19/05/07 - Postal ALC V Feughside
(League at Westfield)
Postal ALC 0 - Feughside 1
Postal finished season 2006/2007 with a whimper
after defeat at home to bottom of the league
Feughside. Postal had a full squad to choose
from and welcomed back veteran Scally after a full
season on the sidelines. Gall, Wood and Mackie
also returned to the team.
Postal
started well and dominated the play in the early
proceedings but failed to convert any of the chances
which fell to Mackie, Bews and McDonald.
As in
the legue cup game between the two sides Feughside
took advantage of some poor defending to score
against the run of play. Postal midfielder
Patterson was too easily beaten in midfield by a
Feughside player who, to his credit, then skelped a
long range shot into the net from distance.
Scally
replaced left back Thomson, after the defender had
to go off injured.
Postal
continued pressing after the goal but failed to
create mny more chances.
Half Time 0 - 1
The second half saw
Postal replace Combe and Anderson with Stockton and
Allan. Again, Postal had most of the pocession
in the second half but, to be honest, never really
looked like scoring. This was highlighted
further when Allan broke into the Feughside box.
With only the keeper to beat and with all the time
in the world, the midfielder shot tamely against the
keeper's body.
Bar the
odd set piece the game and the season finished
quietly. Feughside defended well without
really troubling Postal keeper Smith and Postal had
most of the pocession without really looking in the
mood.
Full time - Postal ALC 0
- Feughside 1.
Overall,
a typical end of season game with both sides having
nothing really to play for. Postal finished
the season in 6th place and although could have done
better can be reasonalby satisfied with a steady
first season in the 1st Division.
Postal travelled to Tarves on a wet Monday night
with a much depleted squad. Manager Patterson
played his second successive game in defence along
with Combe and trialist Forrestor.
Craig
Pirie played up front for the missing Bews and Allan
made his comeback from injury.
Postal
started the game playing up the hill. This
gave the home side a great deal of pocession and
Postal were struggling to get out. It was
Postal who took the lead though when a great through
ball from Allan found McDonald who had a
clear run through on goal and slotted home
confidently.
Postal
were still looking shaky in defence though and it a
better team may have punished them. Thankfully
Postal got a second through midfielder
B.Patterson. A hopefull ball into the box
was won well by Pirie. Patterson then kept the
ball up and away from Tarves net before scooping it
high over the Tarves keeper and into the net.
Tarves
scored a deserved goal when more slack play from
Postal saw a cross come over unchallenged from the
Postal left where a Tarves midfielder was left
unmarked to shoot past keeper Smith.
Ure
was working hard in a centre midfield position and
his hardworking was rewarded with a "Beckamesque"
goal from just inside the half way line just before
half time. He cleverly looked up, seen the
Tarves keeper off his line and chipped him expertly
to give Postal a two goal cushion.
Half Time 1 - 3
Postal hoped to dominate
the second halft but it just never happended.
Within the first five minutes, trialist Forrestor
was replaced after breaking his nose. With
Martin Thomson on the bench but not fully fit,
Postal legend Willy Hay came on up front. Five
minutes later Postal conceeded a particularly soft
goal.
A
seemingly simple through ball into the Postal box
was failed to be cleared by the defence or keeper
and was easily stroked home by the Tarves forward.
Postal now really struggled to keep their shape and
were left defending for the most part of the
remaining 30 minutes.
Full time Tarves 2
- Postal ALC 3.
Overall,
not a great performance from Postal but with so many
bodies missing a good away win.
14/04/07 - Torry United V Postal ALC
(League at Inverdee)
Torry United 0 - Postal ALC 4
Postal faced the in form Torry United straight from
their Semi final defeat from Ratterys. On a
sweltering day Postal took the lead when superb play
by Bews on the right fought through some tough
tackles to cross for Ure who headed into the
net with Postals and the games first attack on
2min. Torry were shaken and Postal continued to
attack with Allan, Ure and Bews all having efforts
well saved from the Torry United Keeper. Torry to
their credit came back into the game and had a
couple of chances and could have scored where it
not for the excellent defence and quality of keeping
showed by Smith again commanding his goal with
confidence. Allan suffering from an ankle injury
was replaced after 20 min to allow skipper Dave Gall
to come into the midfield. Postal then began
dominating procedings with the strong running Ure
especially impressive. Postal doubled their lead on
40 min when Patterson won the ball in midfield,
passed to Turbine who controlled the ball
with ease and shot into the top right hand corner
from fully 30 yards. Turbine then ran over to his
girlfriend watching on the side lines and planted a
huge kiss on her cheek.
Half Time 0 - 2
Fully deserving their
lead Postal where instructed to start strong in the
second half, the lads did not let the management
team down. A long ball from Mackie was dropped by
the unlucky Torry keeper and Bews was able to
walk the ball over the line. With Postal 3 nil up
and never looking like losing a goal the lads went
on to make it 4 when Patterson played a through ball
to Neil "Bunny" McDonald who lobbed the goal
keeper with his right foot. Neil worked extremely
hard all day even managing to win header after
header so fully deserved his goal. After the fourth
Postal seemed to take their foot off the pedal with
Bews, Patterson, Mackie and Turbine all missing one
on ones with the Torry United goalkeeper who had a
superb game. With 15 minutes left Fred was
introduced to the play and immediately had a header
flying for the top right corner. Luckily Smee was
able to save well and provent an OG!!! Torry then
took control as Postal eased off and the last 10
minutes called on the impressive Smee and defence in
front of him to enable Postal to claim their second cleen
sheet in a row.
Full time Torry United 0
- Postal ALC 4.
Overall,
in a hard fought game Postal proved to much for
Torry with the defence, Ure, McDonald, Turnbine and
Bews singled out for praise along with keeper Smith
who made some fine saves.
07/04/07 - Newtonhill V Postal ALC
(League at Newtonhill)
Newtonhill 0 - Postal ALC 3
Postal
kicked off against the vastly experienced Newtonhill with
skipper
for the day Dave Wood opting to go up the slope first half.
The game
had an extremely slow start with neither team making much
headway due to
the long ball route employed by Newtonhill. Newtonhill then
took
control in midfield with brute force, winning every first
ball in a
fashion WWF star Hulk Hogan would have been proud of. This
led to
numerous half chances for the host's. With the referee
content with
letting the grappling match flow Postal soon wised up and
gave as good
as they got. Alan Mackie in the DMC role was particularly
impressive in
sweeping up any danger. In the 32nd min a stinging drive
from Ure
forced the Newtonhill number one into an impressive save,
from the
numerous corners with ensued Patterson had a header cleared
off the
line. Postal were now holding their own and in the 39th min
a long ball
from defence was chested down by Chris Turbine who shook off
his man and
lobbed the keeper from 24 Yards. From a Newtonhill corner
cleared by
the commanding Smith the grappling took a new dimension as
Patterson was
seen trying to convert a "Boston Crab" on the Newtonhill
number 4.
There was no tap out and the game continued.
Half Time 0 - 1
The second half started much like the first with Newtonhill
starting
extremely well. Having pushed out from a corner the ball
was fired
across goal by Patterson's man only for Newtonhill's number
9 to miss
from 9 yards out. On a better day the veteran striker could
have had a
hat trick but for his lack of shooting boots as Newtonhill
missed a
number of chances from close range. Postal to their credit
defended
extremely well and began to take control of the game. Andy
Allan had to
come off with an injured ankle replaced by Scotty. After
Newtonhill hit
the post and the bar this seemed to spur Postal's talismatic
strike
force into action. A cross from Ure seen Turbine convert a
Mark Hughes
like overhead kick into the far right corner. At two nil
the postal
defence then shut-up shop and with 5 min left Turbine went
on a mazy
run, with a couple of step over's and a one two with the
hard working
Bews, Turbine was through in goal and finished into the left
hand corner
with his left peg.
Overall, Postal didn't play at all near their potential but
showed a strong will
to fight and win which has to be commended. The defence of
McMillan,
Wood and Thompson was particularly impressive having to deal
with tricky
opponents.
31/03/07 - Postal ALC V Newmachar (League
at Westfield)
Postal ALC 6 - Newmachar 3
Postal produced one of their best
performances of the season in this Div 1 North game to get
their first win in 2007.
Having already played the visitors
in a hard fought game out at Newmachar, Postal expected a
tough afternoon from the experienced side.
With Combe missing B.Patterson came
back into the team as did Macmillan at right back.
Postal had the perfect start when
they took the lead in 30 seconds. A good ball down the
Postal left from Thomson saw a cross from Bews being struck
home from striker Turbine for his 17th of the season.
Postal were looking very sharp at
this point and were creating chance after chance especially
through the impressive Bews who looked as good in this game
as he has all season.
As has so often happened this year
though Postal shot themselves in the foot around the 15min
mark when a seemingly inoxious high crossed ball somehow
looped over the head of Postal keeper Smith to level the
scores against the run of play.
Thankfully this didn't seem to put
Postal off their stride and they scored two more before the
half. The first came from Bews when he
intelligently snuck in at the back post from a cross from
the Postal right, controlled the ball and struck it home.
The second came when a through ball
from the midfield saw Patterson straight through on
the keeper. The midfielder had a long run-in on the
keeper and did well to keep his composure to slot home low
to the left.
A great free kick from Allan which
unluckily came off the bar and a one on one with the
Newmachar keeper from Turbine could have sealed this game
but instead Postal went in level pegging after a crazy last
5 minutes saw them concede two goals. One, a long
range effort which again looped over keeper Smith should
have been charged down earlier and the second a cross into
the box which was not cleared and fell to an unmarked
Newmachar player at the back post to knock home.
HALF TIME - Postal ALC 3 -
Newmachar 3
If the first half was one sided the
second half was even more so. Postal dominated from
the start and looked to have sorted out the problems at the
back.
They again scored within a minute
of the restart when good work from Allan and Macmillan
on the Postal right saw the full back strike home low
underneath the keepers body from around 20 yards out.
Postal then proceeded to create
more chances with Bews and Ure both having one-on-ones with
the keeper before Patterson made it 5-3 when the
keeper lost pocession deep within his own half and Patterson
rolled the ball home from around 35 yards out shouting "get
in ye bitch" as it rolled agonisingly over the line.
New Postal player Fred Stockton
made it 6 with only minutes to play when a ball across the
face of the away sides 6 yard area left the Orcadian with
the simplest of tap ins.
Overall a well desrved victory
against an experienced side with some ex-junior players.
This is hopefully the springboard Postal need to have a good
second half to the season after a dissapointing start to
2007.
10/03/07 - Postal ALC V Glendale (League
at Westfield)
Postal ALC 1 - Glendale 2
Postal hosted the 2nd top of the
league in this game which was slightly spoiled by a strong
wind which meant that the side playing up the slope
struggled to clear their lines.
Postal made changes to the side
which went down to Nicolls with Macmillan coming in for Ure
and Mackie coming in for Anderson.
Postal were playing with the wind
in the first half and Glendale were rarely seen outside
their own half. The conditions were really dictating
how far the away side could kick the ball but Postal were
struggling to convert their pressure into goals.
Postal were playing some nice
football but the final ball into the box was extremely poor
all day and chances were few and far between.
A good Allan volley direct from the
Glendale keepers kick out was one of few Postal shots on
goal despite camping in the opposition half.
They finally got a well deserved
goal with 5 minutes of the half remaining when a cross into
the box was controlled well by Turbine who, in one
move, seemed to drag the ball back from the defender and
fire into the left hand corner of the net for his 16th of
the season.
HALF TIME - Postal ALC 1 - Glendale
0
It was obviously going to be a
different game in the second half due to the wind but in
fairness Postal seemed to be handling it better than
Glendale had and continued trying to attack at every
opportunity.
Disaster struck early doors though
when some poor midfield tracking back on the Postal right
saw some more shabby defending out wide which allowed the
cross to come into the Postal box where the unmarked
Glendale player levelled the game without a Postal player in
sight.
This gave Glendale the desire to
drive on and Postal were looking more rattled while still
trying to keep the ball down and chase the game.
Postal sold the game around 25
minutes into the half when a crazy clearance from Postal
keeper Smith sent the ball straight into his defence just
outside his box. A short passback from captain Gall
was then sent into the path of the onrushing Glendale
striker who cooly rounded Smith to get the ultimate winner
of the game.
Postal tried their best to get a
second but it never looked likely and the Glendale defence
held firm.
Overall a hard loss to take given
the amount of pocession Postal had but with 1/2 the league
season still to play and given the two close games with the
top and second top of the league in the previous two games
Postal can go into the second half of the league campaign
with some optimism.
17/02/07 - Postal ALC V Nicolls Amateurs (League
at Westfield)
Postal ALC 0 - Nicolls 1
Postal had a much depleted squad
for this game at Westfield against top of the table Nicolls
Amateurs.
Wood (injury), Mackie (suspended)
and Macmillan (sickness) were all missing with Thomson,
McDdonald and Anderson coming in as replacements.
As expected the side at the top of
the league started the game strongly and forced 2 corners in
the opening minutes.
Postal began to come more into the
game though and the remaining 35 minutes saw a fairly
even and open game.
A good move from Postal on the
right hand side saw a Bews shot hit the post but it wasn't
to be for the striker.
Nicolls also had some pressure and
forced a further 3 corners without actually troubling keeper
Smith.
HALF TIME - Postal ALC 0 - Nicolls
0
The second half saw Postal struggle
to get out of their own half for long periods in the game
and there was very little being created by the home side as
the Nicolls midfield began to dominate.
Some solid defending though from
Patterson, Thomson and Combe saw very little clear cut
chances for Nicolls.
Nicolls broke the deadlock 20
minutes into the second half when a good break by the
Nicolls left midfielder saw Ure chase back. An
untimely slip by Ure though let the midfielder in on goal
and he confidently shot home under the body of keeper Smith.
Postal huffed and puffed for the
rest of the half but never looked like causing the Nicolls
defence any real trouble.
Overall Postal's passing and
ability to keep hold of the ball will concern the management
but there was not too much between the sides and with more
than half the league games still to be played Postal
must surely believe they can rebuild their promotion
challenge.
03/02/07 - Banchory V Postal ALC(North of
Scotland at Banchory)
Banchory 3 - Postal ALC 2
A much improved Postal display was
not enough to stop them going out of the North of Scotland
Cup at the weekend.
After a poor display the weekend
before, Postal welcomed back Combe, Bews and Macmillan.
Both sides started the game
strongly and the pace was at a high tempo from the kick off.
Postal had the first clear cut chance when Bews was sent
clear on the Banchory left. His shot beat the keeper
but came off the cross bar and was cleared by the relieved
Banchory defence.
A great save by keeper Smith kept
the scores equal when a close range shot by the Banchory
number 7 was pushed over the bar.
Banchory were beginning to push
Postal back at this point and they took the lead around the
half hour mark. A cross into the Postal box was weakly
cleared by the Postal defence straight to the Banchory
number 7 who scored a good long range effort into Smith's
Right hand corner.
To their credit Postal fought back
and a great individual effort by Ure on the 40 minute
mark sent the Posties in at 1 -1. Banchory had been
playing very square at the back and when Ure saw a gap open
up just inside the Banchory half he ran through unchallenged
and slotted the ball away.
HALF TIME - Banchory 1 - Postal ALC
1
The first ten minutes were pretty
even, with Banchory possibly just edging Postal on pocession.
Postal shot themselves in the foot though in a crazy 5
minute spell where a lack of concentration cost them 2 goals
and ultimately the match.
The first came when a relatively
simple high ball in the Postal box on the Postal right hand
side was not dealt with. Keeper Smith then ran out of
his goal to collect the ball but was nowhere near when the
Banchory forward slotted the ball home.
Minutes later Banchory scored the
third when Postal fell asleep at a crossed ball and the
Banchory forward stuck the ball away.
The encouraging thing about this
game was how Postal reacted. The management must
surely be happy at the battling display Postal showed to
claw their way back into the game. They hassled and
harried Banchory in the hope of getting one back which they
did with 10 to go, when Mackie forced his way through a ruck
of players in the Banchory box to poke home to give the
Postal some hope.
When trying to get the ball back
from the Banchory goal Andy Allan took a punch to the mouth
and the Banchory defender was sent off.
Unfortunately Postal couldn't get
the third although Turbine, Bews and Combe all came close.
Overall a dissapointing defensive 5
minutes sold the game although if they perform like this
every week Postal will surely win more than they lose.
27/01/07 - Postal ALC V Ferryhill (League
at Westfield)
Postal ALC 1 - Ferryhill 3
Postal welcomed back Allan Mackie
and Dave Wood for this game.
The first half was fairly even but
Postal probably shaded it in terms of football being played
and pocession and the away side had very few chances.
The Ferryhill goalkeeper was
struggling with his kicking which didn't help the away side
get out of their own half and going in to the second half it
looked as if Postal would continue to dominate.
Disaster struck though just before
half time when the Postal defence were sleeping on their
right hand side and a simple through ball saw the Ferryhill
left midfielder run straight through on keeper Smith and
finished clinically without a Postal player near him.
HALF TIME - Postal ALC
0 - Ferryhill 1
Since the turn of the year Postal have been looking poor in
the second half of games and this was to be no different.
The performance in the second half of this game was sadly
lacking.
Their plan of attack was not helped when, in the opening
minutes, midfielder Mackie, who had been booked in the first
half, was shown his second for aggressive behaviour and was
sent off. Harsh decision by a very poor referee?
Possibly, but Mackie can have no complaints and it was a
crazy situation to find himself in knowing he was carrying a
booking.
That said, Postal can not put all the blame on the sending
off as the defending for the second and third goals was as
bad as the first.
A lack of effort from the midfield to tackle back and a lack
of concentration and basic positional play from the back
line saw the two goals go in to kill the game.
Postal attempted to go two at the back to create some
chances but the Ferryhill defense never looked in any
bother.
The goal Postal did get came from another poor clearance
from the Ferryhill keeper who kicked it stratight off of
Turbine
and the ball cannoned off his chest and into the net.
Overall very dissapointing second half performance again and
surely a reaction to this defeat will be seen this weekend.
20/01/07 Westend v's Postal ALC (AFC
Trophy at Hazelhead Academy)
Westend 2 - Postal ALC 0
For only the second time in the
season Postal failed to convert any of the chances they had
in this game and it came back to bite them as Westend
clinically finished the few times they bothered Smith in
goal.
Postal started with Macmillan back
in at right back and B. Patterson in for the sick Combe at
Centre Half.
The first half was a fairly even
affair with both sides showing some good football and the
referee didn't have a lot to do in this game with the game
being played in good spirits.
Postal had a great chance to take
the lead spurned when Turbine raced in on the Westend goal
from the right hand side but blazed his effort over the bar.
Defender Patterson had a half
chance cleared off the line from a corner at the Westend
goal and it wasn't looking like Postal's lucky day.
With only 5 minutes remaining in
the half goalkeeper Smith (who had been looking confident in
everything he did in the first half) picked up, what looked
like, a blatant pass back from Thomson. Postal packed
the penalty box for the resultant free kick but with only
yards away from the goal line, the Westend forward tucked it
away in the top left hand corner to give Westend a one nil
lead.
HALF TIME - Westend 1 - Postal ALC
0
Postal started well in the second
half and saw chance after chance fail to hit the back of the
net. The Westend number 9 was causing a few anxious
moments on the counter attack but Postal were dominating
most of the play.
Patterson had another snap shot
blocked on the line.
Ure had a great shot from distance
just tipped over the bar by the Westend keeper.
Turbine had another clear run in on
the keeper after a good crossed ball from Macmillan but the
striker could only shoot over the bar again.
A good cross from the Postal right
was met by striker Bews but his header missed the target as
time ran out for Postal.
With 10 to go, Postal thought they
had equalised but the goal was dissallowed for a Turbine
hand ball.
Postal now had 3 up front and a
midfield packed mainly full of attackers but the ball just
would not go in for the equaliser. It was perhaps not
surprsing that the Westend number 9 sneaked the decider
minutes from time when a high ball was not dealt with
correctly by Macmillan who could only watch as the Westend
player nicked the ball from him and shot comfortably under
keeper Smith.
Overall while dissapointing to lose
the 3rd game in a row, this is a game which could honestly
have went either way and the performance was a good deal
better than the last two weeks. With Postal managing
to bring players back into the squad, the second half of the
season is looking optimistic.
06/01/07 Postal ALC v's Feughside (Stephen
Sheild
at Balgownie)
Postal ALC 3 - Feughside 5
Feughside came first footing at
Balgownie on Saturday. In a game which could have been
all over within 15 minutes, Postal somehow managed to gift
to Feughside with a defensive nightmare.
Postal started the game as well as
they have played all season with Neil McDonald causing the
Feughsiders constant problems down the left hand side and
the away team causing little in reply.
Ure was the first to go one on one
with the goaley but fired tamely into the keeper's body.
Next came a shot from Bews which went just wide.
Followed by a shot which came off of the inside of the
Feughside post to safety.
Postal took the lead around the 25
minute mark when a cross was fired home by left back
M.Thomson for his 3rd goal of the season.
With Feughside looking ragged
Postal went further ahead when great work down the left by
McDonald saw his through ball tucked away by Bews.
At this point it looked as if
Postal might run riot but a lack of concentration for a
crazy 5 minute spell let the away side back into the game.
With what seemed like minimal
danger to the home goal, central defender Combe made a
misguided decision to slide tackle in the box to give away a
clear penalty which the Feughside forward expertly tucked
away to give the away side some hope.
Almost direct from kick off another
crazy goal was gifted when an untracked run down the Postal
left was easily crossed over into the box without so much as
a hint of a challenge. Trying to kick the ball in mid
air, midfielder Allan missed the ball and without a marker
in sight the Feughside forward knocked the ball past keeper
Smith.
Bews managed though to
restore the Postal lead before going in at half time for his
second of the match.
Significantly for Postal Cameron
had to come off injured just before half time and the good
work being done by McDonald at the time on the left was lost
when he had to move into central midfield. Ryan Hunter
went up front for the Posties.
HALF TIME - Postal ALC 3 -
Feughside 2
Some of the Postal play was a dream
to watch in the first half but the second brought nothing
but nightmares.
Despite asking for a good fast
tempo, Postal couldn't get out of the blocks and were
constantly struggling to make it up to their half way line.
Feughside scored their deserved
equaliser through more slack defending soon into the half
when the Postal central defense were outjumped by the
Feughside number 10 and his flick on was fired home by an
unmarked number 8 at the back post.
At 3-3 it was now anybody's game
but Postal's Gall took a heavy knock around the half hour
mark and was now struggling badly.
With 10 to go, centre back Combe
came off injured. Not long after, with replacement
Patterson and defender Thomson up for a corner the resultant
clearance was picked up by the Feughside number 9 who
managed to outrun both Gall and Wood to slip the ball past
keeper Smith.
Feughside got the icing on the cake
just before the end of the game to make it 5 and a semi
final place assured.
Overall Postal will be glad to see
the back of the festive season. Admittedly some bad
luck with injuries going into and during the match, but this
should not excuse the defensive slackness, fitness and lack
of mental and physical will to win all over the park
particularly in the second half. Postal will be
thinking Saturday can not come soon enough to get his one
out of their system.
16/12/06 Postal ALC v's MS United (League
at Aulton)
Postal ALC 2 - MS United 3
A second half capitulation saw
Postal hand MS a late Xmas gift of 3 points.
Postal went into the game with only
9 players available, manager Patterson was forced to start
himself for the first time this season and old Postal hand
Barry Smith came out of retirement to help out the side.
With only 11 players Postal were forced into a strange
formation with Chris Turbine on the left of midfield and
Dave Wood on the Right hand side.
The first half was pretty even with
both sides having some chances.
Postal had a good chance straight
from kick off when Cameron saw his shot from wide left of
the MS box go just wide.
A great save from Postal keeper
Smith from a long range effort was touched just round the
Postal post. This was just one of a number of good
saves from the Postal keeper who had a solid performance.
Postal took the lead around the 35
minute mark when a superb long ball from Turbine on the left
saw Wood collecting on the right hand side of the MS box.
His shot came off the bar where the waiting Cameron
headed home.
HALF TIME - Postal ALC 1 - MS
United 0
Postal were poor second half with
MS winning most of the 50/50 balls and C.Patterson in
particular having a bad game in the centre of defence for
the home side. The performance of MS shouldn't be
dismissed though who looked a good bit hungrier to win in
most areas of the park.
The away side equalised with around
15 minutes into the second half when poor marking on the
Postal right hand side saw a shot come in which Postal Man
of the match Combe could only direct into his own net
for an O.G.
MS deservedly scored their second
not long after when the Postal defence were dreaming
thinking the ball had gone out of play. A good cross
into the box saw C.Patterson flat footed and his man scored
with his head without challenge. Real schoolboy stuff.
Postal now got sprung into life and
were at least now challenging.
With only 10 minutes left on the
clock it looked as if Postal were going to steal a point
when the game's 4th headed goal went in with a great
Combe header direct from a Postal corner.
It wasn't to be though and with
only minutes to go Postal gifted yet another headed goal.
Under seemingly no pressure on the Postal left Turbine
thought he had done enough to see the ball out of play but
the MS player managed to keep it in, get a cross into the
box where again the Postal centre defence were no where to
be seen and there were at least 3 MS players waiting to
score past the helpless Smith.
Overall a dissapointing 3 points to
lose and even with only 9 available players Postal should
still have put in a stronger challenge. All credit to
MS though who are surely in a false position near the foot
of the table. Thanks to Barry Smith who helped out on
the day and put in a credible performance at right back.
16/12/06 Bridge of Don V Postal ALC
(North of Scotland at Balgownie)
Bridge of Don 0 - Postal ALC 2
Postal progressed to the 4th round
of the North of Scotland Cup with a hard fough win against
local rivals Bridge of Don.
Postal made only one change to the
team which beat Sportsmans with Roddy Cameron moving into
the midfield replacing the holidaying Alan Mackie.
The first half wasn't the greatest
football spectacle ever seen but Postal probably shaded it
with the home side showing more huff and puff than good
football.
Postal had the ball in the net
midway through the half when the impressive Gall beat the
BOD offside trap to go one on one with the goalkeeper.
His resultant pass inside to Allan though was deemed offside
and Allan's goal was disallowed.
Postal rode their luck at times
though. Mistakes from both Patterson and Combe in the
first period saw half chances for the home side and a better
team would have punished Postal.
HALF TIME - BOD 0 - Postal ALC 0
The second half for Postal was a
lot better. Defensivly tighter and quicker on the
break there only ever looked like being one winner of this
game.
The deadlock was eventually broke
when the BOD offside trap was again sprung. McDonald
was let go down the left and going one on one with the
keeper had the fore thought to square to the unmarked
Bews to pass into the empty net.
Postal then changed formation
slightly with Cameron moving up front and Anderson coming on
to left mid. The second goal just wouldn't come though
with Sharp at the back for BOD particularly impressive.
Allan had a great effort from 25
yards out come off the BOD bar midway through the half in
what could have been one of the goals of the season.
Just as it looked as if the game
was going to end 0 -1. Postal again breached the
square BOD defence. This time it was Cameron to
go in on the goalkeeper and the forward kept his nerve to
sweep the ball home.
Overall Postal made hard work of
this game, but given the time of year and the festive spirit
a few of the boys were showing it was possibly a good day to
have a cup game. Nicolls this weekend will be a harder
game that's for sure.
09/12/06 Postal ALC v's Sportsmans Club
(North of Scotland
at Westfield)
Postal ALC 3 - Sportsmans Club 1
Postal progressed to the 3rd round
of the North of Scotland after defeating a Sportsmans side
who put in a lot of effort without really matching the home
side for skill or technique.
With goalkeeper Smith away for a
romantic weekend Postal drafted in ex Portlethen veteran Jim
Morrison with Thomson also making way for B.Patterson in
defence.
The home side started well and were
causing a lot of problems for the Div 2 side's defence.
Mackie and Allan were combining well on the right with Bews
looking particulary sharp in the opening period.
After a number of half chances
Postal took the lead around the 25 minute mark when good
work down the Postal left saw a trademark step inside the
defender from Bews who then calmly slotted home for
his first.
To their credit Sportsmans were
spurred on by this and started to work their way forward to
put the Postal defence under a bit of pressure. This,
combined with poor tracking back from the Postal midfield
gave the away side some hope going into half time.
HALF TIME - Postal 1 - Sportsmans 0
Having discussed at half time the
need to help the defence, the Postal midfield started the
second half a good bit sharper. The use of the ball
and pocession of the ball still seemed to be a problem for
the whole team though as Sportsmans continued to put
pressure on the home side.
Morrison in goal had two great
saves at 1-0 to keep the Posties ahead.
A change of formation was needed
around the 65 minute mark when Turgine, struggling with an
injury was replaced by Anderson. This allowed Allan to
move into his favoured centre mid bearth which paid
dividends almost immediately when a good through ball sprang
the away sides offside trap to allow Allan a
one-on-one with the Sportsmans keeper. He expertly
rounded the keeper to walk the ball into the empty net.
With the game looking to be tied up
now Postal again gave Sportsmans some hope when slack
defending at the back saw a cross from the left find the
unmarked Sportsmans fwd Adams who fired a good low
shot past Morrison.
Thankfully Postal responded
straight away when a through ball on the left to Bews
saw the forward get his second and Postal's 3rd with a great
chip from around 20 yards out.
Overall not the greatest game or
performance from Postal but some great goals and a very good
first 25 minutes to get them back to wining ways.

11/11/06 Postal ALC v's Newtonhill (League
at Westfield)
Postal ALC 3 - Newtonhill 3
A hard fought exciting game at
Westfield saw Postal surrender a two goal lead twice to come
away with a draw in this Div 1 League encounter.
Postal made only one change from
the week before with Chris Bews replacing Roddy Cameron up
front.
Postal started really well and were
one up within 10 minutes.
A hard driven ball across the goal
from the Postal right saw the goal keeper only parry the
ball into the path of Stevey Ure who knoced home for
his 5th goal of the season.
Postal were two up on the 20 minute
mark when a good free kick from Turbine on the Postal left
was met by left back Thomson at the back post and
kicked into the back of the net by the big man.
The hero turned villain though 10
minutes later when Ure was caught in pocession on the Postal
left, a good through ball saw the Newtonhill forward run
between Patterson and Thomson and the big left back conceded
a penalty which Newtonhill duly converted.
HALF TIME - Postal 2 - Newtonhill 1
If the first half was Postal's the
second was very much Newtonhills.
The away side came out with all
guns blazing and with Postal shooting against the wind they
were struggling to make an impact upfront or get their
passing game moving.
With only 10 minutes on the clock
in the second half disaster struck for Postal when Allan was
sent off for an off the ball kick at a Newtonhill midfielder
right in front of the referee. The incident actually
seen a free kick awarded to Postal on the edge of the box
and Turbine duly swerved one into the Top left hand
corner to make it 3 - 1.
Unfortunately with only 10 men
Postal never really bothered Newtonhill again which was
dissapointing considering the amount of pocession the first
half had given them.
It was backs to the wall stuff now
and it looked only a matter of time before Newtonhill got a
goal back. It finally came around 20 minutes into the
half when a cross into the box was not cleared and a shot
from close range went through the Postal keepers legs.
At this point the only thing
keeping Postal in the game was keeper Smith with two or
three great saves particularly one from a Newtonhill free
kick, but he could do nothing when another cross into the
box was headed out only into the path of the Newtonhill
player who fired in a great shot from the edge of the box.
Overall a very strange game.
Postal were very much on top in the first half and going two
goals up will be dissapointed to only draw, but given the
sending off so early in the second half they were breathing
a sigh of relief at the end to come away with a point.

05/11/06 v's Stoneywood SC (Association at
Lochside Park)
Stoneywood SC 4 - Postal ALC 0
Postal's participation in this
years Association cup ended in a 10 minute second half
onslaught by Premier Division Leaders Stoneywood, scoring 3
goals in quick succession to kill off the Postie's hopes.
Postal made 3 changes to the team
which played against Tarves. B. Patterson, R. Cameron
and R. Hunter replacing MacDonald, Macmillan and the injured
Combe.
Stoneywood were impressive from the
kick off and immediately put the Postal defence under
pressure. With strong runners on both flanks and an
experienced front two, Stoneywood had two or three good
chances in the first half an hour but fine saves from keeper
Smith kept Postal in the game.
Having weathered the storm, Postal
actually started to look more comfortable and looked to be
adapting to the quicker, sharper pace of Stoneywood.
Postal had two good chances towards
the end of the half when a shot from Steve Ure was blocked
by the Stoneywood defence and a Chris Turbine half chance
was not far away from the top corner of the Stoneywood goal.
HALF TIME - Stoneywood SC 0 -
Postal 0
The Postal management were hopeful
going into the second half after seeing the players come
more into the game but any hope was soon extinguished within
10 minutes.
A silly mistake by the previously
impressive Smith handed Stoneywood the opener but there was
very little the stopper could do as a lack of concentration
handed Stoneywood a further 2 goals to effectively kill the
game with 35 minutes left on the clock.
Having to now chase the game Postal
lost their shape and the 4th goal was almost inevitable.
To their credit, Postal never gave
in and battled on although without the quality of the first
45 minutes. Bews had a chance one-on-one with the
Stoneywood keeper but the stopper made an impressive save.
Overall, any defeat is always
dissapointing but the heart and commitment, especially in
the first half, was encouraging to the management team and
gave the players an idea as to how far we have to go to get
close to the top Premier sides.
16/10/06 v's Grampian Police (AFC Trophy at Westfield)
Postal ALC 9 - Grampian Police 0
Postal made only
one change going into the game with Roddy Cameron coming in
from the start.
With the Police only starting with
10 men Postal immediately went on the attack from the start
of the game and it was evident early on that there was only
ever going to be one winner of this match.
Having no game the week before
Postal were lacking that final ball but they finally broke
their duck around the 25 minute mark when a low cross into
the Police box from the Postal right hand side was swept
home by striker Cameron for his second goal of the
season.
The away side were really
struggling to get out of their own half and the second goal
came not long after when the on-form Turbine struck
his 10th goal of the season just before half time.
Half Time –
Postal ALC 2 – Grampian Police 0
Having discussed the need to work
on the final pass at half time Postal killed the game in the
first minute when captain Gall timed a great run into
the box and scored a great goal high to the Police goal
keepers right hand corner.
The goals started raining in now as
the Police defence disintegrated, so much so that the order
of them may be off in this report so we'll just describe
them.
Cameron scored his second
before moving into midfield when he cut in from the right
hand side and fired a long range shot low to the keepers
right.
Turbine scored his second
with a header and his third with a goal direct from a
corner with the Police keeper floundering.
Nei McDonald scored his
second goal in successive weeks to keep his good run going.
Midfielder Steve Ure scored
a great long range effort which flew by the Police keeper
from around 20 yards out.
Left back Martin Thomson
completed the scoring with a tap in, inside the Police box.
Overall a good game for Postal to
get after no game last week and allowed them to work off the
Rustyness which was appartent in the first half.
30/09/06 v's Trophies International
(Scottish Cup at Westfield)
Postal ALC 2 - Trophies International 1
Postal started
their first Scottish Cup game of the season with only one
change from the previous weeks victory. Steve Anderson
dropped out due to injury with Steve Ure replacing him in
midfield. Postal also welcomed back R. Cameron and B.
Patterson on the bench.
Postal started
the stronger of the two teams with most of the attacking
being done in the Trophies’ half of the pitch.
Allan was seeing
a lot of the ball in the first half and a strong run from
the midfielder saw him come into the box from the right and
fire a shot off the bar from close range.
Further chances
fell to Postal but it needed a good save from Postal keeper
Smith from a Trophies’ break-away to keep the scores equal.
Postal
eventually took a deserved lead when a good move down the
Postal right saw the ball sent low into the box for forward
McDonald to knock home for his first competitive
strike of the season.
Postal continued
to attack but Trophies held firm to go in only one down at
half time.
Half Time –
Postal ALC 1 – Trophies International 0
The need for
patience was discussed at half time and this was very much
needed with Postal continuing to press but failing to find
the back of the net.
A Chris Bews
header and another save from the Trophies keeper from an
Allan shot were two of the chances passed up.
Postal finally
got the break through in the second half when strong running
from the impressive Alan Mackie saw him one on one with the
Trophies goal keeper and managed to knock it home.
Good work from
Substitute Cameron saw him and fellow sub Combe one on one
with the keeper but they some how managed to put each other
off to see the shot go past the post.
An impressive
defensive performance from the midfield and defence was
tarnished slightly when a bit of slack play let the Trophies
number 10 waltz through unchallenged to round keeper Smith
for a consolation goal.
The expected
cavalry charge from the away team never came though and the
game petered out to send Postal into the 2nd
round.
A solid,
steady, performance from Postal saw them get the better of a
sticky MS United side at Woodside on Saturday.
For the
first time this season Postal were able to play the same
side as the week before which meant Ure, Wilson, Combe and
Hunter could only find spaces on the bench.
Postal
were warned that the game could be a tough encounter in the
midfield area but although the smaller pitch was making it
hard to get the ball wide the expected tough tackling never
happened.
With an
attacking midfiled and forward line it was the away side who
were doing more of the going forward with the older MS back
line struggling to get up to their half way line.
The first
chance fell to the strong running McDonald within 5 minutes
when a mix up in the MS defence saw him one on one with the
goalkeeper. He knocked the ball past the MS stopper
only to see it trickle by the keepers left hand post.
Playing
on the pitch that Postal had used last year, the neurtal
watching the game could have been forgiven for thinking that
Postal were the home side with MS doing little in the way of
attacking. Wave after wave of attack eventually saw
Postal take the lead around the 30 minute mark.
Some fine
midfield play saw a great through ball to McDonald on the
Postal right. His cross was met at the back post by
Chris Bews
who knocked the ball home with his head to give Postal a
deserved lead.
A bad
tackle on Anderson just before half time saw him replaced by
Neil Wilson.
Half Time
-
MS United 0 -
Postal ALC 1
As
expected, MS started the second half a lot better and were
forcing Postal back, but to their credit the Postal back
line were holding firm with Wood particularly impressive.
After
weathering the storm Postal got another goal slightly
against the run of play to know the stuffing out of MS.
A ball from the Postal left was eventually knocked home by
Andy Allan for the
midfielders 4th of the current campain.
At this
point Postal were looking more comfortable and some good
work on the Postal left saw a driven ball into the box
knoced into his own net by the MS defender.
A dubious
offside decision not given gave MS a later consilation but
it was never going to be their day.
Overall a
good hardworking performance by Postal against an
experienced 1st division side.
Another
decent performance from the 1st division new boys seen them
move into the next round of the 1st Div North League Cup.
Again
Posal had to make changes to the side which beat Potterton
with Patterson, Combe, Forrestor and Hunter dropping out for
Wood, Thomson, Anderson and Allan.
Postal
got off to a great start whithin the first 10 minutes when a
long throw from Macmillan on the right of the Tarves box was
swung across the goal by Andy Allan where Turbine
was waiting to push the ball home.
With a
pitch which was sloping towards the Postal goal in the first
half the Postal defence did well to deal with the long balls
Tarves were sending them. The away side were
struggling to keep pocession though and the Tarves side were
managing to play the offside trap well.
Half Time
-
Tarves 0 -
Postal ALC 1
Mackie
had been very impressive in the first half for Postal and
continued his good form in the second half with strong
running from the midfield.
Postal
killed the game early in the second half with another goal
from Turbine.
The big man has had a great start to the new season, playing
in a slightly deeper role.
A ball to
the back post again saw Allan pop up with an assist with a
headed ball back to the path of Turbine who sent it into the
back of the Tarves net for his second.
More
chances were made by Postal with headers from Turbine and
Ure but again Postal failed for the most part to spring the
Tarves offside trap.
Overall
another win for Postal with a lot of boys missing, the guys
coming in did well and are now putting genuine pressure on
for starting places.
Postal
continued their excellent start to Division 1 North by
beating a tough tackling Potterton side.
Changes
to the Kintore game saw Cameron and Wilson dropping out due
to work commitments with Hunter and Forrestor replacing
them.
Potterton
set their stall out early doors with two tough tackles
firstly on Macmillan then on Gall. Last season's
Postal side might have laid down at this point but this
years team are looking a bit more resilliant, at this early
stage of the season at least.
It was
very much equal midway through the half with Postal
struggling to get into their usual passing play but clinical
striking from, the on form, Bews
put the Posties into the lead. A through ball to the little
striker was taken round the goalkeeper and cooly slotted
home into the bottom right hand side corner where MacDonald
was lurking to try and knock it home himself.
Another
bad tackle towards the end of the half from Potterton saw
Forrestor struggle off the park but credit to the midfield
man for continuing the rest of the game.
Bews
put Postal 2 in front just before the break with a great
long range strike beating the keeper from around 20 yards
out.
Half Time
-
Postal ALC 2 Potterton 0
With only
10 minutes on the clock in the second half, Postal looked to
have sown up the game when Potterton tried to play the
offside trap but failed and the on-running Turbine
fired a great shot past the keeper unchallenged.
With the
Postal subs now warming up to come on, the game suddenly
turned on it's head when the away side managed to get one
back. Slackness had come into the Postal play and
every pass was now an effort to reach it's man.
If the
first goal had Postal worried, a second from, the now
encouraged, Potterton side sent them into panic stations and
bickering was setting in amongst the team.
Against
the run of play Postal scored with 15 to go through Bews.
With the away side pushing on looking for the equaliser a
through ball in behind the Potterton defence was met by the
wee striker who managed to lift the ball over the Potterton
keeper for his hat trick.
Credit
where it is due Potterton refused to lie down and scored a
third goal to make the last 5 minutes nervy for the Postal
sidelines. Luckily no more goals were let in and
Postal managed to take all 3 points.
Overall
not a great performance from Postal but certainly a battling
one especially when up against it in the last half hour
showing good character to take all 3 points against a very
physical Potterton side.
26/08/06 v's Kintore (Association Cup at
Westfield)
Postal ALC 3 - Kintore 0
Postal
continued their recent good run with another win at Home to
Kintore. In a match very much dominated by the home
side, the only thing missing from the performance was the
Postal shooting which at best was slack and at worse woeful.
With Andy
Allan, Dave Wood and Mike Forrestor missing, Roddy Cameron,
Duncan Macmillan and Alan Mackie returned to the first 11.
Postal
started well and were immediately making chances. Bews
thought he had broke the deadlock at the back post but it
was ruled to be offside (a tactic Kintore would use all
afternoon).
It wasn't
long before Bews
was rewarded though, and the wee man did well to lock onto a
short headed backpass to cooly slot home to make it one nil.
Cameron
thought he had got the second when he managed to round the
keeper but the Postal bench were celebrating too early when
they saw the ball go out for a bye kick.
Half Time
-
Postal ALC 1 Kintore 0
The
second half saw an onslaught on the Kintore goal as the away
defence seemed to tire.
Postal
created 9 one on ones with the goaley but the ball just
wouldn't go in the back of the net with chances falling to
Cameron, Bews, MacDonald, Wilson and Turbine.
Cameron
managed to break his Postal duck mid way through the half
though and will surely set the big man on his way to many
more in the red and black.
The third
and killer goal to the game came from Turbine
when a long throw from Macmillan was met by the big striker
to head home for his third in three games.
Overall a
very impressive performance and another clean sheet for
Postal. Work will be needed at training on Wednesday
though to improve their shooting.
Postal
kicked off their home campaign in impressive form with the
only change being made from Saturdays game being Macmillan
dropping to the bench with captain Gall coming back into the
side.
The last
time Postal dominated a game so much was last season against
Hayloft in a game they lost 2 -1 so credit to team for
keeping another clean sheet when the goals were failing to
go in.
Postal
started well and were using the width of the larger park to
their advantage. Forrestor was creating havoc on the
left and Wilson was creating problems on the right flank.
Postal's
first chance came to striker MacDonald when good work from
Forrestor on the left sent in a low cross but the Portlethen
striker couldn't put the ball away.
Postal
then scored one of 4 offside goals on the night when Bews
tucked home a deep cross at the back post. Bucksburn used an
impressive offside trap all night although on one or two
occasions the ref called it wrong by penalising Postal.
The
Bucksburn number 7 was quick up front for the opposition but
two half chances were all Bucksburn were given by the Postal
defence in the first half. Postal continued to press
but the goal never came in the first half.
Half Time
-
Postal ALC 0 Bucksburn United 0
The need
to continue playing football and not to panic was discussed
at half time and Postal took the advice.
Wave
after wave of attack continued on the Bucksburn goal and the
home side did well to keep their patience.
Defender
Combe was replaced due to injury by Macmillan and MacDonald
gave way to Cameron as Postal tried to freshen up the attack
but still the ball wouldn't go in the net.
With 20
minutes remaining Mackie came on for the hard working
Turbine.
Postal
were eventually rewarded for their endeavours when a cross
from the left was not cleared by the Bucksburn defence, and
a scramble around the 6 yard area saw Gall poke the
ball home for what was to be the eventual winner.
Postal
had the ball in the net a futher 3 times (but ruled offside)
and missed a sitter from Wilson with only the keeper to
beat.
Overall a
great display from Postal but need to start killing teams
off earlier.
Postal
got back to winning ways after the dissapointment of Monday
nights result with a hard fought game against Frigate in the
baking sunshine of Woodside.
Due to
injuries and other commitments Ure, Gall and Cameron were
missing from the team with Smith, Wilson and MacDonald
replacing them.
The first
half saw Postal concede a slack goal early on. With
Patterson, Combe, Macmillan and Wood playing together in a
back four for the first time Postal didn't look comfortable
and poor pressing from the defence and midfield saw the
Frigate forward produce a great curving strike unchallenged
into Smiths left hand side bottom corner from 20 yards out.
The young
Frigate side were more than holding their own at this point
although they didn't create many more chances in the first
half.
Postal
changed the formation slightly, moving Patterson into
midfield which made them look more solid in the middle of
the park. Chances fell to Wilson, MacDonald and
Turbine but Postal couldn't convert and went off the park at
half time one down.
Half Time
-
Frigate 1 - Postal ALC 0
Thankfully, Postal didn't have to wait long to get the
equaliser. Almost straight from the kick off Postal
went into the attack and good work from Turbine
to hold off his defender on the right saw the striker,
turned midfielder, bury the ball into the back of the net.
At this
point Postal were looking in command and it looked only a
matter of time before the second goal was to come.
Unfortunately some Kamikaze defending on the right hand side
of the Postal box saw a short pass inside to keeper Smith
who then conceded a penalty by taking down the Frigate
Forward. Frigate duly converted to take an undeserved
lead.
Credit to
Postal they kept attempting to get the ball down and were
rewarded when a quick free kick on the Postal left saw
Wilson run into the box, fire in a shot which could only be
parried by the Frigate keeper and new boy Steve Combe
bundled the ball into the net for his first Postal goal.
Postal
continued looking for the 3rd goal to kill off the game and
it was found when good strong running with the ball at his
feat from Forrestor saw his shot parried by the impressive
Frigate goalkeeper only to find the ball stuck in the back
of the net by the Frigate nubmer 3 for an own goal.
Overall,
not the best performance of the season from Postal so far,
but a battling one against a young Frigate side who competed
well. Well done.
A high
tempo, competitive game from start to finish out at
Newmachar saw Postal drop their first 3 points of the
season.
The
visitors lined up with two changes from the Saturday.
Andy Smith was replaced in goals by Macmillan and Stevy
Combe replaced him at right back.
Both
teams started the game well with contrasting styles in
evidence. The hosts had what looked like an
experienced team and were hassling Postal at every
opportunity meaning the visitors struggled to play their
usual passing style.
Both
teams had good chances with the home side hitting the bar
and Postal also hitting the bar in reply from Wilson (who
replaced the injured Wood midway through the half).
Half Time
-
Newmachar 0 - Postal ALC 0
Postal
looked to be defending well and were coming more into the
game when Newmachar took the lead. The experienced
number 9 for Newmachar turned defencer Combe on the right
hand side of the box and a speculative shot sailed into the
top left hand corner of Macmillan's goal.
The
second goal from Newmachar was again a speculative shot from
the right hand side which unfortunately slipped under
Macmillans body and into the net.
Postal
could have folded but continued to attack and were rewarded
with 10 minutes remaining when a good ball by substitute
Neil MacDonald was taken on the run by Chris Turbine
who fired by the goalkeeper to give Postal some hope.
Postal
continued attacking but the equaliser was not to be.
Overall a
very competitive and enjoyable game for the spectator.
Postal will be dissapointed to lose but their effort could
not be questioned against a team which will now be a
favourite to win the league.
Postal
started this game with only one change from the team which
beat Feughside on Monday with Roddy Cameron coming in for
Neil MacDonald.
Postal
started the game impressively and were passing the ball
well. It was the home side though who took the lead
when poor marking at a corner kick saw the Glendale
midfielder score with his head at the near post.
To their
credit Postal didn't panic and continued to pass the ball
about patiently and had chances from a Patterson header and
a number of long range efforts.
They were
rewarded around the 30 minute mark when a free kick from the
impressive Andy
Allan
was sent by the keeper low at the right hand side post.
Half Time
-
Glendale 1 - Postal ALC 1
Postal
again started well in the second half with Cameron, Bews and
Turbine causing problems to the Glendale 4 at the back.
A great
passing move saw Postal take the lead when the final cross
from the right hand side was met by the on running Bews
to head into the net past the helpless Glendale keeper.
The lead
was short lived though when the Postal defence failed to
deal with another corner into the box and after a scramble
which seemed to take an age, Glendale forced the ball into
the net to equalise.
Glendale
were still celebrating though when Ure
picked the ball up from the kick off, drove on and put
Postal 3-2 ahead with a screamer from 25 yards into the
Postage Stamp.
After 2
goals against from corners Postal should have been well
warned about the Glendale threat but again poor marking saw
them surrender the lead again when the Glendale number 8
bulleted home a header to level the match again.
Luckily
Postal continued to attack the Glendale goal and were
rewarded when Centre half Patterson
headed home from a corner to win the game for Postal.
Postal
had a great start to this match when they scored within the
first 30 seconds. Good work down the Postal right hand
side by Bews saw a cross being sent across the Feughside
goal. After a bit of a scramble the ball fell to
Turbine
who fired home impressively.
The game
was fairly even for the rest of the half with two
contrasting styles. Feughside were hoping the long
ball game would pay dividends while Postal continued to try
playing on the ground when they could.
Top marks
to the Postal defence and midfield for dealing with a large
amount of corners and free kicks into the box in the first
half although some could have been avoided by fouling less.
Half Time
-
Feughside 0 - Postal ALC 1
Although
Postal were shooting uphill in the second half it was
actually them who were doing most of the attacking as they
took a hold on the game.
New
signing Roddy Cameron came on for the hard working McDonald
with 30 minutes to go and made an immediated impression by
getting booked for a foul.
Postal
went two up after some great attacking play by Forrestor on
the left forced Feughside to foul him just outside the box.
Allan stepped
up and proceeded to fire a superb free kick into the Postage
Stamp giving the keeper no chance.
Towards
the end of the game Feughside began getting streched as they
searched for a goal and Postal had some more chances to get
number three but sadly couldn't take them.
Overall a
good 3 points against a difficult team especially on their
own ground.
4 goals
in the first half hour saw Postal basically kill of their
first game in Division One North early doors.
A similar
line up to Wednesay night's game saw only two changes in
personell and no changes in formation. Wood came in
for Thomson at left back who was ill and Gall came in for
Mackie who is currently holidaying.
The first
ten minutes were fairly even with both teams competing in
searing heat at Hazelhead.
Postal
took the lead through man of the match Forrestor
after 15 minutes when the new Postal signing cut in from the
left unchallenged into the edge of the box and fired home
into the top left hand corner.
Turbine,
operating in a deeper role from last season, scored another
long range goal minutes later with some good work on the
edge of the area.
Smith in
goals was having a great game and made a superb save when
the Ferrhill number 6 manage to direct a header towards the
Postal left hand top corner, only to see Smith dive and
save.
Ure
put Postal 3 up around the 25 minute mark when good work on
the Postal right saw him put through on the Ferryhill keeper
and the right midfielder made no mistake of firing home.
The game
was basically finished as a contest when Bews
gave Postal the 4th. A great passing move down the left was
crossed across the face of the Ferrhill goal to Bews who
fired home from close range.

Ferryhill 0 - Postal ALC 4
There
weren't many of the Postal goals today which were simple but
the Postal 5th was a superb individual effort. A long
free kick into the box from left to right went over the
Ferryhill defender's heads and was met with a ferocious
volley from Allan.
Perhaps
understandably Postal's performance dipped a little after
the 5th went in and Ferryhill were allowed a goal back when
Ure was judged to have pushed a Ferrhill player at a cross.
Ferryhill
pulled another back to make it 5 - 2 with 15 minutes
to go when the ball was lost in midfield and the Ferrhill
number 11 ran through to round keeper Smith.
Bews
picked up his second and Postal's 6th when good work by
Hunter resulted in him getting took down in the Box.
Bews scored the resulting pen.
Bews
scored his hat-trick and Postal's 7th with a great
individual effort. A mistake by the Ferryhill keeper
was his throwout arrive at Bew's feet who, from long range,
lobbed over the keeper's head.
Overall,
a superb first league game by Postal in the 1st Division.
The pressure will now be on to keep up this standard.
02/08/06 v's Great Western United (Friendly at
Glentannar Jnrs/Woodside)
Great Western 2 - Postal ALC 4
Another
improved performance from Postal seen them take their second
win of the pre-season by beating Premier League Great
Western United.
With Gall
and Wood missing from the Kemnay game's starting line up,
Macmillan and Allan started the game with Mackie dropping
into Gall's position in front of the defence.
Postal
started well and were creating most of the play with a lot
of football being built from the back by the impressive
Macmillan, Patterson and Thomson.
A lack of
concentration around the 20 minute mark saw Postal go 1 down
though when a throw out from Smith was intercepted, the
resulting cross alluding Thomson and a good finish at the
back post from tht Gt Western fwd.
Postal
responded well though and continued pressing and playing
football. The result of this was a cracker from Turbine
from around 25 yards into the top left hand corner after a
good 10 passes from the away side.
Postal
continued pressing and new singning McDonald
put them into the lead with his first goal of the season for
Postal with a blast into goal from around 5 yds around the
35 minute mark.
Half Time
-
Great Western 1 - Postal ALC 2
Gt
Western replied in the second half by putting on some of
their more experienced players while Postal also put on all
the subs throughtout the half.
Gt
Western equalised quickly to make it 2-2 when a cross from
the left seemed to be taken by the wind and missed the
Postal defence but still a good finish from the Gt Western
striker to beat Smith who was having a good game in goal for
Postal.
Another
new striker, Ryan
Hunter
gave Posal the lead midway through the half when the Gt
Western goalkeeper dropped the ball right at this feet to
give the striker an easy first goal for the club.
Both
sides were struggling to keep any sort of shap towards the
end of the game as subs were coming on and off but it was
still a great finish from Neil Wison
to wrap up the game for Postal.
Overall a
good performance for Postal on a big park and against an
established Premier side.
A much
improved attitude and performance from Postal saw them get
their first win of the new season.
B.Patterson was moved to Centre Half due to an injury to
Westwood and Bews and Turbine also took their places in the
starting 11.
Both
teams didn't look as sharp as they had done in the previous
times they had met last season but Postal looked the sharper
and had most of the chances in the first half although
struggled to deal with a well organised Kemnay offside trap.
Forrestor
and McDonald were looking good going forward and it was no
surprise when Bews
scored just before half time.
Half Time
-
Kemnay 0 - Postal ALC 1
The
second half saw all of the Posties subs going on with Kemnay
also replacing some of their players including their keeper.
Goals
from the strong running Ure
and substitute
Wilson
in the second half along with a scorching long range effort
from a Kemnay midfield player saw Postal take this friendly
3 -1.
Positive
points in the game were the performance of the defence (B.Patterson
in particular), new signing Forrestor in midfield and a good
performance from Mackie who was missing from the last months
of last season.
