Postal went into the game with a decimated squad and
with Banchory flying at the moment towards winning
the league hopes weren't high.
As expected, Banchory put Postal under immediate
pressure but Postal were doing well to keep them at
bay. As the first half went on, Postal became
more confidant and were playing some nice stuff
going forward.
Against the run of play postal scored a great
individual goal from Jamie Buchan.
He collected the ball outside the Banchory area,
beat his man and fired a shot from distance over the
Banchory keeper's head.
Postal were now looking good and the game was fairly
open with both teams attacking. Banchory
scored the equaliser around the half hour mark when
a through ball on the Postal left could only be
blocked into the path of the Banchory number nine
who fired home past the helpless Smith.
With Banchory playing a high line, Postal took
advantage by playing a ball through which Forrester
ran on to from deep. The midfielder did well
to keep his cool and slipped the ball underneath the
keeper low to the left.
Unfortunately for Postal, Turbine had to come off
before half time and was replaced by Mann.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - Banchory 1
Banchory started to
second half well and were pushing Postal back
immediately. With some guys starting their
first match in months (some in years) Postal were
visibly tiring.
Everything that went
up the park was just coming straight back again and
as Banchory got corner after corner it looked only a
matter of time before they equalised.
Postal actually did
well to hold out as long as they did but with 17
minutes left on the clock the inevitable equaliser
came. Postal lost the ball cheaply in the
middle of the park and the resultant long ball found
a Banchory player on the Postal right hand side
(with Postal claiming offside). The cross into
the box was met at the back post by the Banchory
number 8 and headed into the back of the net for the
equaliser.
Banchory now had the
bit between their teeth and Postal looked dead on
their feet. With 6 minutes to go Banchory got
the winner. A cross from the Postal right hand
side saw the Banchory number 9 jump higher than the
Postal defence and his header bounced agonisingly
into the net.
Postal tried their
best to mount a late comeback but it was never on
the cards realistically.
Overall, Banchory had
about 40 corners to postal's one which tells the
story of the game. Really disapointing to lose
after putting in so much effort into the match but
with the amount of boys missing from the squad the
management will surely be pleased with the home
side's application, if not the result.
You would honestly have had to have seen Postal's
defending in the first half of this Monday night
match to have believed it.
Taking nothing away from Mill Inn who were sharper
and obviously hungrier than Postal, but to ship 5
goals in less than half an hour of a half is nothing
short of shocking.
Postal started well and it could be argued were the
better side in the opening 15 minutes. Half
chances fell to Mackie and Mckerron as Postal tried
to finish the season on a high.
It was Mill Inn who got the first goal, though, when
a slack pass from C.Patterson on the right of
defence gave pocession away. Two more passes
from the away side and the forward was clean through
on the keeper to easily knock home.
Instead of knuckling down Postal decided to take an
early end to the season and promptly handed Mill Inn
a further 4 goals. They were going in that
quickly I wont even pretend to remember how they
came about.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - AC Mill Inn 5
The second half never
started any better and Postal were 6 down within the
first 5 minutes.
The referee seemed to
take pity on Postal by giving them 2 dubious
penalties in quick succession. Buchan and
Mckerron duly converted to make the score look
slightly better.
Postal were given
further hope when Forrester netted at the
back post after good work by man of the match
Buchan.
Postal were at least
now putting a bit of effort into the game and it
might have gotten interesting if they could have got
a 4th with 20 minutes to go but it was not to be.
AC Mill Inn got a late
7th to kill the game completly.
Overall not a great
deal to be positive about. The effort all over
the park just wasn't there first half. Postal
need to get a wake up call before they play their
last game against a Banchory side who have been
notching up the wins for fun at the moment.
12/05/08 - Postal ALC V Lads Club
Amateurs (League)
Postal ALC 3 - Lads Club Amateurs
2
Postal finally secured their first division status
after their second League victory of the season
against fellow ALC team, Lads Club Amateurs.
As was the case in the first meeting between the
teams, LCA put Postal under immediate pressure by
playing 3 up front and forcing Postal onto the back
foot. Old Postal boy Ramsay was causing
particular problems on the Postal right but Ure was
up to the task.
Postal were defending steadfastly though and were
looking particularly sharp on the counter attack
with McKerron leading the line well and Mackie and
Buchan breaking fast.
Against the run of play Postal scored the opener.
With LCA pushing bodies forward at every opportunity
they were always looking wide open at the back.
Midfielder
Ure
is on a great run of scoring at the moment and he
did well again to leave his defending duties to
latch on to a bouncing ball in the LCA box and fire
home (admittedly there was a questionable
deflection, but we'll give him the goal).
LCA were still forcing Postal back and got a
deserved equaliser after slack defending at a set
piece. With postal defending just inside their
own box the free kick came in. The LCA number
8 lost his man and ghosted in to prod the ball past
Smith.
Summers had to come off with an injury and on came
Turbine. The big man made an immediate impact.
Good work by Buchan sent over a cross from the
Postal left hand side. Mackie first tried his
luck but when the ball broke it was Turbine
who made sure.
Postal were now looking the more comfortable side
and looked as if they would score every time they
came forward.
That makes the second LCA goal all the more
annoying. Postal switched off when they
thought they should have been awarded a throw in.
Unfortunately LCA didn't and when Postal failed to
clear their lines in their own box the forward
knocked home the equaliser.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - LCA 2
Thankfully the second
half was kinder to Postal. They started
fantastically well when great individual work by
McKerron on the Postal right saw his shot knocked
home by the hard working Buchan for the front
man's 10th of the season.
There was to be no
more goals but chances galore for Postal and a few
half chances for LCA to keep both sets of supporters
on their toes right to the end.
Mackie was now
dominating the midfield battle and with LCA having
to push for the equaliser holes were being found by
the industrious Turbine.
Twice he was through
one on one with the LCA keeper but couldn't convert
although his run in on goal was to be commended.
McKerron also missed a gilt edge chance to finish
the game for Postal when he found himself with a
free header at the back post but the big man could
only watch as his header went by the post.
Turbs also had an
audacious shot from just inside his own half when
the keeper had gone walk about but unluckily his
shut just went wide.
Scares for Postal came
when Man of the match Forrester attempte a clearance
from his own 6 yard box only to see it cannon
towards goal. Luckily keeper Smith was on hand
to save his blushes.
Postal sent on Dale
for the last 10 and LCA sent on Cramer. The
average age on the pitch went from 25 to 45.
A last corner for LCA
gave them some hope to equalise but given the
chances Postal created during the game it would have
been a travesty had they not walked away with all 3
points.
Overall, it's always
satisfyng to beat your local rivals but all the more
so given the league positions of both teams before
the game. Well done lads.
10/05/08 - Bon Accord City V Postal ALC
(AFC Trophy)
Bon Accord 4 - Postal ALC 1
Poor finishing and slack defending saw Postal give
up their last chance of silverware for this season.
On a sunny day at Balgownie Postal took on the
league leaders. Mackie and Forrester came back
in for the away side with Thomson working and
Mckerron dropping to the bench.
The first half was a fairly even affair, and
although Bon Accord were being given a little bit
too much time on the ball it wasn't unexpected given
their form this season. Postal were putting in
a good effort though and the home side looked
vulnerable at the back when Postal broke forward.
Bon Accord were first to score, though. A
corner into the box saw schoolboy defending from
Postal and the unmarked Bon Accord number 9 easily
headed home with marker Patterson nowhere near him.
To their credit, Postal battled back into the game
again and good work on the Postal right saw Ure
clear through on goal. The midfielder is in
good form at the moment and showed the Postal
forwards how to bury a chance when he fired home
from just inside the box.
A
controversial offside decision from the referee
denied Postal another chance just before half time.
With the Bon Accord defence playing a high line the
Postal sent a great pass through which would have
seen the Postal forward straight through on goal but
the referee, expertly positioned on the 18 yard
line, ruled against the forward.
HALF
TIME – Bon Accord 1 - Postal ALC 1
A nightmare start for
the Posties saw them go behind again in the first 5
minutes. Postal were actually attacking when
they lost the ball casually on the left. One
quick counter attack later and Wood was found one on
one with a Bon Accord attacker. The Bon Accord
player beat the defender on the left and crashed
home his shot from just inside the box under the
body of keeper Smith.
Again Postal rallied
and were by far the better team for the next 15
minutes. The first chance fell to Summers.
Postal were awarded an indirect free kick just
inside the Bon Accord box. The kick was
blocked but Buchan managed to beat his man and send
over an inch perfect cross to the waiting Summers.
It looked harder to miss, but the ball sailed
agonisingly over the bar.
Sitter number two fell
to Buchan. The forward had done really well to
steal the ball off of the Bon Accord number 5 but
with only the keeper to beat Buchan ballooned the
ball over the bar from 6 yards out.
More good football saw
the next chance fall to Turbine. A great ball
across the face of the Bon Accord box found the on
running Turbine but his shot cannoned off the Bon
Accord keeper.
Bon Accord got the 3rd
goal with more slack defending at a set piece.
Postal had been warned about the Bon Accord number 9
in the first half but didn't pay attention. He again
won the first header when the ball came into the box
and although it didn't go in, when it bounced down a
Bon Accord player was first to the ball to hammer
home.
There was still 25
minutes to go at this point and with the way they
had been playing Postal could have put more pressure
on the home side, but annoyingly the heads went
down, the hands went on the hips and the game as a
contests ended.
Man of the match
number 9 scored his second and Bon Accord's 4th with
10 minutes remaining, McKerron came on for Postal
and had a couple of decent efforts saved but Postal
had given up the ghost by that point.
Overall, for an hour,
Postal competed and played well but you can't defend
and finish as we did against a team of Bon Accords
quality and expect to take anything from it.
The attitude was also dissapointing when the 3rd
went in but thankfully the next game is not far away
and no motivation will be needed when Lads Club make
their first appearance at Westfield on Monday night.
Note, for a neutral's
report on the copy the link below into your internet
browser:
Postal travelled out to Findon to meet Rattrays for
the second successive Monday. With Mackie
missing, Postal drafted in McKerron who played up
front with Turbine.
Both sides sent out very positive formations with
Rattrays starting with 3 up top and Postal also
playing with 3 at the back.
Postal dealt with the Rattrays attack well in the
first half and the home side rarely threatened the
Postal keeper. The tight pitch didn't help but
most of the play was getting caught up in the middle
of the park.
Postal were doing most of the attacking and
certainly had the better of the half but to be
honest didn't have that many clear cut chances.
One came when good work by buchan on the right saw
his cross across the face of goal just missing both
Tu rbine and McKerron at the back post.
McDonald had another free kick in an almost
identical position to his goal on Saturday.
This time his shot was driven low to the keepers
left post, but with the keeper scrambling he saw his
shot go just wide.
Postal eventually took the lead when a cross into
the box from the Postal right saw Buchan,
playing in a slightly deeper role tonight, head from
just outside the 6 yard box past the diving Rattrays
keeper.
Postal were causing problems with good running from
Buchan and Summers in behind the front two but the
half ended with only the one goal.
HALF
TIME – Rattrays 0 - Postal ALC 1
The second half was
exciting for both sets of supporters. With the
fog rolling in, Rattrays pushed another defender up
front, going man for man at the back.
For the most part
Postal defended very well but, as per the first
game, were getting pushed further and further back
as the half went on.
Rattrays were now
forcing corner after corner and Postal were
struggling to make the ball stick up front for any
period of time.
With 12 minutes
remaining Rattrays got the equaliser. With the
ball bobbling about the postal box they couldn't
clear their lines and when the ball broke to the
Rattrays number 11 just inside the box he fired home
into the Postal keepers left hand side nettting.
This was dissapoiting as the same player has just
fired the same shot minutes befor hand just wide but
Postal failed to heed the warning.
To their credit Postal
came back at Rattrays and the last 10 minutes was
real end to end stuff.
With Rattrays
desperate for league points they piled men forward
in search of the winner but it was actually postal
who had the best of the chances. The best of
them dropped to Turbine who picked up the ball just
outside the box after the keeper had became stranded
but his shot ended up clearing the bar.
Overall, you can't
fault either team for the effort they put in.
Nobody likes dropping points but it's certainly
easier to take when the team applies itself as it
did tonight. Roll on the quarter final on
Saturday.
Postal bounced back from dropping two points on
Monday with a resounding win against Glendale.
Postal shuffled the pack with Smith, Thomson and
McDonald replacing Macmillan, C.Patterson and
Forrester.
Glendale started the game with only 10 players and
Postal were immediatley puting them under pressure.
Ure in particular on the Postal right hand side was
proving a handfull for Glendale.
Postal had an appeal for a pen turned down when a
great through ball over the top from B.Patterson
found Ure one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The
keeper took Ure completely out of the game but the
ref deemed it to be outside the box.
Unbelievably the keeper wasn't even booked.
Glendale managed to get another man on the park but
still weren't causing the Postal defence any
problems at all. It looked only a matter of
time before Postal scored. The deadlock was
eventually broken when Postal were awarded with a
free kick to the right of the Glendale box.
Mcdonald
swung the ball in and managed to loop it over the
head of the Glendale keeper.
Summers had a chance before the half ended but
couldn't convert.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 Glendale 0
The second half was
all Postal. Mackie was dominating the game
from the midfield and seemed to be all over the park
winning balls and driving Postal forward to get the
second goal.
Postal managed to get
their second when a short corner was flighted over
and left back Thomson, returning from work
commitments, headed home for his 6th goal of the
season.
The Postla 3rd came
from a free kick just outside the Glendale 18 yard
box. This time Turbine took control and
drilled a hard shot lround the wall low to the left
which the keeper could only watch hit the back of
the net.
Shortly after this
with Postal still dominating at 3 nil up and Mackie
running away with the MOM award he somehow managed
to get himself sent off. A seemingly innocuous
challenge from a Glendale player on the Postal right
saw the player get caught up the opposition player
who went down as if he had been shot. The
result was a red card for the Postal player.
With 5 minutes
remaining Glendale gave themselves a little bit of
hope when a long range effort sailed over keeper
Smith's head, but Postal put an end to any hope when
Turbine scored his second and Postal's 4th a
minute later with a cracking finish after cutting in
from the left hand side.
Overall the sending
off took a little bit of shine off a decent Postal
performance but Postal can be more than happy with
the performance and the 3 points.
Given the amount of one-on-ones with the keeper
Postal had in this game it was unbelievable that
Postal walked off the pitch at the end of this game
without the 3 points but credit to a battling
Rattrays that is exactly what happened.
Postal started the game well and were far the better
team. Ure for Postal had the first chance when
he found himself with only the keeper to beat but
couldn't convert.
Summers was next when he raced in from the Postal
left only to see his shot go past the right hand
side post.
Postal eventually took the lead when a corner kick
to the back post was knocked down to Ure
by Cumming and the right midfielder crashed home his
shot.
The only problems Rattrays were causing at this
point was in the air with Mitchell a threat but
being dealt with adequatly by the defence.
Summers again found himself one on one with the
keeper after the Rattrays defence were found
shouting for offside but he couldn't convert and the
half ended with postal one up.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 Rattrays XL 0
Rattrays switched
their number 9 up front in the second half and his
injection of pace was causing Postal some concern.
The Rattrays equaliser
was through slackness in the postal defence though.
A simple throw on the Postal left saw the ball come
into the box and with C.Patterson sleeping Mitchell
knocked the ball home far too easily to equalise.
Postal had to
reorganise when Dale had to come off injured.
Turbine came on up front and Summers moved into
midfield.
The substitution
looked to have paid dividends for Postal though when
good work by Buchan on the Postal left managed to
knock the ball along the Rattrays 6 yard box and
Turbine knocked home.
A guilt edged chance
to Buchan just infront of the keeper and a strong
long range shot well saved from B.Patterson would
have put Postal on easy street but the longer the
game went on without a Postal winner seemed to make
Postal nervy and encourage Rattrays.
Rattrays again
equalised in contriversial fashion. Slack play
from the Postal defence saw Mitchell home in on
goal. C.Patterson slid into make what seemed a
perfectly timed tackle only for the referee
(situated somewhere beside the half way line) give a
penalty which the number 9 duly converted.
Rattrays finished the
stronger side and only a great save by stand in
keeper Macmillan spared further Postal blushes.
Overall a decent
Postal performance in terms of the football being
played especially first half but the silly goals
against need to be cut out and hopefully if they
create half as much chances against Glendale on
Saturday another 3 points will be picked up.
26/04/08 - Postal ALC V Glendale
(AFC Trophy 3rd Round )
Postal ALC 3 - Glendale 1
Postal won themselves a Quarter final place in the
AFC on a sunny day at Westfield.
The first half was largly forgettable with both
teams causing very few problems for the goalkeepers.
Postal at least had an excuse with the wind blowing
against them for the whole of the half.
Postal had a good penalty claim turned down when
Summers was sent through on the goalkeeper. He
managed to lift the ball over the keeper but as the
ball went over the bar it looked like he was taken
out of the game by the Glendale keeper. The
ref disagreed.
Glendale ended the half on top and Postal seemed to
be sitting back too much allowing Glendale to come
forward.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 Glendale 0
The second half
started much the same as the first. Both teams
were serving up pretty poor fair for the sidelines.
It was Glendale that
took the lead though early in the half. A
cross into the box saw the Glendale forward control
the ball and lay it back into the path of his team
mate. The resultant shot could only be parried
by Smith and the free ball was duly knocked home.
This sparked Postal
into life and they thankfully started treating the
game with a bit more urgency.
Postal were rewarded
when they were awarded with a free kick on the right
hand side. Woods cross into the box was
expertly met by Ure at the back post who
bulleted his header home to equalise.
With only 4 minutes
remaining the game looked like it was going to extra
time. C.Patterson picked up a loose
ball on the half way line and with no one
challenging kept on running until a Glendale
defender eventually put in a challenge to give away
a corner kick. The big defender looked too
tired to run back so stayed up for the corner and
wouldn't you know it, when the cross came in it was
Patterson who rose to head home the winner and his
first goal in 4 years..
Buchan scored a
decent third for Postal from just outside the box to
wrap up the game a minute from time.
Overall not the best
Postal performance but much better defensively and
showed character by coming back from behind.
Well done.
Another incredibly bad defensive performance from
Postal. Home side were short of bodies again
but no excuses can be made for the drivel that was
served up.
1st goal - Bon Accord number 10 wins header easily,
resultant attack sees silly foul given away.
Free kick, defender misses ball to clear ball, keepr
fluffs, goal.
2nd goal - Simple ball over the top, no
communication between defense and keeper, Bon Accord
number 10 nips in again to score.
Postal score through Buchan
but still dont learn lesson in defense.
3rd goal - Another ball over the top, Postal's
Patterson, rag dolled again by a rampant number 10
who knocks past Smith easily.
4th goal - Defense all over the place as cross comes
in from the right and Bon Accord player knocks home
easy as you like unchallenged.
Bon Accord defense looking as bad as Postal's and
Cumming
scores to give Postal some hope going into 2nd half.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 Bon Accord 4
Postal no better 2nd
half and Bon Accord quickly score another 2 with
Postal in dissaray.
Overall, a night to
forget for most of the team. Although they
wont meet a much better side than Bon Accord between
now and the end of the season, the performance was
unnacceptable. Absolutely no point in letting
the heads drop though and Postal must look for a
reaction on Saturday if they are to keep themselves
in the hunt for a game at Pittodrie.
19/04/08 - University
Strollers V Postal ALC (League)
University Stollers 1 - Postal ALC
2
On a sunny afternoon at Balgownie both teams
produced a game with much better quality than they
offered up 5 days earlier.
Postal welcomed back Wood, Summers and Forrester,
replacing Dale, C.Patterson and South.
From the very start Postal were putting in a lot of
effort. Both right and left midfielders, Ure
and McDonald were having to work hard going forward
and in defence and McDonald in particular was seeing
a lot of the ball on he Postal left early doors.
Although Uni were making Postal work in midfield and
at the back it's fair to say that keeper Smith
wasn't really troubled in the first half with Postal
creating most of the chances.
Postal had a stone wall penalty denied when good
individual work by Buchan saw the tricky forward
skip past 3 players before being bundled to the deck
in the box. The ref saw differently though and
Postal had to try again.
The ref infuriated the Postal bench again when
Postal forward buchan was blatantly taken out of the
game just outside the Uni box on the left.
Much to everyone's amazement a card wasn't shown.
Postal eventually took the lead when the heavily
influential
Mackie
managed to find himself one-on-one with the Uni
keeper and he poked the ball home to the right hand
post under heavy pressure from a Uni defender.
HALF
TIME – Uni Strollers 0 - Postal ALC 1
Postal didn't start
particularly well in the second half and were
sitting far too deep although to their credit, Uni
forced more bodies forward.
There were a few
nervous moments in the Postal defence before they
eventually started coming back into the game again.
Buchan was doing well
up front and causing the Uni defence problems but
the final ball into the box or shot never really
caused the Uni keeper any problems.
Postal got the second
with 15 minutes to go, and what a goal it was.
With all the Uni players inside the Postal half
apart from their keeper, Man of the Match Mackie
launched a long kick out from just inside his own
half and much to everyones amazement it looped over
the Uni keepers head. It took everyone on the
pitch and the sidelines by surprised and there was
no reaction from anyone in and around the pitch
seconds after the ball hit the back of the net.
Postal gave themselves
an interesting last few minutes when they allowed
the tall number 9 for Uni to get away from them and
poke the ball home but luckily there was to be no
more goals and teh 3 points went back to Westfield.
Overall a much better
defensive performance from Postal and the effort the
players put in to the game all over the pitch would
have impressed the management team ahead of the game
against the top of the league on Wednesday.
14/04/08 - Postal ALC V University
Strollers (League)
Postal ALC 4 - University
Stollers 2
Postal can thank their forwards for getting them all
3 points in this must-win game against bottom of the
table Uni Strollers. Defensivly Postal looked
uncharacteristically shaky all through the match but
thankfully they got their first win of this 9 game
run-in to the end of the season.
Postal started slowly although Turbine and Mackie
were looking sharp going forward. The Uni
keeper made one of the saves of the season when he
managed to palm a Ure header just over the bar.
Postal took the lead when Turbine
found himself unmarked in the box and slammed home
from close range.
Postal doubled their lead when the Uni keeper
dropped the ball at the feet of McDonald
who knocked the ball home for his 5th of the season.
Postal should have built on this lead but before the
half was over they began to self destruct. A
corner kick to the back post saw B.Patterson in a
tussle with the Uni forward and the ref had no
hesitation in awarding a pen against the central
defender. Uni easily converted.
Uni scored their second just before half time when a
break from a Uni midfielder saw Postal back off and
back off until he managed to get the ball wide on
the Postal left. The resultant cross was met
half heartedly by C.Patterson who could only manage
to pass the ball to a Uni forward who easily knocked
the ball home.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - Uni Strollers 2
To be honest the
Posties weren't too much better defensivly in the
second half either but thankfully they were clinical
in front of goal tonight.
Midfielder Ure
converted with a strike from just inside the Uni box
just after half time and Mackie scored a
smashing solo effort minutes later to seal the game.
Uni had a number of
chances going forward but couldn't convert
thankfully and Posties managed to hold on to their
lead for the rest of the game.
The refereeing
performance was very poor in this game as he seemed
to become card happy the more tired he got (although
for some reason the Uni players never seemed to get
booked). With 5 minutes remaining Ure was
shown a red card for kicking out at a Uni player on
the Postal right hand side.
Overall Postal will be
happy with their finishing in this game but
certainly not their best performance of the
campaign. Special mentions to Mikey Dale who
was solid throughout at left back, Mackie in the
middle of the park and Turbine upfront who probably
put in his best performance of the season.
05/04/08 - Postal ALC V
Theologians (White Cup Semi final)
Postal ALC 0 - Theologians 1
Postal only have themselves to blame after bombing
out of the White Cup with a lacklustre perfomance at
a windy Balgownie.
With Summers and Forrester missing from the last
game, B Patterson and G Scally were drafted in.
Postal started the game against the wind but the
first half was a fairly even affair. If
anything Postal were probalby playing the better
football although conditions were hampering both
teams.
Both keepers had a quiet first half really and never
had a save to make. Both teams had a few
corners but never really put any pressure on the
goal with the only notable chance for the Posties
coming with a Buchan chance coming off the post.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Theologians 0
Postal were confidant
that with the wind at their backs in the second half
they would be able to put more pressure on the Theos
defence but it just never happened.
Pocession was lost
easily, Theos began to look sharper and generally
Postal looked to be lacking in match practise.
In saying that, the
game was still even for most of the second half,
with no clear cut chances for either side, although
it's fair to say that the last 15 minutes of the
half Theos started to dominate.
Disaster struck for
Postal with 5 minutes to go. A sloppy tackle
from C Patterson on the edge of the box saw the
defender go down with a knock to the knee. The
resultant ball out wide on the Postal left was
driven into the box where the incomming B.Patterson
saw his attempted clearance fly past Smith into his
own net.
This was particularly
harsh on Patterson who had been one of Postal's
better performers on the day.
Postal huffed and
puffed for the remaining minutes but it never looked
likely they would salvage the game.
Overall Postal will
feel that they never played anywhere near the level
they can. There can be no time for feeling
sorry for themselves though as they enter the most
important point of the league campaign. The
management team will be looking for everyone to put
in the effort over the last 9 league games to
firstly secure league status then push on up the
table.
17/03/08 - Rothie Rovers V Postal ALC
(AFC Trophy)
Rothie Rovers 1 - Postal ALC 2
A decimated
Postal side travelled to Rothienorman with only 11
players available. In bright sunshine Postal
started kicking down the slope.
From the beginning of the game Postal were playing
some nice football and were creating lots of
chances. The breakthrough came early in the
game when a Postal attack saw the ball only get
cleared as far as Neil Summers
who slammed the ball home low to the keepers right
hand side from the edge of the box.
Slack defending let Rothie back into the game though
around the half hour mark when Patterson was posted
missing from the Postal defence and the resultant
attack saw Rothie level against the run of play.
Postal continued to dominate for the remainder of
the half and keeper Smith was rarely troubled but
the second goal never came.
HALF
TIME – Rothie Rovers 1 - Postal ALC 1
The second half saw
Postal struggling to get out of their own half as
Rothie used the slope to their advantage.
Corner after corner
rained down on the Postal defence but concentration
levels were high and they did well to keep Rothie
out.
Keeper Smith made two
great saves from long distance drives from the
Rothie midfield.
Postal's determination
paid off with 10 minutes to go when Chris Turbine
managed to collect the ball on the Postal left, run
in on the keeper and slip it under his body for his
6th of the season.
No more goals saw
Postal through to the next round.
Overall, never an easy
place to go to and with the amount of bodies missing
the Postal management will be more than happy to get
back to winning ways.
Postal lost their third successive league game this
weekend with a defensive nightmare at Banchory.
From the off, Postal's pocession and passing was
second best to Banchory although the home side
weren't exactly setting the heather alight either.
The amount of passes that Postal gave away in the
first half was embarrising and the homes side didn't
get worked hard enough to win the ball back.
Banchory had two or three chances to score in the
first half before they eventually got their first.
Another slack pass saw Postal again lose pocession.
The resultant through ball saw Postal sleeping at
the back and with the keeper slow to come off his
line he was caught in no-mans-land which the
Banchory stiker exploited by lobbing home.
With 5 minutes left Postal got an equaliser.
Good work on the left saw striker McKerron square
across the face of the Banchory goal and Summers
knocked the ball home.
Sloppy defending just before half time by Postal
again handed Banchory back the advantage though.
A Banchory player on the Postal left was allowed too
easily to get a cross into the box and with the
marking again poor the Banchory forward hit home
after an attempted clearance.
HALF
TIME – Banchory 2 - Postal ALC 1
If things were bad in
the first half, the second was a disaster for
Postal. Three more goals conceeded and 2 men
sent off must have had the big crowd on the Banchory
line laughing.
The Banchory 3rd came
early in the half when a corner into the box was met
first by a Banchory player and although keeper Smith
knocked the ball onto the bar, the rebound was
headed home by the same player.
The referee was
beginning to lose control of the game at this point
and was being heavily influenced by the Banchory
sideline.
Postal lost their
first player when Mckerron was sent off after
kicking the ball into the chest of a Banchory player
on the ground after the whistle had gone. A
harsh decision and you wonder if it had been a
Banchory player whether the same decision would have
got a yellow card.
Postal changed
formation and brought on the returning Ure and
Forrester. Ure made an immediate impact
and scored straight away to give Postal some hope.
Unfortunatley they
again couldn't keep the home team out for more than
two minutes when the Banchory number 9 skinned a
Postal defender too easily on the Postal right
byline and he did well to knock the ball past Smith
from a tight angle.
The game was killed
stone dead when, following a Postal attack, a long
ball into the Postal box was met again by the
Banchory number 9 who looked to have been tackled
successfully by right back South. Once again
though, a loud shout from the Banchory side-line was
enough to turn the refs head and Sough paid the
price with a straight red card. The Banchory
forward scored from the resulting pen.
Two decent chances
fell to the hardworking Buchan late in the game but
with only 9 men it was well beyond them at that
point.
Overall, Postal can
finger point at the ref as much as they want but the
performance wasn't good enough and a Banchory side,
not playing the best football either, still deserved
to win. Hopefully the break from league duty
against Rothienorman this weekend will kickstart
Postal back into life.
Postal lost for the second time in as many weeks
against Bervy at home in the league.
Postal kicked off against an horrendous wind with a
depleted side. With South, B Patterson,
Mackie, Mackenzie and Ure missing from the previous
week Turbine, C Patterson and Scally were drafted
in.
Bervy started the stronger side and, along with the
wind were pinning Postal into their own half.
It was early in the game when Postal lost the first
goal. Sloppy defending from a Postal attack
saw Bervy win a corner kick. From the
resultant corner the Bervy midfielder lost his man
and headed past the helpless Smith.
The keeper had another excellent game in goal for
Postal with his handling particularly impressive and
he deservedly won the man of the match for Postal.
Postal had a few decent moves and were trying hard
to play football with some strong running from
midfielder Summers in the first half.
The best chance of the first half fell to Bews who
ran through on goal with the ball but shot wide of
the target.
Other than that, there wasn't a lot of chances for
either side although Bervy had the lion's share of
pocession.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Bervy Caley
Postal were optimistic
that, with the wind at their backs in the second
half, they could be more of an attacking force.
Unfortunately they
again conceded an early goal which knocked the wind
out of their sails.
Bervy right midfielder
Fotheringham won pocession on the Postal left and
fired in a speculative drive. Keeper Smith
could only look on in anguish as the ball cannoned
off of captain Wood to sneak in at the keepers left
hand post.
The rest of the half
was fairly even as the wind actually dropped.
A Buchan long range effort which cannoned off the
bar and another Bews effort which went well wide of
the post were Postal's only chances.
Postal went for broke
with 3 at the back when McKerron replaced Patterson.
The big stiker made an immediate impact when he
scored a looping shot over the Bervy keeper's head
to give Postal some hope.
Postal dominated for
the last 10 minutes and thought they had equalised
when full back Thomson headered against the post but
it wasn't to be.
Overall Postal still
didn't give Bervy anywhere near their best
peformance although it was certainly better than the
last time the sides met. One of the only plus
points for the Postal is that they never gave up and
battled on till the last whistle. Hopefully
the football will improve this Saturday against
Banchory.
Postal needed a reaction to last week's defeat if
they were to compete with the top of the league in
this League cup Quarter Final at Westfield.
Thankfully they got it.
Postal welcomed back South, McDonald and Bews to the
side and from the very start of the match they
looked at least to be matching Bon Accord.
Postal took the lead around the 15 minute mark when
a high looping corner from McDonald on the right was
powered home from a header by right midfielder
Summers.
The second wasn't long in coming as Postal were
causing the aging Bon Accord problems with their
speed up front and on the flanks. A good break
away up the Postal right saw midfielder Mackie fire
in a shot but his effort looked to be going wide
until the sharp Summers
sneaked in behind the Bon Accord defence to fire
home his and Postal's second.
Bon Accord threatened with some corners and some
stong running from their number 7 but the defence
held strong in the first half.
The Postal 3rd came at an ideal time before half
time when a Bon Accord goal might have caused
jitters. A good through ball to Bews,
again on the Postal right, saw the striker go
through on goal. Unfortunately he got caught
up by the opposing defence but managed to produce an
excellent finish to chip the keeper and get his 19th
of the season so far
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 3 - Bon Accord 0
Postal needed to keep
it tight early in this half so as to give the
opposition no encouragement and did well to do this.
Keeper Smith, especially, made some excellent saves
to keep the 3 goal difference.
Postal made it 4 when
Summers completed his hat trick. A good
ball from right back South saw the Bon Accord
players call for offside when Summers ran through on
the keeper to slot home.
Bon Accord saw a
player sent off for a second booking and they scored
a late consilation goal but after the 4th Postal
goal the game basically petered out.
Overall an excellent
result for Postal against a team clear at the top of
the league. Having now put out high flying
Banchory and Bon Accord, Postal must be confidant of
reaching the final of this competition.
Postal never turned up till the second half in this
1st Division East game but by that point Bervy had
ran away with the game.
From the very beginning Bervy looked hungrier to win
and Postal were second to most 50/50 balls.
The first goal for the home side came from a
mistake. A simple ball over the top was met by
defender B.Patterson but the resultant pass back
wasn't dealt with by keeper Smith (who would have
felt the pass was too strong) and the Bervy forward
easily knocked the ball into the empty net.
The second goal again didn't cover the Postal
defence in glory as a ball from the Postal right was
failed to be cleared. Midfielder Mackie was
caught in pocession on the edge of the box and the
Bervy player fired home from just inside the box.
Postal did have a few half chances, midfielder
Forrestor was one on one with the Bervy keeper but
the stopper did well to block the shot.
Cumming also had a shot which was unlucky to go in.
From this chance Bervy broke up the park at speed
and from long range the Bervy number eight fired
home a great shot for the third and killer goal.
HALF
TIME – Bervy Caley 3 Postal ALC 0
With Mackie struggling
with a thigh injury ex Postal captain Davy Gall came
on for his first start of the season. This
sprung Postal into life and their performance in the
second half was much much better (although the slope
on the Bervy pitch also played its part).
Another one on one
with the keeper again saw Forrestor lose out to the
keeper, some long range efforts but to be fair it
never looked as if Postal were ever going to make a
comeback.
Overall a very
dissapointing performance and effort in the first
half from most of the Postal players after a decent
run of form in the past few months. Lets hope
it was just a blip and the quarter final of the
league cup this weekend will inspire the troops to
lift themselves again.
Postal returned to Westfield for the first time
since October for this League cup game against
Banchory. With South and Scally missing, C
Patterson returned to the centre of defence.
A
bad start to the game saw Postal go one down within
minutes of the game starting. A long throw-in
from the Postal left hand side was missed by both
defence and keeper and the unmarked Banchory player
easily knocked the ball home at the back post.
Although never completely comfortable at the back in
the first half, Postal began to take control of the
game and were causing Banchory more problems than
the away side were creating.
Chances to Forrestor, Bews and Buchan were all
missed although credit to the Banchory goalkeeper
who did well for all 3 chances.
Postal finally got a deserved equaliser when a throw
in from the Postal right hand side was headed on by
B Patterson to forward Buchan
who looped the ball over the head of the Banchory
keeper for his 6th goal of the season.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 Banchory 1
Postal didn't start
the second half very well and with the wind blowing
into their faces were struggling to get out of their
own half.
It was against the run
of play that they took the lead when a decent
diagonal ball from the Postal left eventually found
the prolific Bews who knocked the ball home
into the empty net.
This seemed to make
Postal go backwards though and very little football
was played by the home team who seemed to find it
impossible to pass or keep hold of the ball.
The eqaliser for
Banchory came from another set piece when, again,
Postal failed to clear their lines or pick up their
men and an unmarked Banchory player knocked home.
Soon after, Banchory
took the lead again when a low cross from the Postal
left was met by defender B Patterson who watched as
his attempted clearance rebounded against the on
running Banchory fwd past keeper Smith.
Postal showed great
character though and refused to give the game up.
They battled back and Buchan found himself running
one on one with the Banchory keeper who brought the
forward down in the box to give Postal a pen.
The goalkeeper was duly sent off and Bews
dispatched the pen.
Postal had the better
of the extra time with chances falling to Mckerron
and Turbine but it always looked as if pens were on
the cards. Just as the game was coming to an
end B Patterson was sent off for a petulant kick at
a Banchory player.
In a shocking display
of pen taking from both sides Postal ended up
victorious. Postal missed 4 pens (Mckerron,
Turbine, Buchan and Wood) and scored 4 (Bews,
Summers, Thomson and Mackie) but luckily Banchory
were worse (with Smith saving twice and 3 being
missed).
Overall not Postal's
best performance of the season but they can be proud
of their attitude and refusal to give the tie up
when going behind twice.
FULL TIME
– Postal ALC 3 - Banchory 3 (Postal win on
pens)
Postal delivered their best performance of the new
year as they totally dominated Johnshaven away from
home.
With Turbine injured, Postal welcomed back Colin
South to their back 4 and Buchan took up his usual
position up front.
From start to finish, Postal were in control of this
league match. Alan Mackie was dominant in the
middle of the park and Mconald on the right of
midfield was creating a lot of problems for
Johnshaven with his strong running and shots from
distance.
The only problem for Postal in the opening 20
minutes was how to get the ball into the back of the
net. Bews had two good chances in front of
goal which he couldn't quite manage to get into the
net. McDonald had two good drives from
distance which just went over the bar and Forrestor
had a good run into the box from the left only to
see the keeper make a good stop.
The breakthrough goal finally came when a good move
by Postal eventually seen the ball sent across the
face of the Johnshaven box and striker Bews
stabbed the ball home.
Only 5 minutes later though, in one of their few
attacks, Johnshaven were awarded a pen. With
the Postal defence out of position, South found
himelf on the wrong side of the Johnshaven attacker
in the box. With the attacker visably pulling
on South, the Postal defender wrestled back but was
deemed to have done so illegally and was harshly
punished.
Luckily for postal the Johnshaven number 5 sent the
pen past the Keeper's right hand post.
Postal continued to dominate the half and thought
they had made it two when another long range shot
from McDonald came down off the bar and was poked
home by Buchan. Unfortunately the ref deemed
Buchan to have been in an offside position and
chalked the goal off much to the annoyance of the
Postal bench.
HALF
TIME – Johnshaven 0 - Postal ALC 1
Johnshaven started
better in the second half but Postal soon
re-established control of the game. Cumming
was putting in a great shift in the centre of the
park and Postal keeper Smith was having a very easy
day.
More chances were
spurned as the half went on and at 1 nil it's always
a bit uncomfortable. Thankfully for Postal
they deservedly scored a second midway through the
half when a cross from Bews on the left was met by
Thomson who saw his shot bounce off the Johnshaven
defender and into the net for an OG.
With 15 minutes to go,
Summers, Mackenzie and trialist Mckerron came on and
Summers almost had an immediate effect when he ran
through on the keeper only to see his shot go over
the bar.
Mckerron
finished off a great day at the office for Postal
when he scored on his debut. Like Summers, he
found himself one on one with the keeper and kept
his composure to chip the ball over his head and
into the net.
Overall one of
Postal's best performances of the season and a clean
sheet to keep their unbeaten run going.
Postal kept up their recent unbeaten run with a draw
at Aultens but will come away deeply dissapointed
not to take all 3 points.
With South, Scally, Summers and Patterson
unavailable, Postal changed formation slightly,
moving Thomson into the middle of defence and
pulling Forrestor back to left back.
The game was only a minute old when Cumming found
himself on the wrong side of his man and pulled him
down in the box. Luckily for Postal, keeper
Smith has been in fine form of late and pulled off a
good save, low at his right hand post.
The first 15 minutes were fairly even but Postal's
gameplan was disrupted on 15 minutes when a simple
through ball down the Theos right hand side wasn't
dealt with by Forrestor who was being fouled by
Postal old boy Stan Smith. Forrestor
petulantly kicked out and a booking was expected.
To Postal's amazement, though, the ref (being
watched by a supervisor) sent off the left back.
A very harsh decision and one which surely wouldn't
have been made in normal circumstances.
5
minutes later Postal found themselves behind when a
corner into the box was nodded on at the front post
and poked past Smith at the back post.
The seemed to kick Postal into life and you would
have thought it was them who had the extra man.
For the rest of the half it was all Postal but no
real clear cut chances were created.
HALF
TIME – Theologians 1 - Postal ALC 0
Postal didn't start
the second half as well as they had ended the first
and Theos, with the extra man were starting to come
more into the game.
To Postals credit
though they soon got their act together again and
were creating more chances and playing much the
better football.
The equaliser
deservedly came when a cross from the Postal left
was missed by the Theos defence and was bundled into
the net by Buchan.
Postal were now
pressing for the winner but tiredness was definatley
playing it's part by the late stages of the game and
disaster struck when the ball was lost in midfield
then not cleared from defence and a Theos player
managed to make it 2 nil with a low shot from
outside the box past Smith.
To their credit Postal
refused to lie down and were justly rewarded for all
their effort when a great cross from Neil McDonald
was nodded home by Thomson.
Overall the Postal
management will be more than happy with the team's
spirit in fighting back twice with 10 men and the
fact a draw against Theos was treated with such
dissapointment is encouraging for the rest of the
season.
Postal won their 5th game out of six this weekend at
a cold, rain soaked Shedocksley. It also
didn't help both teams that the replacement referee
turned up 30 minutes late.
Due to holidays and work, changes were made which
saw new signing Colin South come straight into the
side and Neil Summers was also welcomed back.
Both sides started well and the football being
played by both teams made up for the cold weather
for the sidelines (slightly). Glendale XL were
looking sharp up front and with the wind blowing
into Postal's faces they were causing the Postal
defence some anxious times.
It was Postal who took the lead, though, when the
ball dropped to centre midfielder Cumming
just outside the right hand side of the Glendale XL
box. The Postal players were delighted when
his cross-cum-shot was sent sailing over the head of
the home keeper.
Postal were looking particularly usefull down the
right hand side and South was linking well with
McDonald. McDonald brought out a great save
from the home keeper when he cut inside from the
Postal right and fired a great long range shot.
Postal were still being caught napping at times all
over the pitch and it was much to the annoyance of
the Postal bench that the team from the lower league
were looking sharper at freekicks, corners and shys.
Postal doubled their lead to put the smile back on
the managements faces with a great free-kick on the
Postal left from Summers and it was on-form striker
Buchan
who headed home.
Things were looking good for Postal at this point
although in truth Glendale could probably feel hard
done by, given the hard work they had put in.
They shouldn't have worried though, as Postal
decided to give them their Christmas in a crazy 5
minute spell just before the half.
The first goal came from a corner kick which was
played out of the box to the on-running Glendale
full back who was allowed to collect the ball
unchallenged. His resultant ball into the box
was pushed home past Smith to give the home team
some hope. An inventive move from Glendale but
you would have hoped Postal would have dealt with it
better.
The second goal came only two minutes later when the
Postal defence (who have been playing well recently)
were caught sleeping again. What seemed a
simple enough ball to defend down the Postal right
hand side saw the Glendale forward outstrip centre
back Patterson for pace and power and his resultant
cross was cut back for an easy knock in past keeper
Smith.
HALF
TIME – Glendale XL 2 - Postal ALC 2
The weather got worse
in the second half and, as it did, the game really
opened up. At one point it seemed as if both
teams had abondoned defending and every time either
of the teams went forward it looked as if they might
score.
Only some superb goal
keeping again from Smith, who is in great form at
the moment, kept Postal in the game at times
althought in saying that Postal also had chances to
take the lead.
Postal were struggling
to keep pocession now so with 25 mins to go, ex
Postal captain G.Patterson was introduced to the
midfield with Summers moving up front. This
had an almost immediate effect. Great work by
Buchan saw his run and cut into the box from the
Postal right rewarded when the ball broke to
Summers who blasted home from inside the
Glendale box.
Minutes later it
looked as if Postal had wrapped up the game when a
great lob, again by Summers, over the
Glendale keeper put Postal 2 up and see him score
his 4th goal of the season.
Postal again made life
hard from themselves though when poor defending from
both midfield and defence saw an unchallenged run
from a Glendale player result in a ball across the
face of the Postal defence, again easily knocked
home.
Glendale had a shout
late on when a shot crashed off the Postal bar but
the ref rightly waved the play on and Postal had a
one on one from McDonald which was missed.
Overall, not the
greatest performance defensivly and passing wise,
from Postal all over the park but it would have been
easy to let the heads go down at 2-2 and the lads
did well to dig in and grind out the result.
Well done.
Postal only made one change from the side which beat
Potterton 2 weeks ago with Turbine replacing the
missing Summers.
Postal started the game really well, kicking down
the slope, and were putting Kintore under a lot of
pressure with Wood and McDonald combining well down
the right hand side. It was a major
dissapointment, then, when Postal conceded from
Kintore's first corner kick. The cross was
missed by the defence and the keeper and actually
bounced off a Postal player and into the back of the
net.
To their credit Postal refused to lie down though
and scored a superb goal to get back in the game.
The passing leading to the goal was excellent and
the cross from captain Wood matched the build up
which resulted in C.Tubine,
unmarked at the back post heading past the Kintore
keeper.
Postal have been working on shutting down the
opposition lately so it was dissapointing when they
failed to clear their lines at a corner and then
failed to shut down the resultant shot from the edge
of the area which put kintore into the lead again.
Postal could easily have buckled against a Kintore
team full of ex junior players but, again, they
battled hard to get back on equal terms. A
corner to Postal was headed down by B.Patterson, who
had another excellent game at centre half, and
dropped to the feet of N.McDonald
to score his second goal in two games.
HALF
TIME – Kintore 2 - Postal ALC 2
Kintore had the
advantage of the slope in the second half and Postal
were really struggling to keep pocession.
Attack after attack from the home side was repelled
by the Postal defence and good work from Smith in
goal who had another superb game.
With it only looking
like a matter of time before Kintore took the lead
again Postal broke up the park and scored as good a
goal as you'll see this season. A through ball
to Bews was taken into the left hand side of
the Kintore box. He then used his trademark
cut back past the in rushing defender and curled a
great shot over the keepers head and into the
postage stamp. Smashing effort.
Kintore then pushed
more bodies out of defence in an effort to get back
in the game but Postal held firm and another break
away saw Bews again lobbing the ball over the
keepers head to give Postal some breathing space.
Buchan was used
in an unfamiliar midfield role today and had his
hard work rewarded when he sealed the game for
Postal with his 3rd goal of the season and Postal's
5th.
Kintore managed a
consillation goal with 3 minutes to go but the game
was over by that point.
Overall a great
battling performance from Postal and a result which
moves them up to 9th in the table. Well done
lads, great days work.
With it being 3 weeks since their heavy defeat to
University the Posties were looking to get back to
winning ways against a Potterton side who had beaten
them 3-2 earlier in the season.
Changes were made to the team with C.Patterson and
Ure dropping down to the bench replaced by McDonald
and Forrestor. Turbine and Mackie were also
welcomed back to the squad.
The first 15 minutes were fairly even but thereafter
Postal began to dominate, especially down the left
hand side where Thomson, Forrestor and Bews were
combining well to the give the Potterton right back
a torrid time.
Chance after chance went begging and Postal could
easily have scored 4 or 5 before the 40 minute mark.
The most notable chance saw Bews one on one with the
Potterton keeper and just when it looked harder to
miss the onform striker hit the ball wide of the
post.
With all their pressure Postal had to make sure they
kept it tight at the back and for the most part they
did their job well with very little chances falling
to the home side.
Bews
redeemed himself on the 40 minute mark when he did
well to turn and scissor kick a bouncing ball in the
box low into the keepers left hand corner.
HALF
TIME – Potterton 0 - Postal ALC 1
The second half went
like a dream for Postal as they soaked up any
pressure from Potterton and scored almost at will
when they went forward (when the ref ever let them
over the half way without blowing for offside, that
is).
Top scorer Bews
hit his, and Postal's second when a cross into the
box saw him unmarked at the back post and he knocked
the ball home easily.
At this point the ref
had a big decision to make when Buchan was sent
straight through on goal. The keeper came out
his box and blatantly stopped the incomming striker.
The ball rolled past the keeper and into the goal
but the ref had already blown for a foul.
Strangely the keeper managed to stay on the park
with only a yellow card being dished out.
The third put Postal
on easy street when the hard working Buchan
got a well deserved goal from an unselfish cross
across goal to the back post from Bews.
Bews scored his
hat-trick and 13th goal of the season with a great
shot into the Potterton postage stamp from a shot on
the left hand side of the Potterton box.
With the game sown up,
Postal sent on Turbine, Ure and Mackie for Buchan,
Forrestor and Summers. Almost immediately
Postal made it 5 when a cross from McDonald found
Cumming unmarked at the back post to head home.
Postal left the best
till last when McDonald scored a candidate
for goal of the season with a screamer from just
inside the Potterton half into the top right corner
of the Potterton goal. Woooooofffffff!!!!!!
Overall a very good
performance from Postal all over the park as they
continue their recent climb up the league table.
10/11/07 - University V Postal ALC
(North of Scotland Cup)
University 7 - Postal ALC 0
Whatever optimism Postal had going into this game
was soon quashed by a Premier League side on top
form. Postal came into the game with a largly
unchanged side to that which beat Lads Club.
Only the holidaying Mackie was replaced by Cumming.
To be fair, early in the game, although being pushed
back deep, Postal were defending reasonably
successfully and were also causing a few problems up
the pitch.
Keeper Smith was easily the man of the match for
Postal today and pulled off a superb save around the
20 minute mark when a point blank shot was tipped
over the bar athletically. The keeper was also
the victim of a bad tackle by the Uni number 6 who
was lucky to stay on the park.
The ref further infuriated the Postal line when
front man Buchan seemed to be pushed over in the Uni
area only for the ref (an ex Postal player) to wave
away the claims.
Postal gave away some cheap goals in this game but
the first was one of the poorest. A quick free
kick down the Postal right saw Postal sleeping and
the resultant cut back was knocked home past Smith.
Postal should now have closed ranks and keep it
tight but instead allowed the home side to open the
flood gates. Postal lost all concentration and
before the half was over conceded another 3 goals.
