck back though as Anderson,
making his first start of the season, levelled. A Bews
effort rebounded off the cross-bar and Anderson was in the
right place to fire home. The stale-mate continued
until the end of the half.
After 10 minutes of the second, Brennan
was replaced by Bowyer, another debutant. Following
this, Postal took the lead. Coming more into the game, a
good passage of play resulted in Anderson being on hand once
more to notch his brace.
Postal never looked comfortable in defence
though and Glendale equalised. A stick on offside
claim was waved away and the Glendale player scored.
Postal pressed from there on in and
veteran Scally popped up with only 2 minutes left to seal
the points.
MOTM: Bews.
Team: Keith, G. Thomson, M Thomson,
Dale, Gall, Allen, Patterson, Anderson Scally, Bews,
Brennan. Subs: Bowyer, Banks.
27/08/05 v's FC Hayloft
Postal ALC 6 - 1 FC Hayloft (Home)
Another good day at the office for Postal as the unbeaten run continued at Woodside.
The only change from the midweek win was Mackie coming in for Ure at the right side of midfield.
Postal started well and were playing some great attacking football, with good passing all over the park. Turbine had an early chance to open the scoring but the chunky stikers volley was lacking in technique.
Having had almost all of the possession, Postal were stunned when on 25 minutes Hayloft openned the scoring. After losing the ball in the middle of the park a long punt should have been dealt with by keeper Smith but his uncertainty at coming of his line was punished when no. 9 stole in to score.
Postal stuck to their football and came back into things with an excellent effort from Allen. The 'bearded assassin' strode forward from the right of midfield and fired an un-stoppable effort into the bottom left.
After getting level, Postal took the game to the visitors and went ahead when Turbine unleashed a screamer from 20 yards that went in off the inside of the right post.
Bews got off the mark to make it 3 - 1 at half-time.
Postal started where they left off in the second half and Bews was on target again to make it 4 - 1. At this stage Postal were cruising and it was a matter of time before more goals came. Gall and Patterson were controlling the middle of the park and the defence were neat and tidy. Bews made it 5 when his intelligent run saw him nip the ball from the keeper to seal a great hat-trick.
Wilson, Keith and G. Thomson came on and Wilson was on target with a good header from an M. Thomson free-kick to make it 6.
MOTM: B. Patterson.
Team: Smith, Wood, M Thomson, Patterson, Gall, Allen, Patterson, Mackie, Scally, Bews, Turbine. Subs: Wilson, Keith, Anderson, G Thompson.
24/08/05 v's Lads Club Ams (Home)
Postal ALC 3 - 0 Lads Club Ams
Postal kicked off this League 2 game against an opposition buoyed by their first win of the season at the weekend. Scally came in for Wilson at left midfield and Allen came in to the middle of the part in place of Toole.
Lads Club started well with the wind and sun at their backs. However, Postal weathered the storm well and struck after 30 minutes to make it 1 - 0. Good work on the right from Turbine resulted in him being fouled in the box. The big striker stroked home the resultant penalty low past the keeper.
Lads Club were still pressing and forced a number of free kicks and corners. Scally was shown yellow by a referee who gave little to the home side throughout.
Postal then came into the game and made it 2 with a well worked move. Bews found Gall who had made a great run down the right and his cross was tucked away expertly by Allen.
Postal made it 3 after 5 minutes of the second half. Gall passed inside for Allen and his deep cross was headed back across the keeper into the net by Bews.
The defence and goalkeeper held solid for the remainder of the 90 and Postal secured their first win of the season.
Having not played as well as in the first 2 games, the manager will surely be pleased to have registered the first win against some well-known faces.
Team: Smith, Wood, M Thomson, Patterson, Gall, Allen, Patterson, Ure, Scally, Bews, Turbine. Subs: Wilson, Keith, Mackie, Anderson, G Thompson.
13/08/05 v's Bankhead (Home)
Postal ALC 2 - 2 Bankhead
Postal kicked off their first home game of the season looking to build upon the credible draw against Rothie. The starting 11 included a place for Toole, with Turbine taking over in midfield from an injured Allen.
After an even first 10 minutes, Postal came into the game and had a number of chances. However, as in the Rothie game the chances were not converted as Bankhead started to come into the game. Chances came and went for both strikers before the deadlock was broken on 40 minutes when good work down the right hand side was finshed by a Wilson tap in.
Unfortunately, the defence was caught out before the break. Wilson gave away a cheap free kick on the left wing and the ball was swung in deep. Patterson failed to win the header and the ball skidded into the net off Wood.
The second half was a more even affair with Bankhead starting to come into things in the midfield. However, Postal still had by far the majority of the chances as Toole, Bews and Ure failed to convert good opportunities.
Bankhead scored with a sucker-punch 15 minutes from time. The Bankhead forward went in hard on goal-keeper Smith and followed up on the second ball to square for the on-rushing midfielder to finish. Postal claimed for a foul on the keeper but the referee gave the goal.
Looking dead and buried, Anderson ad Keith were brought on. Keith missed a good oppourtunity from a Gall free-kick but redeemed himself by setting up the equaliser. His threaded pass beat the offside trap and Ure steadied himself to slip past the keeper.
Postal kicked off the new season in good conditions at Rothienorman.
The home side kicked off playing down the slope and Postal were on the rack for the first 10 minutes as the home side used their tangental advantage.
Rothie scored after 15 minutes. A throw-in from the left wing was only half cleared and the Rothie number 8 scored a great goal with a right foot volley into the top corner, with keeper Smee stranded.
Postal responded well and took the game to Rothie. Turbine had a great chance to equalise when he found himself 1 on 1 with the keeper. However, his shot was straight at the stopper the the chance was gone. Postal continued in this vein and were unlucky to turn around behind.
Postal continued where they left off and Bews missed from 3 yrds out when he chipped over the bar. His persistance was rewarded though, when Andy Allen's shot came back off the bar and Bews headed home to equalise.
Postal were looking comfortable at the back and with the midfield dominating it seemed only a matter of time before the winner came. However, the goal never came and Postal had to settle for a point.
