The Postal line-up
on Saturday was decimated. No fewer than
12 boys were unavailable due to holiday,
suspension, work and injury problems.
Walder was drafted
into right back, G.Patterson was flown over from
Norway, ex Postal keeper Keith appeared as
centre forward and Ewan Stuart started as
trialist in midfield.
Credit then to
they guys for their first half display.
This was the proverbial game of two halves with
Postal arguably having the best of the first
despite going in at half time one down.
If the game was
won on corners, Postal would have been out of
sight. They peppered the AC goal but could not
break it down. A B.Patterson effort off
the bar, a Turbine header just wide were just 2
of the chances missed.
Mill Inn are not
2nd in the league for nothing though and just as
they did at Westfield with 5 minutes to go in
the first half, when they got their chance they
took it. The number 5 came up for a corner
from the back, was allowed to stand unmarked,
and duly headed Mill Inn one up. Extremely
hard on the boys who were working their socks
off.
HALF
TIME – AC Mill Inn 1 - Postal ALC
0
Unfortunately, one half was about all some of the
lads had in them physically. To be honest Mill
Inn also raised their game considerably and it's
questionable whether the first choice squad would
have dealt with some of their play. The number
9 for AC had a particularly decent second half.
The second goal wasn't long in coming with AC
exploiting slackness on the Postal right hand side.
The resulting cross was knocked home easily.
The 3rd was a header from a corner. Again,
Postal will be disappointed that they couldn't deal
with another set piece better.
Postal rallied and pulled one back. A shot
from Keith outside the box was deflected past the AC
keeper by
Scally
to give Postal some hope.
Unfortunately it was short lived and AC then rained
goals on Postal.
Turbine
managed a superb solo effort when he worked the ball
well down the right hand side of the park and lashed
a shot past the keeper. By this time it was
all academic and the big man hardly raised a smile
never mind a celebration.
Overall a fine first half performance is not much
comfort, but given the amount of boys missing,
perhaps understandable. Credit where it's due
also, Mill Inn upped their game second half in a
match they could have easily taken less than
seriously.
Relegation is now out of Postal's hands and all we
can do is wait on the AAFA decision on the Dyce V
LCA game and the result if this game ever gets
played (maybe we should have scratched today and
played it later when we had a team if this is the
new rules).
It wasn't this game that caused the problems though,
Postal should have done the business earlier in the
season and certainly should have done better against
Stoney 2 weeks ago. Only ourselves to blame.
09/05/09 - Postal ALC V
Stonehaven Athletic (League)
Postal ALC 2 - Stonehaven Athletic 2
Postal started
this game missing Ure, Macmillan and McKerron.
Cumming, South, Buchan and Wilson came back into
the squad.
Almost straight
from kick off Mackie had a chance to run at the
Stoney back line but couldn't make anything of
his initial strong running.
Apart from this,
the game started at a slow pace and Postal were
looking nervous with the obvious importance of
the points possibly playing on their minds.
They suffered another setback when Cumming
pulled up with a calf injury and was replaced by
Buchan.
The nerves were
eased though when a ball over the top of the
defence was controlled expertly by top scorer
Buchan who then then finished from distance
to put the Posties 1 up.
Postal again had
to make an early substutution when Mackie
damaged his ankle. Wilson came on to left
mid and Forrester moved into centre mid.
Postal were
possibly sitting too deep at this point and
Stoney missed a clear cut chance from just
outside the yard box when a Stoney
midfielder ran in from deep but his drive
luckily sailed over the bar.
The Stoney
equaliser was a fluke. Their number 8 sent
over a high cross and only Wiseman in goal for
Postal will know what he was thinking as the
ball sailed into the top right hand side corner.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Stonehaven
Athletic 1
Some frank discussions at half time seen Postal lift
their game and the 2nd half was much improved.
It was Stoney who took an early lead though, in
controversial circumstances. With apparantly 3
Stoney boys standing in offside positions a high
ball over the top of the defence was left. The
Stoney number 11, didn't hang around though and ran
through, collected the ball and knocked past the
keeper. South was booked for dessent after
complaining too much about the offside goal.
Much to their credit Postal pushed on and continued
to strive for the equaliser. Half chances to
MOM Turbine and Buchan were missed and a tremendous
drive from Greave was saved until Postal were
awarded a deserved penalty.
Buchan, with the ball at his feet, drove into the
box on the right hand side and was bundled down.
He picked himself up, dusted himself down, took a
couple of
steps.............................................................................................and
missed.
A lesser man/team would have folded there and then
but Postal continued to push on. Even left
back Scally was racing forward as if he was 10 years
younger forcing Postal on.
Postal were rewarded for their effort when another
ball over the top found
Buchan
again and this time he cooly slotted the ball past
the keeper for his and Postal's second.
With minutes remaining Postal were trying their
hardest to get the winner. McDonald found
himself one on one with the keeper but could only
knock it against the keeper's legs. A
strammash at a corner also seen a number of shots on
goal with B.Patterson's the closest to reaching the
net. Scally also had a header at the back post
which he could only direct wide of the post.
If the ref got the Stoney 2nd goal wrong, the luck
possibly evened itself out when Postal, pushing for
a winner, were caught on the break and the number 11
seemingly scored a 3rd for the away side only for
the ref to deem it offside. A very lucky break
for Postal.
Overall Postal will be dissapointed not to have
picked up all 3 points given the domination and the
chances they had. The chance is now gone
though and Postal must look to the last game of the
season, against AC Mill Inn, to get the win which
will hopefully secure their division 1 place.
On a sunny
Wednesday evening Postal faced up to a Mill Inn
side flying high in second place in the league.
Cumming and McKerron were missing so Ure and
Greave came back into the side.
The first half was
a fairly even affair with chances at a premium
and midfields dominating the proceedings for
both sides.
Turbine seen a
chance from around 18 yards bounce off the bar
and the big man again did well when he was
played in from midfield on the right hand side
of the box and unselfishly passed the ball to
Forrester. Unfortunately for Postal
Forrester screwed the ball past the post with
only the keeper to beat.
Mill Inn are not
in 2nd place for no reason and at times pushed
Postal back but to be fair to the Posties the
expected onslaught just never materialised and
it took a mistake from Postal to let them take
the lead going into half time.
A relatively
simple ball was played into the Postal box,
Scally was caught in two minds and failed to
clear. The resultant shot was only
partially cleared by the keepr and with
C.Patterson dreaming, his man ran in to collect
the ball first and knock it home.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - AC Mill
Inn
Mill Inn started strongly and were penning Postal
back without really troubling the keeper. But
it was Postal who equalised early in the half when
Turbine
scored with a decent finish from the 6 yard box on
the right hand side.
Again Mill Inn dominated for large periods and had
numerous corners and free kicks but it was Postal
who had the better of the chances.
Three times McDonald up front did well to get
himself one-on-one with the AC keeper but three
times he failed to score.
With the game looking certain to be a draw Postal
gave away a cheap free kick on the right hand side
just outside the box with a minute to play.
Postal defended it only to give away a corner.
With 30 seconds remaining, Postal failed to pick up
the Mill Inn number 12 and he headed the ball into
the net much to the disgust of the Postal team and
sideline.
Overall a failure in concentration at the death
shouldn't undermine what was a decent performance
against a team battling for the title. The
attitude was once again tremendous from the majority
of the boys. The football at times was also
decent from midfield to front and, for the most
part, the defending was controlled and organised.
Postal (and Sportsmans Club) must be thinking that
they can take something from the game down at Stoney
coming up soon.
On a sunny day
Postal travelled to Turriff for this vital
relegation encounter. Postal were without
Ure, Walder, South and Buchan but welcomed back
C.Patterson and J.Greave.
The game was
dreadful, to be fair, with football at a
premium. Postal started slowly and were
allowing Turriff too much free running off the
ball.
It was Postal
though, who were at least attempting to play
football when they did get the ball and took the
lead early in the game after a great ball from
the left, was sent over the top of the Turriff
defence and Turbine did well to control
the ball and fire home for his 12th of the
season.
Turriff thought
they had scored an equaliser when a through ball
to their number 11 saw him strike home from the
edge of the area. Fortunately for Postal
he was deemed to be offside. A decision
which was perhaps harsh on the striker.
If that decision
was questionable, the next was ludicrous.
Another cross field pass was sent into the
Turriff box and the on running Turriff defender
blatantly handled the ball to send it out for a
corner. Everyone on the park seen it apart
from the ref it seemed.
Turriff again rode
their luck when they scored their equaliser.
When a shot was blocked by Cumming on the edge
of the box the ball broke to the Turriff number
11 who stroked the ball home similar to his
offside effort. Questionable marking by
the Postal defence but a lucky break and a
decent stike it must be said.
This very poor
half petered out and it had the feel of a draw
waiting to happen if both teams didn't lift
theirselves.
HALF
TIME – Turriff 1 - Postal ALC 1
John Cumming had to come off injured which gave
Greave the chance to come on.
Thankfully Postal lifted themselves for the first 20
minutes of this half and concentrated on getting the
ball on the deck. Greave and Mackie in
particular were forcing Turriff back into their own
half with strong running and better passing of the
football.
The winning goal came when a strammash in the box
saw the ball finally fall to McDonald who managed to
poke the ball just over the line.
Stupidly, Postal now seemed to stop playing and were
sitting further and further into their own half
inviting Turriff on to them. Given their
league position this is perhaps understandable but
it's a flawed tactic.
Wiseman in goal did well for Postal from a few long
range efforts and Turriff forced a few corners
without really hurting Postal apart form one effort
which Forrester had to clear off the line.
Thankfully Postal defended well and took a valuable
3 points back to Aberdeen.
Overall, the result at this time of the year is more
important than the performance and Postal will be
happy to move one place up the table.
Postal followed up
their good performance from Wednesday night with
another resolute display against an RGU team who
had taken 5 off them a month ago.
With Forrester and
South missing from the team that faced Woodside,
Postal welcomed back Scally and McKerron.
RGU kicked off and
were immediately on the attack. For the
first 10 minutes, RGU hemmed Postal back but the
home side were defending well.
It was Postal who
took the lead against the run of play when a
through ball to McDonald on the left hand
side saw the striker beat the RGU offside trap
and he cooly drew the keeper and slotted home
into the keepers left hand side post.
Postal were now
playing higher up the park and causing RGU some
problems of their own. The second goal came soon
after the first when a McDonald corner seen
C.Patterson attempting to attack the ball in the
air only to see the ball bounce off the head of
an RGU defender and into the net.
RGU again forced
the play on and had a number of set pieces
before the half ended without creating any real
clear cut chances.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - RGU 0
To be fair the second half was much of the same.
RGU doing most of the attacking, Postal struggling
to keep pocession of the football but defending
well.
Wiseman in goal for Postal made 2 or 3 great saves
around the start of the half to keep Postal's 2 goal
advantage in tact and an amazing miss in front of
the Postal goal by the RGU number 10 showed Postal
were riding their luck.
With RGU going 3 at the back, there was always going
to be the chance that they'd leave themselves open
to a counter attack and that's how the 3rd came
about. Good work by Buchan on the left hand
side saw him run with the ball to the middle of the
park around 20 yards from goal. He then played
a neat one-two with McDonald
who again did well to beat the keeper for his 2nd
and 11th of the match.
A
good drive into the Postal box by the influential
RGU number 8 saw Buchan go to ground and looked to
trip the midfielder. To be honest Postal were
lucky not to concede a pen. That said, Postal
also had a possible pen denied when McDonald looked
to have been tripped.
The match ended soon after and Postal were delighted
to get the 3 points and another clean sheet.
Overall Postal were under cosh for large periods of
this match but defended really well, kept their
concentration all over the park and more importantly
took their chances when they were presented.
If we can take the commitment and attitude of this
game into the next 5 everyone at the club will be
happy.
A bewildering and
ultimately demoralising perfomance at Westfield
on Wednesday cost Postal the full 3 points.
What is even more dissapointing is that it
wasn't Postals performance but that of the
official in charge of the game.
From the beginning
of the match to the final kick of the game,
Postal were forced to hold back their tackles
for fear of giving away fouls that never were,
and forced to hold their tongues as the
decisions became more and more bizarre.
To their credit
Postal defended well and at times passed the
ball as well as they have done recently and took
the lead against the run of play.
A ball over the
top of the Woodside defence on the left hand
side of the field saw McDonald control the ball
and run into the box. With the Woodside
keeper probably expecting another few steps with
the ball, McDonald fired an unstoppable
drive high into the net. A great strike
for his 9th of the season.
Woodside forced a
large number of corners but in actual fact
Wiseman was rarely troubled and the half ended
with Postal in the lead.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Woodside 0
As expected, Woodside came out stronger and went
with 5 in the middle of the park. Postal were
handling the change of formation though and were
looking to get the second goal which would have
surely killed the game.
Unfortunately Postal gave away the equaliser around
the 20 minutes into the half. With the ball
breaking out to a Woodside player on the edge of the
Postal box, Mackie went to ground to clear.
The ref decided that the players studs had been
raised and gave a foul, much to the annoyance of the
Postal players.. To the Woodside players
credit, he struck a great shout beating the Posal
keeper lowa at his left hand side post.
The game could now have gone either way and most of
the time the ball was up in the air. No one
could have predicted the Woodside goal they got to
take the lead. A seemingly innocuous "squaring
up" of the Postal keeper to a Woodside forward, the
type you see all over the park throughout a game,
was spotted by the official who took his chance to
give Woodside a pen. The striker duly
converted.
This actuallly drove Postal on though and a great
through ball to Turbine saw the big man roll his man
expertly before he was crudely bundled to the deck.
Top scorer
Buchan
duly converted low into the keepers left hand side.
With about 5 minutes remaining Postal thought they
had won it. A stramash in the Woodside box saw
Turbine have a shot blocked before the ball fell to
Ure
who managed to kick home for the Posties 3rd.
With the game all but over Woodside found themselves
with the ball just outside the Postal box and when
Postal failed to clear their lines the ball was
knocked into the box where the Woodside number 11
found himself in a 50 50 situation with the keeper.
Wiseman looked to have the ball in his arms on the
deck when the Woodside player went for the ball with
studs up and, crashing into the Postal keeper, got
the ball and knocked home for the equaliser.
The question is, if Mackie's earlier challenge for
the visitor's first goal was penalised for studs up
why wasn't this challenge??? The match was
called to an end as soon as the centre was taken.
Overall, Postal can be happy with their performance
and their discipline in frustrating conditions.
Next stop RGU at home.
11/04/09 - University V Postal ALC
(North of Scotland)
University 5 - Postal ALC 0
Postal's North of
Scotland run was ended on a sunny day at Keith
Park. With 5 players missing from the last
game Postal had to pull in the services of ex
Postie Wayne Keith to give cover from the bench.
Postal more than
matched the Uni side in the first half with
midfielder Mackie showing signs that he's
getting back to his attacking best.
Unfortunatley it's no good the team having a
decent performance if we're going to sell 2 easy
goals as we did in the first half.
The first came
after 5 minutes when the Uni centre midfielder
ran from deep unchalenged into the Postal box to
slot past Wiseman.
The second came
when Postal were actually attacking a corner.
As has happened a number of times this season
one clearance and a Uni forward was racing in on
goal unmarked to double their tally.
Postal's best
chances came from set pieces. C.Patterson
had a free header inside the box which he saw go
past the post from a corner, and Postal had 3 or
4 free kicks from decent positions just outside
the box which were squandered without forcing
the keeper to make a save.
The half ended
though and Postal couldn't take advantage of
their effort to get back into the game.
HALF
TIME – University 2 - Postal ALC
0
To be fair to Uni, they went up a gear in the second
half and more than dominated the game.
The important 3rd goal came after 10 minutes when
Wiseman flapped at a corner and the ball landed on
the head of an unmarked Uni player at the back post.
Number 4 came when a cross from the Postal left was
not cut out and the waiting Uni forward knocked the
ball home from the 6 yard box.
Postal had a couple of chances before Uni got their
5th. C.Patterson again had a header sent past
the post and Ure had a chance but Uni scored the
last and best goal of the game when a long range
shot bounced under the body of the Postal keeper and
into the net.
Overall Uni deserved to win but Postal will be
thinking about what could have been if they could
have maybe kept things a bit tighter going into the
second half. The positive aspect from the game
was the effort that Postal put into the game.
Postal came into
the game full of confidence and with a full
squad to choose from.
The first half
started slowly and neither team was passing the
ball particularly well. Ure and Buchan
were pushing Postal on well from the midfield
but the final ball from Postal was poor meaning
that chances were few and far between.
Luckily for
Postal, MS never really caused Wisemand in goal
any real problems in the first half and although
they had a number of corners the Postal defence
was dealing with them well.
As the half went
on MS started coming more into it though and
their centre midfielder number 8 was
particularly impressive with some strong
running.
Postal took the
lead around the half hour mark. A Postal
corner was only half cleared and when Buchan
picked the ball up he did well to get one-on-one
with the keeper who unfortunately saved the
midfielders shot. Buchan could have
actually squared to Summers or Patterson but the
shot was on to be fair. From the resultant
corner C.Patterson found himself unmarked
in the box and he volleyed home for his first of
the season.
The first half
petered out with Postal in the lead.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - MS Utd 0
It was discussed at half time that the team who
wanted to win this game most probably would.
Unfortunately that team was MS as they stepped up
their game while Postal continued to play well
within themselves as per the first half.
MS attacked from the off and Postal struggled to get
out of their own half.
The equaliser came within 10 minutes of kick off.
With Forrester jockeying his man out at the corner
flag their seemed to be no danger but when the MS
player sent a cross in off the boot of Forrester it
looped over the head of Wiseman in goal. A
fluke goal but one which lifted MS further.
Postal replaced C.Patterson with Mackie. MS
were now on a high and the second wasn't slow in
coming. Mackie was caught in pocession just
outside his own box and the MS forward made no
mistakes in driving into the box and firing into the
Postal net.
Postal huffed and puffed but never really showed any
real passing football and the MS defence never
really looked in too much trouble. That said,
Postal thought they had got the equaliser when a
cross into the box was headed goalward by Ure and
cleared off the line. To the Postal bench it
looked as if it was at least a yard over the line
but the referee thought differently and ruled
against.
Soon after Postal gave away a pen. An MS
player drove into the box towards the by-line and
when Mackie went to ground the ref penalised him.
Luckily Wiseman did well to save the pen and give
Postal a chance going into the last 10 mins.
Much to the frustration of the bench, Postal
couldn't lift their game any further and when the
young ref blew his whistle with no extra time (was
it past his bedtime?) it was MS who took all 3
points.
Overall, one of the most disappointing games of this
season. MS were there for the taking but some
below par performances from some of Postal's better
players and some questionable personnel decisions
from the management saw Postal squander 3 points.
Luckily the big games keep on coming at the moment
with the North of Scotland Quarter this weekend and
a 6 pointer against Woodside on Wednesday.
Postal came into
the game in good spirits following their North
of Scotland win. Only two changes were
made. With Macmillan holidaying, Ure
started at right back and with Greave working,
captain Forrester came back into the side.
The first half was
a fairly dour affair but it's probably fair to
say that Grammar, shooting down the slope, had
the majority of the pressure. The
certainly had enough corners but very rarely
troubled Wiseman in goal.
Postal had
strarted the game with Ure at right back and
Cumming in midfield but soon swapped the two
when it became clear that Ure was better suited
to a more attacking role.
Postal had a few
slight chances. A C.Patterson header at
the back post was easily collected by the
keeper, a Summers shot from outside the box and
a Turbine shot from the right hand side, just
inside the Grammar box were the main ones before
Postal took the lead.
Forrester
collected the ball just inside the Grammar half
on the left hand side. His strong running
saw him get to the byeline and his cross was met
by Ure at the back post who knocked home
for his 4th of the season.
The action was few
and far between as the game turned into a battle
of midfields.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Grammar
Rovers 0
Postal struggled again to get any real cohesion into
their game and the ball spent a large majority of
the rest of the game up in the air.
Anxious to get their second win on the bounce,
Postal were possibly sitting too deep and were
inviting Grammar on to them. Grammar also went
3 up front at that point and Postal were definately
on the back foot but were defending steadfastly.
Again, Grammar had a fair bit of pressure but
Wiseman again never had a save to make.
Postal scored their second when a cute free kick
from Scally saw him play in Turbine on the Postal
left. Turbine did well to get his cross in and
Summers
scored his second goal in as many weeks with his
head at the back post.
This seemed to relax Postal and they began playing
better football. Grammar for some reason
started to kick everything that moved. A
decent Postal move up the right hand side saw Mackie
blatantly kicked up in the air. This resulted
in an injury and he was soon replaced by McDonald.
It was an inspired sub as McDonald
soon got his name on the scoresheet. He
managed to control the ball in midfield and pass to
Forrester. More strong running from the MOM
saw him cut across the defender and when the ball
broke to "Bunny" he knocked the ball past the keeper
for the winner.
Walder came on with 10 to go for Summers and Postal
saw out the game to leapfrog Grammar in the league.
Overall it wasn't a pretty game but with both sides
battling away for league survival it was never
likely to be. The Postal management will be
delighted to keep a clean sheet for only the second
time in a competitive game this season and the fact
that this is the first time since pre-season we've
put 2 wins together consecutively can only be a
positive thing. MS on Wednesday will be a
tough game again but Postal can go into it confidant
that we are creating chances.
21/03/09 - Bucksburn Utd V Postal ALC
(North of Scotland)
Bucksburn Utd 4 - Postal ALC
5
Postal travelled
out to Inverurie for this North of Scotland tie
with a changed squad from the week before.
G.Patterson, S.Ure, Forrester and McDonald were
replaced by Macmillan, Greave, Mackie and
Turbine respectively.
Postal were slow
out of the blocks and it was the home side who
pressed Postal back early in the game. Postal
had the wind at their backs but it was Bucksburn
who had most of the pressure and forced a number
of corner kicks before scoring the first goal
around the 15 minute mark.
The goal came when
Postal actually won the ball in midfield and
sent it forward but one long clearance saw the
Posties defence flat footed and the Bucksburn
number 11 raced through from the Postal right
hand side to lift the ball past Wiseman into the
top right corner of the net. Left back Scally
tried manfully to keep the ball out but couldn’t
reach it in time.
This sparked
Postal into life and they began to take more
control of the game.
The equaliser came
when good work on the left hand side of the box
from Buchan saw the midfielder tripped inside
the box. It was possibly a tad soft but he did
well to pick himself up and stroke it into the
bottom left hand side with a minimal run up.
The last 15
minutes of the half were all Postal but they
couldn’t get the ball into the net.
HALF
TIME –
Bucksburn Utd 1 - Postal ALC 1
Even though it had
been discussed at half time, Postal again started
the half slowly and were punished again for having a
high line. This time although the ball came from
the Postal left hand side it was an almost carbon
copy of the first. The Bucksburn player ran
straight through on Wiseman and the keeper could do
nothing to stop the ball nestling in the bottom left
hand side of the net.
Thankfully Postal
responded quickly and this time it was Summers to
score his first of the season after more good work
by Buchan saw his shot on goal look to be going into
the net before Summers made sure by blasting home on
the line.
Mackie was substituted
for McKerron with around 25 minutes to go and the
big man made an almost immediate impression. He
collected a kick out from the Bucksburn defence on
the half way line, controlled the ball on his chest
and volleyed a great looping shot over the
despairing keeper’s head to give Postal the lead.
McKerron was involved
again with the 4th goal when it was his
free kick which was flighted over the Bucksburn
defence into the box and the resultant over-head
kick by Summers was met by new signing Greave, and
he slammed the ball home for his first goal in
Postal colours.
Postal thought they
had sealed the game with 5 minutes to go when a
throw in by Walder on the right saw B.Patterson take
a chance to run from defence and cross into the
box. His cross was met again by Greave who scored
his second of the match.
With only 3 minutes
remaining Postal switched off and conceded 2 goals
in as many minutes. The first came from a cross
into the Potal box and when the first ball wasn’t
cleared Postal were guilty of being second to react
allowing a Bucksburn player to get to the ball first
to slam home. The second was a long clearance and a
poor header from C.Patterson directly into the path
of the Bucksburn number 11 who stripped the defence
for pace and finished well past the Postal keeper.
Luckily the whistle
blew before Bucksburn could mount another attack.
Overall the result is
always more important than the performance in the
cup which is a good thing because at times this was
lacklustre and un-motivated. Credit where it’s due
though, we are now looking a more attacking force
going forward and the last few games have seen us
creating a lot of chances. If we can stop the goals
going in and we get a half decent draw then there’s
no reason why we cant reach the Semis of this
tournament.
On a ridiculously windy day at Westfield Postal took
on Alford. With many of the guys away or
injured, Postal were forced to make changes to the
side. G.Patterson and C.Patterson were drafted
into the defence with Forrester coming back into the
side at left mid.
With the wind at their backs, Postal started
strongly and Alford were struggling to get up the
park. McDonald was the first to have a chance
when he had a one-on-one with the Alford keeper,
coming in from the Postal left. The keeper
made a decent stop though to foil the striker.
Summers was next to test the Alford stopper but his
shot rebounded off the keeper's legs and away to
safety.
Postal took the lead when a ball from G.Patterson
over the top of the Alford defence was met cleanly
by McDonald
who shot well past the Alford keeper to give the
Posties the advantage.
At this point Postal were under no real pressure but
shot themselves in the foot when they slackly gave
away pocession on the right and one long ball later
and a pass into the centre saw the unmarked Alford
number 10 coolly slot home past keeper Wiseman.
Postal got a deserved second when good work by MOM
Buchan in the box saw him force the Alford defender
into a blatant kick inside the box and the penalty
was awarded. Buchan
stepped up to the mark and sent the ball past the
keeper for his 11th of the season.
The amount of chances Postal were creating at this
point was impressive but the shooting unfortunatley
wasn't and they couldn't break Alford down again.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - Alford 1
With the wind now at their backs, Alford came out of
the traps quickly and Postal struggled the whole
second period to get up the park.
Alford equalised when Postal's C.Patterson lost his
man high up the park on the left hand side of the
park. The speedy Alford number 11 made no
mistake in reaching the Postal box and his cut back
was met by an unmarked Alford midfielder who shot
home.
Corner after corner peppered the Posties box now but
the home side were defending well.
Annoyingly a refereeing mistake cost Postal the 3rd.
What seemed like a legitimate header away was deemed
to be a foul on the Alford forward outside the
Postal box. The Alford number 10 stepped up,
and with the wind behind him shot an unstoppable
shot high into the left hand corner. A
smashing shot and nothing Wiseman could have done
but the foul should never have been given.
To their credit Postal rallied well. New
signing Greave came on and made an immediate impact
with some strong running and decent passing.
It was his pass into the box after a short free kick
on the Postal right which saw Buchan double his
tally by knocking home.
Alford had a goal knocked off when Postal again
found themselves too high up the park and the Alford
number 11 exploited the space again with good
running into the box and a decent shot.
Unfortunatley Alford had a couple of forwards
sitting on the Postal line offside.
Postal keeper also had a great stop high to his left
hand side.
Postal had a great chance in the last minute when
Buchan could have sealed the game but the chance and
the game went begging.
Overall the wind spoiled the game and a draw was
probably fair, but Postal will be kicking themselves
regarding the 2 schoolboy goals they gave away and
the amount of chances that were spurned.
Postal made three changes to the team that beat
Turriff. D.Fowley, B.Patterson and N.McDonald
replaced A.Smith, C.Patterson and M.Forrester.
RGU started the game the stronger team immediately
forcing Postal deep into their half. The
artificial pitch is by far the widest in our league
and the Postal were struggling to come to terms with
the width and pace of the pitch.
RGU scored within 10 minutes. A corner into
the box saw the RGU number 10 lose his marker and
bullet home a header past the Postal keeper.
Schoolboy defending at the set-piece which was to
set the tone for the rest of the game.
This spurred Postal on and some good work on both
flanks saw half chances fall to Ure and Turbine.
The major talking point of the game came when the
referee awarded RGU a penalty. A simple
throw-in from the Postal left was seemingly cleared
by Mackie but to both team's bemusement the referee
decided to award a penalty, claiming Mackie had
pushed the forward. RGU duly converted the
spot kick. A ludicrous decision when arguably
changed the game in the Uni boy's favour.
Soon after, Postal conceded a third, again at a
corner and again the marking was really poor.
Buchan
gave Postal some hope on the 40 minute mark when he
beat a few players moving from the Postal left to
the right hand side of the box and shot home from
just outside the box with a great strike.
Unfortunately Postal didn't learn from the previous
free kicks into the box and minutes later conceded
the killer fourth. The Postal keeper couldn't
hold the cross and the clearance only got as far as
an RGU player just inside the box who shot home,
again completely unmarked.
HALF
TIME – RGU 4 - Postal ALC 1
The second half saw the Posties huff and puff
without really troubling RGU. The home side
were passing the ball about well in midfield, were
moving off the ball well and defensively looked very
confidant on the ball.
They scored their 5th early in the half and
proceeded to get all their subs on.
To Postal's credit they battled away but RGU never
really looked in any bother. A few long range
efforts from Buchan, Summers and Patterson but no
real clear cut chances for the away side and the
game petered away.
Overall it can be argued that the crazy penalty
decision changed the game completely but if Postal
are being honest RGU were far the better side.
Postal never got close enough to close the ball down
and let RGU pass them to death at times. The
marking at set pieces also left a lot to be desired.
On the plus side, the effort of the lads couldn't
really be questioned, we need to put this one behind
us and look forward to our next game.
With a full squad to choose from, Postal made two
changes to the team who met Lads Club. Neil
Summers made his first start of the season up front
and Stevey Ure came in at right midfield.
Postal had a great start to the game when they
scored within 2 minutes of kick off. A good
build up saw the ball break to
Buchan
on the left and he shot home high to the keeper's
left.
Playing in a deeper role this week,
Buchan
doubled his and Postal's tally when a long throw in
from Macmillan from the right was headed into his
path and he volleyed home.
Postal's good start to the game continued and within
20 minutes the home side were 3 to the good.
Postal were awarded a free kick just inside their
own half. MOTM Forrester sent a long ball deep
into the Turriff box and leading scorer
Turbine
headed the ball past the helpless Turriff keeper.
This sprung the away side into life and they posed a
few problems to the defence before half time.
One notable chance came when Forrester had to clear
off the line at the back post. Postal held out
till half time though.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 3 - Turriff
Thistle 0
With Postal shooting against the wind in the second
half Turriff were managing to keep the home side in
their own half, although they weren't really
creating any real chances.
Postal made it 4 nil with half an hour to go.
A cross into the box from the left and side saw
Ure
unmarked at the back post to knock the ball into the
net.
From now on in it was one way traffic and Postal
always looked comfortable at the back.
Ure
made it 5 with another shot on the 6 yard line and
Cumming
scored the goal of the game when he collected the
ball just outside the box and coolly chipped the
Turriff keeper.
Overall a much improved Postal performance.
Attitude was excellent and football was decent.
Absolutely no complaints and if we can keep this up
for the rest of the season we wont be in the bottom
three for long hopefully.
21/02/09 - Lads Club Amateurs V Postal ALC
(League)
Lads Club Amateurs 4 - Postal ALC
0
What a difference 3 weeks of no football can make.
With exactly the same team as the one that beat the
Premier league leaders, Postal went from their best
performance of the season to their worse.
On a sunny, and un-seasonally warm day at Woodside,
Lads Club Amateurs had the game sown up within 20
minutes as Postal committed footballing suicide.
LCA scored with their first attack of the game.
Postal lost pocession easily in the middle of the
park and one through ball down the Postal right hand
side saw a simple ball played across the face of the
Postal goal where the Lads Club number 10 was found
unmarked to slip it past Smith. Poor marking,
poor communication, poor concentration.
Schoolboy defending.
The second wasn't long in arriving.
B.Patterson intercepted the ball just outside his
own box but when he dilly-dallied with the ball at
his feet, Lads Club's Allison was quick to dispocess
him and rounded Smith to double the lead.
You would have thought this would have prompted a
reaction from Postal but it just proved to push
their heads further up their arses and the third was
just round the corner.
A
cross from the Postal left into the front post
wasn't cleared and Allison was again on hand to grab
his second of the game.
Postal at least forced some of the game at this
point with a few corners and free kicks and even had
a long shot come off the bar which could have given
some hope but the game was effectively over when a
seemingly simple interception at the feet of ex
postal player Ramsay by Smith seen Ramsay steel the
ball from the keeper to knock home from a difficult
angle. Smith raged that the ball had been
kicked from his hands but the referee ignored the
stopper.
HALF
TIME – Lads Club Amateurs 4 - Postal ALC
0
The second half was embarrising. The poor
passing, mistakes and general
positioning/communication problems are possibly, if
not acceptable, then occasionally understandable at
this level of football but the lack of reaction from
Postal and acceptance of defeat without reply is not
acceptable.
Postal never let any more goals in but that was as
much to do with Lads Club poor play than Postal's
good play.
Overall, this report may seem harsh but
unfortunately it's not.
Only one, possibly two, boys could have looked
themselves in the mirror on Saturday night and said
they had put in as much effort as they possibly
could.
As poor as they were, Postal probably played the 2
or 3 best football moves of the game but
unfortunately at this level if you dont match that
ability with effort and workrate, as the opposition
did, then you can expect to walk off empty handed.
Bottom line is, Postal have now played half the
season and are bottom of the league, if we dont sort
out our inconsistency quickly we can expect to be
hoofing it in the 2nd Div next season.
31/01/09 - Cove Thistle V Postal ALC
(North of Scotland)
Cove Thistle 3 - Postal ALC
5
On a sunny, dry day at Cove, Postal delivered their
best performance of the season so far.
Postal made two changes to the side that faced Bervy
Caley. Mackie came back into the midfield with
Milne dropping to the bench and MacDonald moved into
right midfiled with Buchan replacing him up front.
Postal started the game shooting up the Catto Park
slope. As expected, Cove pressed the Postal
defence from the kick off but Postal were handling
the pressure well and were playing some attractive
football themselves.
It was Postal who took the lead about 20 minutes
into the game. A good sweeping move down the
Postal left saw Mackie send a low cross into Turbine
who slotted the ball past the Cove keeper.
Postal were looking comfortable at this point and
although Cove had a number of corners, it was Postal
who looked more likely to increase their lead.
It was annoying then that Postal gave away a simple
equaliser to the home side. A simple ball
through the Postal middle of defence could easily
have been cleared by C.Patterson but he misjudged
the weight of the pass and with keeper Smith never
getting to the ball the Cove forward nipped it past
him and into the goal.
At one-one, Cove increased the pressure and it took
a great save from keeper Smith from a Cove freekick
just outside the box to keep Postal level. The
ball looked to be heading into the top right hand
corner until Smith dived to beat it away. This
was another impressive performance from the keeper
who's handling was again impressive today.
Postal were continuing to play good football with
Mackie, Turbine, Buchan and MacDonald at this point
working hard. Postal's effort was rewarded
when Turbine
intercepted a Cove Pass and from outside the Cove
box he sent a great shot lobbing over the head of
the Cove keeper to send Postal in ahead at half
time.
HALF
TIME – Cove Thistle 1 - Postal ALC
2
The expected Cove reaction never really materialised
and shooting down the slope Postal were again
pressing the ball well and playing some fine passing
stuff.
They were rewarded when Man of the Match Turbine
secured his hatrick. Mikey Forrester started
the move with some great running with the ball.
His pass to MacDonald on the Postal right was
weighted just right and the resultant cross into the
box was met by Turbine who fired home.
At this point you would have thought it was Postal
who were leading the Premier league and with Cove
trying to get forward they were leaving holes at the
back which Buchan began to exploit. Postal's
fourth came when Buchan recieved the ball on the
Postal left. He then cut into the box, beat
his man before sliding the ball to Forrester
who slammed the ball home.
Cove started to get a bit niggly at this point and
were obviously not happy that they were going out of
the cup. The game up to this point had been
reasonably good tempered but it exploded when a
Patterson tackle from behind on the Cove number 11
saw the referee give a foul but the angry little
midfielder stupidly lasthed out and was correctly
shown the red card.
With about 15 minutes to go, Postal started getting
a little slack and gave away a second goal to give
Cove some hope. A cross into the Postal box
could only be headed away as far as a Cove forward
who sent the ball past Smith.
Things got a bit hairy for 5 minutes as Postal
obviously got a bit nervous but their nerves were
relaxed when Buchan
basically killed the game. It was his good
work, running at the Cove defence, which forced the
Cove defender to hack him down. Buchan took
the penalty and cooly slotted the ball low to the
Cove keeper's left.
With hardly any time left on the clock Postal gave
away a penalty when Scally was deemed to have
handled in the box. Cove duly converted but
the game was out with their reach at this point.
Overall, by far Postal's best result of the season,
but also their best performance of the season.
The football on the deck was excellent and the
finishing clinical. Improvements could still
be made in defence as you cant be happy to give away
3 goals but overall the Postal managment and players
will be more than happy to turn over the current
North of Scotland holders and current Premier league
leaders on their own patch.
On a cold and windy day at Westfield, Postal were
forced to make 4 changes to the team that faced
Stonehaven. Macmillan, B.Patterson, Buchan and
M.Forrester replaced the missing Walder, Mackie,
McKerron and Ure. Postal also welcomed back
Neil Summers to the squad after missing most of the
season through injury.
The first half was a fairly even affair, Bervy
possibly having the more chances, but with Postal
kicking into the wind it was always going to be a
struggle for Postal to get out and put pressure on
Bervy.
With Mackie missing, Postal lacked a bit of pace at
the back and it took until midway through the half
before they got to grips with the speed of the Bervy
number 9. On a number of occasions the Postal
defence found themselves too high and too flat
allowing the forward to be played in behind.
The first goal came when Postal failed to learn from
a Bervy chance just minutes before. A Bervy
corner came into the Postal box and a Bervy player
got a free header before Postal managed to turn it
out for another corner. Unfortunately the
lesson wasn't learned and this time when Bervy won
the first header from the corner it bounced off
C.Patterson's knee on the line, back to the Bervy
number 10 who made no mistake in slamming it past
Smith.
Luckily the Posties were in no mode to just role
over today. Against the wind they battled back
into the Bervy half and when Macmillan sent a long
throw into the box it could only be cleared as far
as Turbine
who steered a great long range effort into the top
right hand side corner.
Turbine had another good chance to make it 2 - 1
when the ball broke to him, this time inside the
Bervy box at waist height. The bigman did well
to get his shot in but seen it fly over the bar.
Postal had a couple of scares involving the Bervy
number 9. The first one saw the wee man get in
behind the Postal defence and only a truly
magnificent last gasp tackle by C.Patterson got the
Posties out of jail. That tackle was honestly
as good as a goal for the home side.
The other scare saw B.Patterson, under seeminly no
pressure at the back, dilly dally with the ball and
when the Bervy striker stole the ball from him with
only the keeper to beat Postal were lucky to see the
ball go wide.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 -
Bervy Caley 1
Shooting with the wind, Postal were optimistic that
they would be able to cause Bervy more problems in
the 2nd period but as it turned out, Postal were
probably more under pressure than previously.
Bervy scored early in the half to take the lead
again. Poor pocession play on the Postal left
saw them give away an easy throw in. The
resultant ball into the box saw the Bervy number 10
roll the Postal defender easily and slam the ball
past Smith in goal.
Again though, Postal rallied and got a bit of luck
when a
McDonald
corner from the left was caught by the wind and
sailed directly into the net at the back post.
The next 10 minutes saw the best Postal period of
the half and they now looked more likely to get the
third.
Postal captain, Forrester, had the best chance of
the game when he picked up the ball on the edge of
the Bervy box, did some great work by beating two
defenders and rounding the goalkeeper but
unfortunately seen his shot sail over the bar from 6
yards out.
After this, for some reason Postal were now mainly
playing on the break. Bervy were getting
forward at every opportunity and putting the Postal
defence under real pressure. Forrester had
another possible chance when he managed to beat the
Bervy defence and was going straight through on goal
when he was blatantly chopped down.
Unbelievably Postal never even got a free kick.
The game ended with Bervy on the attack but Postal
defended well and held out.
Overall a draw was probably a fair result and with
the pressure Bervy were putting on at the end of the
game Postal would have taken the draw but when
Postal look back on the chances they missed they
will be thinking they could be sitting with all 3
points.
27/12/08 - Stonehaven Athletic V Postal ALC
(League)
Stonehaven 3 - Postal ALC 1
With B.Patterson, Forrester, Mackenzie and Macmillan
unavailable to play, Walder, C.Patterson, Milne and
Scally came in from the Woodside game.
Postal started slowly and from the outset were being
pushed far too deep into their own half. Too
many times Postal were running with the ball, but
running into trouble and were finding it difficult
to keep pocession.
Postal had a scare when confusion between Mackie and
keeper Smith almost let in the incoming Stonehaven
striker.
Postal had a great chance half way through the first
period when Turbine managed to get a shot in with
the keeper out of his goal but a Stoney defender
managed to clear off the line.
Keeper Smith was doing well for Postal during the
first half and he was certainly the busier of the
two keepers with Postal midfielder McKerron also
putting in a decent shift in the middle of the park.
Just as it looked as if Postal had managed to get
away with their lacklustre first half they conceded
with less than 5 mins on the clock.
A
half decent ball down the Postal left hand side
caught Postal on their backheals the resultant cross
was met by the on-running Stoney forward who,
unmarked easily shot into the net. Question
marks over the Postal keeper would be harsh and
Patterson in defence will surely be putting his hand
up to lazy marking.
HALF
TIME – Stonehaven Ath 1 - Postal ALC 0
The second half was much of the same again.
Postal huffed and puffed but rarely troubled the
Stoney backline and again sat too deep.
Ure on the Postal left was involved in a handbags
flashpoint halfway through the half and the game
started to get a bit niggly.
Postal went two behind with 20 minutes to go.
Walder, on the Postal right did well to get back in
front of an onrushing Stonehaven striker but his
attempted clearance agonisingly sailed past Smith
into his own net. This was harsh on the Postal
utility man who had been having a steady game before
this point.
Postal took a chance at this point and pushed Mackie
up into midfield and Mckerron further forward.
Postal won a corner and at the front post Mckerron
got the final touch on the ball to head into the
net.
Postal had to push for the equaliser and thought
they had struck gold when Mackie did well to work
his way into the box only to see his shot go over
the bar. Milne aswell had a chance to equalise
but his shot from the right hand side of the box was
saved by the keeper.
Postal had left themselves short at the back though
and Stonehaven sealed the game when they worked
their way down the Postal left and their switch to
the right found an unmarked midfielder running in to
fire past Smith into the net.
Overall not the worse Postal performance ever but
lacklustre to say the least and, Mckerron apart, a
lack of any real quailty football on display.
Too many Xmas puddings and Xmas spirits perhaps the
night before for some of the boys but I dare say the
Stoney lads wouldn't have been angels either so not
an excuse. I'd fancy our chances at Westfield
but we have to get a run of games going fast to get
away from the foot of the table.
20/12/08 - Woodside V Postal ALC
(North of Scotland)
Woodside 2 - Postal ALC 3
On a cold but sunny afternoon at Shedocksley Postal
had their first game in 6 weeks. With Scally
away and Buchan injured. Postal welcomed back
Ure and Turbine. Mackenzie also came back in
to the midfield.
As per the Dyce game, Postal had the worse possible
start. With less than 3 minutes on the clock a
speculative shot from distance floated over Smith's
head in goal to put Woodsie 1 up.
Thankfully Postal responded well and equalised on
the 5 minute mark. Good work on the Postal
left saw the ball find Turbine
in the box who slammed the ball home past the
helpless Woodside keeper.
Postal were far the better team at this point and
looked as if they would score every time they came
forward, especially down the left where Ure,
Forrester and McDonald were combining well.
Postal thought they had doubled their tally when a
cross from McDonald on the left found Turbine
unmarked at the back post but the goal was deemed to
be offside.
Postal were starting to get a bit slack in their
shutting down of Woodside and were punished when
they failed to close down a Woodside midfielder who
unbelievably, again shot from distance looping over
Smith's head again into the net to take the lead.
Again Postal did well to come back though and this
time it was
McDonald
who equalised. A cross this time from the
Postal right found him at the back post and he
bulleted a header home to equalise.
Soon after, Postal were hit with a blow when
B.Patterson slid into a tackle only for the big
Woodside forward to fall on the defender's
chest. He was replaced by C.Patterson in the
centre of defence.
Mckerron for Postal had a great chance before the
half ended when he saw a header bullet off the bar
and Smith had a great one handed save to push the
ball over the bar but no more goals before half
time.
HALF
TIME – Woodside 2 - Postal ALC 2
The second half was largly dominated by Woodside as
Postal began to sit further and further back.
The good football they showed in the early part of
the first period was only seen in glimpses but the
defending was at least resolute.
Patterson was lucky to escape a booking early in the
half when a mistimed tackle floored the Woodside
number 5.
Woodside were now playing an offside game and too
many times Postal fell into their trap. On one
occasion Postal managed to spring it though and took
the lead.
Mackenzie managed to get to the bieline and his low
cross found
Forrester
who finished well past the keeper.
Woodside huffed and puffed for the rest of the half
and had a few half chances but in the whole Postal
defended well and managed to see the game through
and into the next round.
Overall a decent Postal performance first half and
although the second half was less than impressive
they at least saw the game through and never
conceded any late goals which has been a constant
bugbare this season.
A
goal in the first 5 minutes and a goal in the last 5
minutes for Dyce seen them take all 3 points in this
Division 1 North game at Westfield.
Despite Postal being asked to start well, it was
Dyce who dominated the first half. Dyce were
winning more than their fair share of the 50/50's
and the passing from Postal in the opening half an
hour was poor to say the least.
Dyce opened the scoring on the 5 minute mark.
Postal keeper Smith slipped kicking out a bye kick
and the ball fell directly to a Dyce midfielder.
His ball out to the Dyce number 11 saw him fly by
the Postal defence on the Postal right and bullet
his shot past the Postal keeper high into the net.
For the next half an hour Dyce dominated play.
Corner after corner was won as Postal allowed the
away side space to play without playing their own
usual passing game. That said, Postal
themselves had chances.
McDonald, making his comeback from suspension, saw a
shot from inside the box hit the post and a long
range effort from the same player saw his shot hit
the bar and bounce out to safety.
To be honest though, Dyce themselves had a number of
chances in the first half one on one with the
keeper. Poor finishing and some good shot
stops from Smith was the only thing saving Postal's
blushes.
Postal began passing the ball a bit better near the
end of the half but would count themselves lucky it
was only 1 nil at half time.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Dyce 1
Postal gave a much improved account of themselves in
the second half. Quicker into the tackle and
were dealing with the pace of Dyce much better.
Macmillan on the Postal right was particularly
effective in driving Postal forward and although it
left the occasional hole, the defence looked to be
coping a lot better.
As much as they improved in the second half, there
wasn't what you could call any real clear cut
chances for the Posties. A half chance to
McKerron and a trundler from McDonald was about the
sum of it until they got the equaliser on the 30
minute mark.
Macmillan
picked the ball up on the Postal right and his
cross-come-shot sailed over the Dyce keeper's head
into the net.
The game was now wide open and if anything Postal
were looking the team more likely to get the winner.
Just like the first league game against them,
though, it was Dyce who scored with 5 minutes
remaining to take all 3 points.
Postal actually had a free kick around the half way
line which was kicked to a Dyce player. Two
passes later, one ball in behind the Postal defence
and a shot at goal and the game was Dyce's.
Overall, there can't really be any complaints
regarding the effort and although some boys weren't
as good as they can be, no individuals had a
particularly bad game. It was just one of
those games where the quality of football just
wasn't up to scratch as a team.
One thing that obviously needs looking at, though,
is the concentration towards the end of a game.
That's 3 games now where we've lost the game in the
last 5 minutes through lack of concentration and
poor positioning.
Postal finally got back to winning ways at the
weekend and picked up a valuable 3 points away to
Alford.
Thankfully Postal are beginning to get players back
from injury and holidays etc and the good work
they've been putting in at training was showing in
this win.
Postal lined up with a similar side to the one that
faced Echt with Patterson dropping to the bench and
Forrester coming back in on the left of midfield.
Like most of the country the wind was blowing strong
in Alford and Postal started against the conditions.
Postal kicked off and immediately put the home side
under pressure by knocking long into the heart of
the Alford defence.
The first half was a fairly even affair although if
anyone shaded it, it would have been Postal as they
tried hard to keep the ball on the deck and pass
going forward.
Macmillan on the right of the Postal defence had a
particulalry good first half along with Mackenzie in
front of him.
Postal's first goal came from this right hand side
when a cross into the box was met well by man of the
match Buchan
who out jumped the Alford defence to head into the
net past the helpless keeper.
Some more neat passing play from Postal in midfield
saw Turbine straight through on the Alford keeper
but the keeper did well to keep the forward at bay.
Alford though were dangerous on the counter attack
and particularly quick on the break giving something
for Postal to think about at half time.
HALF
TIME – Alford 0 - Postal ALC 1
Postal went into the second half with the wind at
their backs but actually ended up playing less
football than they had done in the first half.
The ball just wouldn't go down and was bouncing
about in the air for most of the second half much to
Postal's frustration.
The wind actually died a good bit and Postal found
themselves being pushed further and further back
into their own half by the home side without really
troubling Smith in goal.
Thankfully Postal got the second goal around the 25
minute mark. A great inswinging corner from
the Postal left from Turbine was met at the back
post by
Cumming
who bulleted a header into the net from close in.
Postal had a couple of penalty claims when first
McKerron then Turbine looked to have been fouled
when running into the box one on one with the keeper
but the referee waived the claims aside.
Postal put themselves under pressure with 10 minutes
remaining when the Alford number seven collected the
ball on the Postal right just outside the box and
rasped a long range effort past Smith who could only
palm the ball into the net.
Thankfully the Postal defence held strong and saw
the game out although there were a couple of hairy
moments with the ball bouncing in and out of Smith's
hands on the six yard line and a clearance from
substitute Walder.
Overall a much deserved win for Postal who worked
hard for each other and continued to try and play
the ball on the deck. A much improved
defensive performance from the back four and a good
shift from the midfield onwards.
Postal exited the Scottish Cup as they played host
to Premier Champions Echt.
Any hopes Postal had of causing a shock were dashed
in the opening 10 minutes when the home side found
themselves 3 down. Echt, as expected, started
sharply and by the time Postal got themselves
organised and matched the away sides movement, the
game was over as a competition.
The first came when lack of communication from the
Postal back line saw half of them high up the pitch
trying to play offside while the other half played
the Echt forwards on. Echt duly punished them
for their slackness.
The second and third came soon after and a shell
shocked Postal were looking at a long afternoon with
80 minutes left on the clock.
To their credit though the home side knuckled down
and soon got up to the pace of the game. The
defence and midfield were now talking a lot more and
the passing football was the best Postal have played
all season.
A
possible penalty claim when Mackie was pushed in the
box was waved away by the referee and an acrobatic
effort from McKerron which went over the bar were
the only real efforts Postal had that might have
resulted in a goal.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - 3
Postal continued their good play at the beginning of
the second half and their passing play was
excellent.
Mackie had an excellent chance when he was sent
straight through on the Echt keeper from the Postal
right but he couldn't get the ball past the keeper.
During this time, Postal keeper Smith did well with
a couple of decent saves to keep the score semi
respectable.
A bizarre goal gave Echt their 4th.
B.Patterson was having a decent game at the back for
Postal but made a hash of a simple clearance in the
Postal box and his swipe saw the ball skid off his
boot and over the top of keeper Smith in goal.
Again, Postal could have eaily folded but battled
away as Echt turned the screw and more importantly
the home side continued to play the ball on the
deck.
Milne, Walder and Hill came on for Postal with 15
minutes to go and with the shape beginning to get a
bit ragged Postal conceded a harsh 5th when a cross
from the Postal left saw the unmarked Echt number 10
head home.
Overall, this was always going to be a tall order
for Postal against a team who must surely have
ambitions to go far in this competition. Make
no mistake, Echt were the better team and could
possibly have went up another gear but there
shouldn't have been 5 goals in this game and Postal
can be pleased with their all round attitude and
football played. If we continue to get the
ball on the deck and work as hard as we did today
results will surely turn around sooner rather than
later.
27/09/08 - Postal ALC V Beacon
Rangers (Association Cup)
Postal ALC 3 - Beacon Rangers 4
Postal were forced to shuffle the pack again from
last week with G.Patterson, B.Smith, J.Buchan and
A.Mackie coming back into the team and a first start
for S.Hill in goal.
Beacon are a league above Postal but it didn't show
at all in this game and Postal held their own in the
opening period. To be honest, Postal showed
the away side too much respect going into the game
and it was evident early on that packing the
midfield was causing Postal more problems than it
was solving.
Buchan was isolated up front and the Beacon back
line weren't being troubled enough as Postal
struggled to link the midfield.
The Postal backline has been breached too easily all
season and this game wasn't any different.
A
missed header in midfield saw the ball bounce into
the heart of the Postal defence who put up little in
the way of a struggle to let a Beacon Player knock
past Hill for the first.
The second came soon after when a cross ball from
the Postal right wasn't cleared by the defence and
the Beacon number 9 was lurking at the back post to
knock home easily.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Beacon 2
Postal changed formation at half time, pushing
Mackie into midfield and Turbine up front.
This seemed to suit Postal better and they certainly
looked to be more of an attacking threat.
Turbine
pulled Postal back into the game when a good move
between Mackenzie and Mackie sent him through on the
keeper. The big man was brave and got to the
ball first to knock past the keeper.
Similar to last weekends game, Postal pushed on and
really had the opposition on the rack when the roof
fell in again.
A simple ball from Postal's left to right saw an
unmarked forward in acres of space. Postal
claimed for offside but it was heaf-hearted.
Again as per last week, the shot hit the target and
into the net.
Concentration again all to pot, the killer 4th came
soon after. A bad clearance from the centre of
defence was knocked back over the top, again finding
Beacons number 9 who made no mistake with the keeper
in no mans land.
To their credit Postal battled away and
Buchan
gave them some hope when he did well to work his way
into the Beacon box and score and good individual
goal.
Man of the Match
Mackie
put the fear into the away side when a short corner
found him on the edge of the box and he drove home
for Postal's third. It was unfortunatley too
late and the ref blew the whistle soon after.
Overall, it's too easy to say that Beacon are a
Premier side and we did well to score 3. In
all honestly Beacon are not the greatest side Postal
will meet this year and we could and should have
done better. The effort and attitude can't be
questioned again, but the concentration levels and
will to win the tie was dissapointing.
Things are not going well at the moment for Postal
and although the attitude and commitment was top
drawer from all the players today, defensivly it was
another nightmare.
With the game swithed to a Grammar home game, Postal
arrived at a sunny Hazelhead with a half decent
starting 11. Scally, Milne, B.Patterson,
McKerron and Bews came into the starting line up and
it was all looking good for the opening period of
the game.
Postal were more than holding their own and playing
the better football of the two teams. Bews had
a chance disallowed and McKerron, Cumming and
Forrester were doing well in midfield going forward.
It's frustraiting, then, that bad concentration,
positioning and sharpness resulted in the Posties
going one down. With Postal on the attack, one
ball out of the Grammar defence wasn't dealt with
around the half way line, the resulting pass into
fwds was met by Patterson but, off balance, his
clearance only went straight back to the Grammar
midfielder. This time his through ball found
the fwd who shot expertly past the Postal keeper.
Again, Postal rallied, and were forcing the play but
it was Grammar who went in at half time two ahead.
A simple one-two on the Postal right saw a Grammar
fwd easily stride into the Postal box unchallenged
and stroke the ball home low to the keeper's right
hand post.
2
chances, 2 goals. When your luck's out, your
lucks out.
HALF
TIME – Grammar Rovers 2 - Postal ALC 0
Postal started the half well and fought their way
back into the game. A great cross by Scally on
the Postal left went in-between two Grammar
defenders and MOM
Forrester
nipped in between them to knock the ball home. 2 -
1.
Again Postal pushing forward, again soft goal to
lose. Postal lost pocession on the left and
the resultant through ball saw a Grammar midfielder
run through on keeper Smith unchallenged to stroke
home. 3 - 1.
The fourth goal from Grammar came almost
immediately. With Postal still reeling from
the 3rd, a Grammar ball in from the Postal left was
held up by a Grammar forward who knocked the ball
out to another Grammar man on the edge of the box.
His pass found a Grammar body unmarked in the box
who easily knocked the ball home. 4 - 1.
Postal could easily have folded at this point but
driven on by Forrester and Cumming, they rallied.
Cumming
scored
two
in 10 minutes and Grammar were on the ropes. 4 - 3.
Milne hasn't played much football in recent weeks
and was replaced by
Walder
who made an immediate impact. Some great work
on the Postal left, saw a low cross whipped across
the 6 yard line to find Walder at the back post to
knock home with only 10 minutes remaining. 4 - 4.
Postal were now flying and were still pushing
forward for a 5th. Unfortunately, a schoolboy
error was to deny them their first point since the
opening game of the season.
A freekick given away 30 yards from goal saw the
defence line up on their 18 yard line. With
C.Patterson looking in the other direction, quick
thinking from Grammar saw them take a quick free
kick. Patterson's man must have thought
Christmas had came early as he ran through on to the
pass and score to win the game.
Overall horrendous defending (from the team as a
whole, not just the back 4) was the reason for this
defeat. If you score 4 goals in a game you
should be walking off the park comfortable winners.
Positives from the game were the return off some of
our better players and the superb, refusal to give
up attitude of the guys who played today. If
this attitude continues and with more players to
come back hopefully there wont be too many more
dissapointments like this.
With Buchan, B.Patterson, S.Ure, A.Mackie, S.McBain
and D.Milne all missing from the last game against
Dyce, Postal arrived at Westfield with only 10 usual
outfield players. Assistant manager Hay was
drafted in up front and Mann named himself on the
bench.
Both teams started fairly slowly and not a lot of
quality football was being shown.
Glentanner broke the deadlock with a cracking free
kick from just outside the box. It was pinged
directly into the top corner of the net leaving
keeper Smith little chance.
Playing in an unusual centre midfield position
Forrester
was playing well and taking a lot of pressure off
the Postal backline with his strong running with the
ball at his feet. He was rewarded when a long
range shot was missed by the Glentanner keeper and
it squirmed under his body into the net.
As has much the been the case this year though, with
Postal looking comfortable, they shot themselves in
the foot. A short back pass from Patterson
still looked to be strong enough to make the Postal
keeper favourite. Unfortunatley for Postal the
Glentanner forward got to the ball first, rounded
the keeper and tucked the ball home.
Much to their credit Postal rallied and scored a
great equaliser. McDonald has been in good
goalscoring form and notched his 4th of the season
when good work on the Postal right hand side saw the
midfielder sneak into the box and put his header
past the keeper.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - Glentanner 2
The first half hour of the second half was fairly
even and was really anybodies game but with 15
minutes to go, the extra men of Glentanner really
showed.
Their first goal of the second half was fairly
simple fair. A long ball in behind the Postal
defence, an unmarked runner, shot, goal.
Postal quickly fell apart and there was little
responce as another 3 goals rattled in, in quick
succession.
Overall, it's possibly too easy to blame the lack of
bodies for this defeat. Postal, even with the
lack of bodies should have taken more from this game
and the attitude of the players too fold so easily
after the 3rd has to be questioned.
Postal turned up to Pitmedden Road in this Division
One North game with a decent size squad for the
first time this season. Ure and Turbine were
welcomed back into the starting 11 with new signings
McBain and Milne on the bench.
The first half was a fairly even afair although Dyce
possibly had more pocession of the ball at the start
of the game.
Postal were looking a lot more organised in defence
from the kick off with B.Patterson winnng his fair
share of headers. Macmillan playing only his
second game of the season at full back was also
looking sharp with Forrester playing his usual
composed game.
A
great goal from Dyce broke the deadlock though.
Dyce were always keen to get in about the Postal box
from midfield and it was one of their midfield lads
who picked up the ball on the edge of the box and
curled a smashing shot over the head of keeper Smith
into the postage stamp.
Keeper Smith went on to have a great game after this
point and he stopped Dyce doubling their lead with a
fantastic one handed save pushing a deflected shot
over his bar.
Postal settled back into the game though and ended
the half the better side and were rewarded when a
Forrester
free kick was curled into the box at pace. The
Postal forwards and the Dyce defence all missed the
ball and it bounced past the Dyce keeper to
equalise.
HALF
TIME – Dyce 1 - Postal ALC 1
This game was always
going to be a close one with both teams fairly
evenly matched and so it turned out.
Postal were being
forced back at the start of the second half with the
Dyce midfield flooding forward at every opportunity
but luckily Smith was having his best game of the
season so far and was keeping the shots out.
It was Postal who took
the lead when Cumming managed to wrap his
foot round the ball just inside the Dyce box to
watch it going over the Dyce keeper's head and into
the net.
There was still a good
half hour to go at this point though and given
Postal's recent defensive efforts 30 minutes is a
long time to defend.
It was looking good
though until 20 minutes to go when a decent run into
the heart of the Postal defence by a Dyce player
couldn't be shut down by Postal and his resultant
ball into the box was tucked away by a Dyce forward
with B.Patterson and Smith unable to stop him.
To both team's credit
they both continued to look for the winner and
unfortunately for Postal it was Dyce who got it with
only 4 minutes to go.
C.Patterson found
himself one on one, on the Postal left and allowed
his man to get his cross in too easily. The
resultant cross found an unmarked Dyce forward who's
sclaffed shot was knocked home by another unrunning
Dyce player to win the game.
Overall a much
improved performance but it's getting worrying how
many times Postal are disintegrating late in the
game. Lack of training and fitness must be on
the managements minds as it's happening too many
times to be coincidence.
16/08/08 - Postal ALC V Bervy
Caley (Stephen Shield)
Postal ALC 1 - Bervy Caley 4
Postal slumped to their 3rd defeat on the bounce and
crashed out of the League Cup on a sunny day at
Woodside.
With only 10 men showing up, Postal legend Willy Hay
was drafted in up front. Barry Smith also
started for Postal for the first time since the last
game of last season.
The first half was a fairly even affair with both
sides playing open attacking football. Bervy
missed a glaring chance at the back post after 13
minutes. Shortly afterwards a Patterson header
was cleared off the Bervy line.
At this point, McDonald for Postal was playing well
on the right aided by the hard running Buchan with
Mackie clearing up at the back.
It was Buchan who created Postal's goal when his
shot could only be cleared as far as Bews
who rocketed his shot into the back of the net on
the half hour mark.
Postal now looked the better side but couldn't force
another goal and the half finished with them one up.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Bervy Caley 0
It was always going to
be a big ask for Postal to win this game given the
amount of passengers they were carrying today but to
be fair they started the second half well.
Bews had two decent
shots at goal, one hitting the bar, and if one of
those had gone in it might have given the home side
some more hope.
Unfortunatley a moment
of madness from McDonald knocked the wind out of
Postal when he needlessly kicked out at a Bervy
player in the box giving away a penalty which was
duly converted by the Bervy number 8.
It was now backs to
the wall time as the Bervy defenders started
flooding forward to help their midfield and
forwards.
The Bervy second came
soon after along with the 3rd and 4th.
At this point there
was still 20 minutes left so credit is due that
Postal didn't totally disintegrate as they did last
weekend.
To add insult to
injury Buchan was red carded after a silly kick out
at a Bervy player right in front of the referee with
only 3 minutes remaining. Lack of discipline
is really killing Postal at the moment and it needs
to be sorted out quickly.
Overall the effort of
the players can't really be questioned today but it
was always going to be difficult with the amount of
players missing.
It's tough times for the Posties at the moment as
holidays, suspensions and injuries hit hard.
The management were again forced to name an
unfamiliar looking line-up with 3 out of last
Saturdays 4 defenders missing. Stevey Combe
replacing the injured B.Patterson, Ryan Low
replacing Scally and Walder replacing Wood.
Mackie and Cumming were welcomed back into the
midfield replacing the absent Mackenzie and
Sutherland who started on the bench.
Not really much excuses can be made regarding the
result, Woodside were definately the better team
over the 90 although for a large period of the game
it looked like Postal might get lucky and come away
with at least a draw.
Much to the annoyance of the away sideline, Woodside
decided to arrive just before 7 o'clock for a 6.45pm
kick off.
Woodside went straight on the attack from the off
and the makeshift Postal defence were struggling to
get organised especially on the right but a good
shift from Cumming kept things tight.
Woodside had two gilt edge chances on the 10 minute
mark when the first attaacker missed a sitter at the
back post then the second attacker missed one at the
front post.
During this period Postal goalkeeper Smith also made
a couple of decent saves.
Postal began coming more into the game around half
way through the second half and the midfield and
forward line were putting in a lot of effort at this
point.
Postal could have had a penalty when it looked like
a stick-on that the Woodside player had handled
inside the box but the referee (as per most of the
game) failed to see the infringement.
Postal were probably the happier of the two teams to
come off all equal.
HALF
TIME – Woodside 0 - Postal ALC 0
Manager Mann changed
things slightly in the second half with Mackie
dropping back into a back 3 of himself, Combe and
Forrester. Sutherland replaced Walder.
Initially it looked to
be working and Mackie was looking accomplished
mopping up behind the two markers.
Ten minutes into the
second half Woodside were reduced to 10 men when
Forrester was hacked down by a Woodside forward.
The Woodside player was rightly shown a straight red
(one of the ref's few correct decisions all night).
Forrester was heard to mutter the classic "I've got
work to go to in the morning" as the Woodside fwd
trudged off the park.
Just when the Postal
sideline thought they might be in with some luck,
Woodside scored. With Postal defending a free
kick from their right hand side on the edge of their
box, a Woodside player just managed to get his head
to the ball first. His backwards header was
then seen to loop agonisingly over the head of
Postal keeper Smith.
Postal attempted to
get forward as often as they could to get an
equaliser but the quality just wasn't there in the
second half and Potal continued to lose pocession as
often as they won it with passes going astray all
over the park.
The game at this point
was fairly even and neither keeper was under any
particular pressure. It was infuriating then
that Woodside scored a second from a free kick which
should never have been awarded just outside the
Postal box.
From the sideline the
kick didn't look as if it would bother the Postal
keeper, but much to the Postal dissapointment it
managed to somehow find it's way into Smith's bottom
right corner.
Thankfully Postal
never lay down as they did last Saturday and battled
on but any "goals for" looked unlikely in the second
half as the Woodside back 4 knocked the ball about
between themselves confidently.
Woodside scored a
killer 3rd with minutes remaining when one of their
players ran from deep with the ball and buried it
with a low, long range effort.
Overall, Postal
battled away but the quality just wasn't there and
Woodside deserved to win the game. The next
few games will be hard going until Postal can get
some more players "back" and "in". The
management will be hoping the boys can stick
together and grind out a few results with many of
them playing in unfamilliar and unwelcome positions
until then.
Painful to play in, painful to watch and painful to
write about. This about sums up Postal's
afternoon as they slumped to their worse defeat in 6
years.
Postal turned up to the game on a wet afternoon at
Woodside with more players missing. Injury
ruled out Milne from last week and G.Patterson,
South and Low were also missing due to other
commitments. Smith, Scally and Forrester made
their first start of the season, Bews returned up
front and Sutherland started his first competitive
game for Postal.
Believe it or not, the majority of the first half
was fairly even with both teams playing decent
football going forward without really troubling the
goalkeepers at either end.
It was Sportsmans who took the lead though. A
kick out from Postal's Smith into the midfield was
quickly knocked back over the top of the Postal
rearguard where the unmarked Sportsmans striker had
the easiest of tasks to knock past Smith. Poor
kick out, poor midfield work and poor concentration
from the defenders.
Two minutes later Sportsmans doubled their lead.
Captain Wood, on the Postal right, knocked a short
pass back to Smith which the Sporstsmans stiker
latched onto to knock past Smith. The pass
back was definately short, holding up on the long
grass at Woodside, but question marks must also be
placed on the keeper who should have been favourite
to get to the ball first.
At this point the Postal bench were still optimistic
that Postal would pull it back and indeed some nice
football from Buchan, Bews and Turbine going forward
for Postal was causing problems for the Sportsmans
defence.
Just before half time, though, disaster struck when
Wood slipped just outside his own penalty box while
in pocession. The Sportsmans forward took the
ball off him and unchallenged placed the ball into
the net for the third. To add insult to
injury, Wood had to come off injured with a
dislocated shoulder leaving him doubtfull for the
near future.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Sportsmans 3
It's not rocket
science to suggest that if Postal wanted to get back
into this game they'd need to keep it tight at the
back. Poor marking at the back post a minute
after the restart saw the game just about pushed out
of sight when Sportsmans made it 4.
Postal were now 3 at
the back and chasing the game but were given a
little bit of hope when Bews fired in his 5th
of the season from long range 10 minutes into the
half. This galvanised Postal slightly and if
they had perhaps gotten another it might have been a
different story but as the half wore on, Sportsmans
began dominating the Postal midfield.
Time and again,
Sportsmans bodies were being allowed to run with
nobody near them let alone any challenges getting
put in. Admittedly some of the players on show
for Postal today had no pre season under their belt
but most of the others were capable of much greater
effort and question marks will be asked regarding
mentality when being asked to put in an extra shift.
Once the 5th went in,
Postal lost what little belief or shape they had
left and it was shooty-in from then till the end of
the game. I wont even pretend to recount all
the remaining goals but 2 or 3 were excellent
strikes which keeper Smith had no chance with.
McDonald for Postal
was correctly red carded with ten minutes remaining
when he lifted his hands to the Sportsmans number
sixteen. This was as close to the Sportsmans
substitute as McDonald had got all second half so
credit where credit's due.
Overall, question
marks will be asked about Postal's attitude when
going behind but too many Postal regulars were
missing and too many passengers being carried to
take any real conclusions from this game.
Sportsmans are a decent side but even with so many
boys missing Postal should have had enough to give
them a better game.
FULL TIME
– Postal ALC 1 - Sportsmans Club 9 (nine)
02/08/08 - Postal ALC V Lads Club
Amateurs (League)
Postal ALC 3 - Lads Club Amateurs
On a sunny but sometimes showery day at Woodside,
Postal started their league campaign against ALC
rivals Lads Club Amateurs.
The Postal squad was decimated with C.Patterson,
Ure, Mackie, Cumming, Forrester, Bews and Smith all
unavilable for selection. Postal welcomed back
ex captain Greig Patterson, Ryan Low made his
competitive debut, Russel Milne played in goals and
manager Gary Mann was drafted in to play up front.
As is sometimes the case with derby games the
quality on display wasn't great. The ball was
up in the air too much and not a lot of football was
getting played by either squad.
Postal started the game the better team and
dominated the opening 15 minutes. It was LCA
who took the lead though scoring against the run of
play much to the delight of their sideline.
The ball had broken to them when a clearance from
McDonald bounced off an LCA player and into the
Postal box, Postal couldn't clear their lines and
the LCA number 5 struck the ball home.
This made LCA play a lot better and the next 20
minutes were probably theirs which was ironic given
that Postal took the lead during this period.
The equaliser came when McDonald
found himself unmarked just inside the LCA box and
struck home low to the goalkeepers right hand side.
Five minutes later Postal took the lead when Turbine
controlled an up and under from the Postal defence
in the LCA six yard box. His low shot had too
much power for the LCA keeper and he fired Postal
into the lead going off at half time.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - Lads Club Amateurs 1
Low was struggling
with an injury for most of the game in the Postal
midfield and as the game went on LCA began to
dominate. Postal struggled to get any football
played and were being forced deeper into their own
half as the second period went on.
For all their effort
though, Postal goalkeeper Milne was hardly worked as
the Postal defence held firm. Excellent
workrate by Ivor Mackenzie for Postal also stunted
the progress of ex Postal player Ramsay on the
right.
Postal sealed the
points with 15 minutes to go when a long thrown in
was knocked on by B.Patterson and the on running
Buchan (who had been box to box all day) bulleted
home a header to clinch the game.
Overall Postal can
play better but with the amount of players missing
and the derby game conditions Postal can be
delighted with the result.
Postal lined up with an unusual line up as they
looked to play some of the guys who might be
starting on Saturday.
As could have been expected the performance wasn't
great as the players adjusted to their new positions
and colleagues.
Postal took the lead against the run of play when
Turbine
fired in a good shot from the right hand side of the
box which was deflected home by a Glendale Youth
defender.
The Postal 3 man defence was struggling to cope
though and Glendale equalised when keeper Forbes
dropped the ball right at the Glendale forwards foot
who knocked home easily. Glendale then took
the lead with more slack defending from Postal.
Bews
equalised for Postal just before half time when he
collected the ball on the left hand side of the
Glendale box and cooly slotted home.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - Glendale Youth 2
Postal took on 3 subs
at half time with C.Patterson, S.Ure and M.Forrester
entering proceedings.
Postal played better
in the second half but never reached the heights of
the Cammach and Halliburton games.
The half was pretty
even and Glendale would be dissapointed to lose the
game although Buchan's long range strike for
Postal was good enough to win any game.
Overall the management
will be dissapointed with the performance although
it was a good chance to see some new players and try
some different formations.
Another decent performance from the Posties saw them
notch up their second win of the pre-season build
up.
On a scorching day at Woodside Postal took the
chance to try out some new players. Walder
started at right back, Milne at left back and the
returning Bews slotted back in, up front.
Keeper Smith is still on holiday and Forbes couldn't
make it so Postal legend Wayne Keith took to the
sticks.
Postal started slower than they did on Monday night
and Cammachmore were providing a stiffer test in
midfield. In saying that keith was never
really in any danger in the fist half and goals from
Bews (2) and
Buchan (1)
sent the home side in comfortable.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 3 - Cammachmore 0
Postal shuffled about
in the second half and with the sun beating down and
Wednesday night's efforts at the sand dunes possibly
taking it's toll the homeside were pegged back more
than they would have liked.
A couple of silly
errors from Keith and C.Patterson gave Cammach some
hope but with 5 minutes remaining, Bews
sealed his hat trick and Postal's 4th to all but end
the game.
Overall another decent
work out with some decent football played in
midfield and up front and good to see the two new
boys fitting in. Cammach are 2nd Division
opposition but no mugs so 4 - 2 lifts the optimism
again going into the last friendly and the first
game on Saturday.
Postal won their first pre-season friendly in
convincing fashion at a sunny Woodside on Monday
night.
With Smith on holiday, Postal started with Forbes in
goal.
Considering this was Postals first real touch of the
ball this season having concentrated mostly on
stamina work at training they looked fairly good on
the ball. Turbine and Buchan looked sharp up
front, Mackie looked in the mood in midfield and
Forrester looked accomplished the whole game on the
left.
Goals from
Turbine and Buchan
sent the posties in 2 nil in front.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - Halliburton 0
More goals from
Postals Turbine, Mackie, Ure and Cumming (2)
saw Postal win their first pre season friendly of
season 08/09.
Overall a good work out for the Posties with debuts for
Campbell up front and Forbes in goal.
