Postal arrived at Woodside with a decimated squad.
With only 10 players available, manager C.Patterson
took his place in the defence with W.Hay the only
sub on the bench.
Both teams are battling against relegation and the
game was always going to be a close one.
Neither team played particularly well but both were
showing a decent willingness to win the game.
Postal probably had the better of the first half
with the corner count showing this.
B.Patterson had two decent chances to score from
these set pieces but both times could only head over
the bar.
J.Buchan
again showed his worth to Postal when Postal
eventually scored from one of their many corners.
He met the ball at the front post and his backward
header sailed over the line although a defender
tried to launch it clear.
Postal had a few scares but keeper Wiseman did well
and D.Wood playing in an unfamiliar left back role
was also having a good game.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Johnshaven 0
Postal must be wishing they didn't have to stop for
half time. Not for the first time this season,
when they came out after the break they seemed to
have lost their momentum and straight from the kick
off were being pushed back by Johnshaven.
Johnshaven scored their equaliser on the 50 minute
mark when a simple long ball down the Postal left.
The Johnshaven number 10 collected the ball, skipped
down the line unchallenged and when he finally cut
inside had an easy task of knocking it back to the
on running number 14 to knock into the Postal goal.
Slack defending from Postal but not unexpected given
their slow start to the half.
Like so many games at the moment Postal had plenty
of fight and matched Johnshaven for effort but going
forward showed a lack of imagination and correct
decision making.
One chance Postal had saw Turbine in on goal from
the Postal left unmarked. With only the keeper
to beat he could only knock it wide.
Postal were shouting for a pen when it seemed that
Mackie had been tripped inside the box. The
referee saw it differently though and waved play on.
Postal's MacDonald was disappointed when a free kick
from just outside the 18 yard box pinged off the
bar.
In almost the next attack and with only 2 minutes
left Postal again gifted a late winner. When
the Johnshaven player picked up the ball on the
Postal left, his cross didn't look to be a problem
but the Postal disappointment was matched only by
the Southern team's joy as it sailed over Wiseman
and into the net. Slack play to allow him to
get the cross in but the Postal keeper will be
disappointed with his positioning after playing so
well for the majority of the game.
Overall, what can you say about our luck at the
moment? It's true what they say though, you
make your own luck and the only way Postal can hope
to turn this around with only 4 games left is to
work hard at it.
Postal started this game really well. They pounded
the Westend goal throughout the first 30 minutes of
this match and looked as if they could score every
time they came forward.
Within the first 15 minutes J.Buchan
had scored twice for the Posties and everything was
looking good. Both came from ball into the
Westend 6 yard box where both the keeper and centre
backs looked to be vulnerable to high crossed balls.
Unfortunately two lapses in concentration at the
back and all their good work was undone before half
time. The first came from a corner kick where
an unmarked Westend player was allowed to head home
unchallenged. The second came when a slack
pass back from Macmillan saw keeper Wiseman attempt
to smother the ball but ultimately bringing down the
Westend forward.
HALF
TIME – Westend 2 - Postal ALC 2
The second half was fairly even. Neither team
generating many clear cut chances although both
teams attempting to get forward. Unfortunately
for Postal, Westend seemed to sort out their
defensive frailties of the first half and Postal
rarely threatened in the second half.
With the game going into the last 2 minutes the
score looked likely to be a draw.
Unfortunately when your lucks out, it's out and when
a Westend player picked up the ball just outside the
Postal area, nobody closed him down quickly enough
and he struck the ball home for the winner.
Overall really disappointing result given the good
effort, pocession and first half dominance.
The lone and the short of it is though that Postal
have conceded too many late goals this season and
need to sort out concentration levels if they hope
to stay in the league.
On a sunny but windy day at Woodside, Postal started
with the same side as Wednesday night.
Postal started the game really well and had Bervy on
the back foot from the start of the game. A
number of corners to Postal early in the game nearly
resulted in a goal from one of them when B.Patterson
headed against the bar.
The rest of the half was fairly even, Postal were
playing better football than they have done in the
last couple of games but neither keeper was being
worked too hard.
It was Bervy who took the lead though. Postal
gave the ball away too easily out wide and when the
Postal keeper dropped the ball from the resultant
cross the Bervy number 6 was on hand, unmarked to
knock the ball home. A tad unfair on Postal
but lapses in concentration when you're at the wrong
end of the table tend to be punished.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Bervy Caledonian 1
Postal started the second half positively and
dominated proceedings for most of the half.
Although they were dominating pocession, the
equaliser wasn't coming though so Postal changed to
three at the back and threw on Neil McDonald up
front.
Almost immediately it paid dividends. McDonald
picked the ball up on the left and raced through on
goal. After cutting inside he then fired his
shot past the Bervy keeper.
Soon after McDonald had an almost identical chance
but the keeper managed to knock the ball wide,
although the ref gave a bye kick.
Postal now had their danders up and were pushing on
to get the winner. Captain Patterson had a
chance just before going off injured. He
picked the ball up in the box and managed to create
some space for a shot but it was too weak to trouble
the keeper.
For the next 10 minutes the match swung back in
favour of Bervy and Postal were struggling to get
out of their own half. Their troubles were
compounded when Macmillan was sent off for a rash
challenge near the Postal by line.
Postal almost snatched victory in the last minute
when a cross into the box saw the ball drop to
Mackie but the keeper made a great save to send the
ball round the post.
Overall, a much improved performance from Postal
today. Commitment was there and football was
much better especially in the second half. If
we play this way in our remaining 6 games we'll win
more points than we drop.
Postal basically continued where they had left off
on Saturday in this Wednesday night game at a sunny
Findon. The hard pitch was playing it's part
but Postal were poor going forward tonight.
That said Geldie weren't setting the heather alight
either and with Postal's defence looking tight at
the back it always looked as though a mistake would
win it.
Postal actually managed to get behind the Geldie
defence a couple of times in the first half as they
were caught square but the keeper was never really
troubled.
HALF
TIME – FC Geldie
0 -
Postal ALC 0
Postal dominated the second half for all but 5
minutes. Unfortunately it was during this 5
minute period that Geldie took their chance to score
the winner.
With Postal sending bodies up the park they were
caught on the break and when the Geldie forward
picked the ball up on the right hand side of the
Potal box he duly converted past Wisman.
Too many times today Postal made the wrong decisions
going forward. Balls that should have been hit
long were hit short, too many passes over the top
when the easy option was on, balls passed left when
they should have gone right etc etc.
Postal did have chances in the second half.
Mathers found himself one on one with the keeper and
when he tried to round the stopper Postal thought
they had a good shout for a pen. In fairness
it would have been soft and the midfielder should
have done better.
Next up was McDonald. With the score at 1-0,
and going into the last 5 minutes he found himself
with only the keeper to beat. Unfortunately he
fired straight at the keeper.
Buchan had Postal's last chance of the game when a
good ball from the left was knocked into the box he
missed an easy header which would have drawn the
game.
Overall, Postal dominated for large swathes of the
game but football is largly about decision making
and on too many occasions Postal made the wrong
ones.
Bad news for Postal is that this now takes us deep
into relegation territory, good news is the attitude
is still good and the football will surely pick up
soon.
Postal started this game really slowly. It
took them 10 minutes to get themselves organised to
combat the Glendale midfield shape and in the
meantime lost the only goal of the game.
Postal had discussed setpieces before the game but
when a cross came in from the Postal right hand side
they failed to meet the ball first and when the
number 8 at the front post flicked the ball on it
was met by a Glendale player who struck the ball and
it unfortunately bounced off another Glendale
player's back and into the goal.
The rest of the half was a fairly even affair.
Neither team was playing particularly well and
neither goalkeeper had a great deal to do.
HALF
TIME – Glendale 1 -
Postal ALC 0
The second half was much of the same. Both
teams basically cancelling each other out.
That said, both teams had good shout s for penalties
and Postal were probably the luckier of the two
sides with the ref getting most of the big shouts
wrong.
Postal huffed and puffed for the rest of the game
but the final ball at times was shocking. Too
many times it couldn't even get over the first
Glendale defender's head and with a lack of
imagination, the beg Glendale centre's were mopping
most things up.
A
poor decision by the referee sent a Glendale player
off for a second booking in the last 5 minutes of
the game.
Overall, Postal's attitude and application again
couldn't be questioned but the quality going forward
just wasn't on show today.
Postal welcomed Mackie and Ure back into the team as
they lined up against the champions elect.
Woodside have been flying this season and it was
clear to see why. From back to front they have
attacking capability but Postal were dealing with
the threat fairly well.
The first goal came from the Postal left. The
Woodside number 11 collected the ball, ghosted past
Ure, playing in an unfamilliar left back roll, and
passed the ball from distance into the net. A
good finish from the right winger.
Buchan had a free kick just outside the box which he
seen beat the keeper all ends up but unfortunately
for Postal it slammed off the bar.
The second Woodside goal was poor from Postal's
point of view. Under little or no pressure at
the back, Postal contrived to give away a corner
kick. From the resulting corner, Wiseman
attempted to punch clear but only got as far as the
unmarked number 4 who fired home.
The third goal of this game was always going to be
the most important and although Bruce seen a decent
effort from distance ping off the bar again it was
Woodside who scored next. This was another
slack goal from Postal with marking poor and
sharpness worse as Woodside split the back 4 open
allowing the Woodside forward a one on one chance
against Wiseman which he converted.
HALF
TIME – Woodside 3 - Postal ALC 0
Postal hadn't been playing too badly in the first
half and continued attempting to play football in
the second half. Wood and Mathers in
particular were getting a lot of joy down the right
hand side.
Unfortunately Postal couldn't convert their good
play into goals until the last 10 minutes of the
match.
The first Postal goal came when a good run from
Forrester seen him unleash a fierce shot from
distance. The keeper could only parry the ball
out to J.
Buchan
and the midfielder did well to finish.
Postal's second came when a through ball found
Darren
Buchan
through on the keeper and he managed to beat the
keeper to the ball and knock home to set up a
grandstand finish.
Postal attacked the Woodside defence for the
remainder of the game but it was too late and
Woodside seen the game out to take all 3 points.
Overall, Postal will have been dissapointed not to
take a point from this game but it was always going
to be difficult against the top of the league never
mind giving them a 3 goal start. Commitment
and Attitude, again couldn't be questioned though.
The last time Postal put together back-to-back wins
was mid Aug so a win today was well overdue.
With Stevey Mathers and Mackie missing from last
weeks line up, Postal were struggling again for
bodies and called in the services of D.Buchan and
W.Keith onto the bench with manager C.Patterson
moving into centre midfield and Wiseman taking his
place back in goal.
The rain and snow in the proceeding days meant for a
heavy pitch and neither team really succeeded in
getting the ball moving on the deck.
To be fair though, the home side were doing most of
the attacking but the back 4 of Postal did
particularly well today and were more than equal to
all that Burghmuir through at them.
Postal scored on the counter attack with a great
goal. Patterson collected the ball in the
midfield, played it up front to Turbine
and the big man turned and curled the ball over the
keepers head from more than 20 yards out. Magic
finish from the big front man.
The game was very open now although the quality of
both team's performances weren't particularly
impressive. Both teams had a series of corners
and set pieces and it was from one of these that
Postal scored their second. The ball into the
box eventually found the feet of J.Buchan
who kept his composure to strike the ball home from
the edge of the 6 yard box.
Postal thought they had scored a third when a set
piece into the box saw Buchan get his head to the
ball in front of the keeper. Patterson then
knocked the ball home only to see the ref blowing
his whistle for a foul on the keeper.
HALF
TIME – Burghmuir 0 - Postal ALC 2
The second half continued in much the same vein as
the first. Burghmuir doing more of the
attacking but causing very little problems to the
comfortable Postal back 4 and goalkeeper.
Although never in the game plan, Postal ended up
attacking mainly on the counter with too many balls
getting hit long and hopeful. That said, it
was from one of these attacks that Bruce found
himself running in on the keeper but his shot was
taken a bit early and the chance missed.
Forrester was replaced mid way through the half by
Buchan and it was a cute through ball to Bruce
which on the left which again saw the big man one on
one with the keeper and this time he made no mistake
in dispatching well to seal the game for the
Posties. Another good finish for his third of
the season.
Turbine had a good chance for his second when he
collected the ball in the box to the right of the
goal but his shot sailed over the bar.
Annoyingly, Postal conceded a late goal in the last
minute of the match. A free kick from the
Postal right found the unmarked Burghmuir number 11
on hand to knock home.
Overall a stuffy performance from Postal on a pitch
where silky football was never going to be on the
cards. Credit though, the defence were
particularly concentrated today and the front men
took their goals well in a match which was always
going to be sticky against a team fighting for every
point they can get at the moment. Well done
lads.
Postal took to the field with the odds firmly
stacked against them on a sunny day at Woodside.
With Westend flying high in second place in Div 1
East Postal had a depleted squad with no keeper and
at least 3 of the team suffering from sickness and
flu bugs. Thankfully a late fitness test to
captain G.Patterson seen him take his position in
the centre of defence.
What a difference a week makes and after the debacle
of last week, Postal's attitude and application
could never be questioned today. They
dominated the first half, and straight from the
beginning of the game they went on the attack.
Goonan, starting his first game back for the
Posties, was winning a lot of balls in the air
allowing Buchan and Mackie to move forward.
Buchan in particular was causing Westend a lot of
problems attacking from the midfield.
Postal had a great chance when Buchan played an inch
perfect pass into the feet of McDonald up front who
found himself raising in on the keeper but the
striker couldn't convert.
Westend gave Postal a couple of scares with their
pace and got in behind the Postal defence on a
couple of occasions in the first half without
causing goalkeeper Bruce any problems.
Postal took the lead when a cross from the Postal
left was met by S.Mathers
who somehow managed
to get his head under the ball to loop his header
over the keepers head and into the net. A tad
lucky but the midfielder did well to get into the
position to get his head on the ball.
Amazingly Postal got another spot of luck when a
long ball into the box from J.Buchan
bounced in the box and the wind caught it and again
took it over the keepers head again.
Buchan had a chance to make it 3 - 0 when he skipped
past a number of defenders in the box but the keeper
did well to smother the ball at his feet before he
could shoot.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - Westend 0
With full back Macmillan feeling the effects of the
flu, Postal were forced to move Bruce out of goal
and upfront, pulling McDonald back to midfield and
Forrester back to left back.
This seemed to disrupt Postal's rhythm and for the
opening 10 minutes they were forced back deep into
their own half and conceded a number of corners
allowing Westend to pull one back from one of their
efforts. The Westend number 16 lost his marker
at the cross to head home unchallenged.
Soon after Goonan felt unwell and had to be replaced
by C.Patterson in the defence.
With the wind at their backs Westend had probably
the most of the second half attacks and Postal were
struggling to get out of their own half.
Buchan and Mackie were also receiving a lot of heavy
tackles in the second half as the second top of the
league side had obviously pointed them out for some
"close marking".
It was Postal though who scored the all important
4th goal in this game. Bruce
collected the ball on the Postal right hand side and
his cross into the box sailed, once again, over the
keepers head and into the net. The
keeper/striker will surely claim he seen the Westend
stopper off his line.
Westend had two good chances from the Postal left
after this when they found a player one on one with
the Postal keeper but both times they fired wide
without testing Macmillan.
It now looked likely that Postal would win the game
comfortably but when a cross into the box from the
Postal right was nodded on at the front post the
ball landed at the unmarked Westend number 15 was
fired home to give Postal a very uncomfortable last
5 minutes.
Thankfully Postal held out and deserved to take all
3 points.
Overall the players must take great credit for
lifting their game after last week. The effort
and commitment from all involved today couldn't be
questioned and that's all you can ask for week in
week out.
Postal never competed at all in this Div 1 East
match. Glendale began the match hungrier,
quicker and more committed and finished in much the
same manner.
Straight from kick off Postal were put under
pressure and gave away a quick corner kick. As
the away side dominated it was only a matter of time
before they scored and when Postal failed to clear a
set piece into the box, a Glendale player was hand
to knock home.
Second to most things in the middle of the park and
sitting too deep at the back it wasn't long after
that the second went in from another set piece.
Postal were dissapointed when captain Scally was
forced off with a knee injury. This allowed
new signing Goonan to come on but with the big man
still cold he tried to control a ball on his own six
yard box, it bounced to a Glendale player and he
duly converted to all but kill the game as a
contest.
With 5 minutes to go before the half Macmillan came
on for Ure as the midfielder injured an ankle.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Glendale 3
Postal were marginally better second half but not
much. They were further hampered when Mackie
was sent off for a reckless challenge. Perhaps
an over reaction from the ref but still a silly
challenge right under the official's nose.
Glendale scored their fourth with a header from a
corner and their 5th also came from a cross from the
right.
Overall a grim day for Postal. Last week's
effort and attitude seemed a distant memory compared
to the distinct lack of effort, physical exertion,
commitment, concentration and more importantly
heart.
This was Postal's last chance to win some silverwear
this year but with a dessimated squad turning up at
Hazelhead, hopes weren't too high.
Postal welcomed back Bruce and Walder and long term
absentees Darren Buchan and Dougy McKerron.
Straight from kick off the home side were on the
attack and it only took 5 minutes before they
scored. When the Sportsmans number 11
collected the ball in the box on the right hand side
of the box he waltzed past C.Patterson like he
wasn't there to slam the ball past Wiseman.
The tall forward was to have a hand in all
Sportsmans goals this afternoon but Patterson will
be dissapointed with really poor defending.
The rest of the half saw Postal defend well from the
front backward but for the most part it was
Sportsmans Club who were doing most of the
attacking.
Postals best chance of getting a goal looked to be
from set pieces but even though they had 3 or 4
corners in the half they failed to make any real
connections from any of them.
HALF
TIME – Sportsmans Club 1 - Postal ALC 0
Postal replaced Walder with D.Buchan at half time.
The second half saw much the same as the first half.
Postal did a lot of chasing and attempted to play
football whenever they could, but with a number of
the boys, who haven't been playing recently tiring
badly there was only ever going to be one winner in
this game.
Wiseman in goal for Postal had a great second half
and certainly kept the scoreline down but after
sustained pressure, Sportsmans eventually scored
their second. The number 11 picked up the ball
on the Postal left hand side, skipped by his marker
in the box and crossed in. C.Patterson could
only get a headed glance on the ball and it fell to
an unmarked player at the back post who knocked
home.
Postal gave away a pen soon after when they failed
to clear, what should have been, a relatively easy
clearance. The Sportsmans number 8 then took
the ball to the byeline and when Scally stuck out a
leg in the box, the midfielder took a tumble.
Luckily for Postal, Wiseman is in good form at the
moment and he saved well to knock the ball away.
The third goal was only delayed though and again it
was the Sportsmans number 11 who did the damage.
Again, he picked up the ball in the Postal box on
the right hand side, quickly accelerated away from
B.Patterson and blasted the ball high into the roof
of the net.
McKerron had a chance with a header at a corner and
Turbine had a half chance with a weak shot in the
box but Postal rarely troubled the home side in the
second half.
With so many boys missing and boys playing who
haven't been available Postal will wonder how they
might have faired with their more regular side.
Overall, though, Postal can have no complaints, the
home side were much better on the day and deserved
to go through.
Credit to the boys playing today though, the
attitude was excellent. Postal never stopped
trying to play the ball on the deck and although the
3 goals were given away too easily the whole team
worked hard all day to close down and harry the
Premier division team.
Postal had a much depleted side for this league
clash at Woodside and had to draft in Postal legend
Mickey Dale to give some cover on the bench.
RGU started the stronger of the two sides and were
immediately on the attack, pushing Postal back.
It was during this period that the away side took
the lead. A long ball over the top of the
Postal centre backs saw the RGU number 7 get on the
wrong side of left back Scally and when he knocked
it off of the defenders foot it fell kindly and the
striker knocked easily past Wiseman into the net.
That was the last we seen of RGU in the first half
as an attacking force as Postal began dominating the
opening period.
They scored the equaliser soon after the first RGU
goal. A great cross into the box from Turbine
on the Postal left was met by C.Patterson
who headed into the net.
Turbine had two great chances in the first half,
both times he found himself one-on-one with the RGU
keeper and both times the keeper made good saves.
At this point the RGU defence was looking really
ropy and Postal looked as if they could score every
time they went forward.
J.Buchan, playing up front had 3 or 4 decent chances
in the first half which he couldn't convert.
G.Patterson also missed a header at the back post
after another good cross from Turbine.
Frustratingly for Postal they never converted any
more chances and RGU must have been given a boost
going into the interval all equal.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - RGU 1
The second half saw a much improved RGU and a Postal
side who seemed to think the job had been done.
Again, as per the first 10 minutes of the first
half, Postal found themselves camped in their own
half, unfortunately this lasted for most of the
second half with very little of the good play shown
in the opening period.
RGU took the lead from one of their many second half
set pieces. The ball was swung into the 6 yard
area and headed into his own net by B.Patterson for
an Own Goal.
At 2 - 1 B.Patterson had a half chance just inside
the RGU box but his shot sailed over the bar.
RGU scored the killer third when, from another
corner, the number 5 was allowed to head into the
back of the net.
To add insult to injury B.Patterson was sent off
with 7 minutes to go for a second bookable tackle.
Overall, a deeply dissapointing result. The
first half saw some of the best football and chances
we've had all season and to roll over and die in the
second half, to basically hand the game and the
points back to the students is hard to stomach.
We will have to take it on the chin though and
hopefully learn from it as we go into a big cup tie
against premier division oppositon in Sportsmans
Club this weekend.
After the weather of the past couple of weeks, both
teams were surprised to find the pitch deemed
playable.
Postal made three changes to the Glendale starting
eleven. Buchan and Mackie replaced the
unavailable Bruce and Forrester and Walder started
with C.Patterson dropping to the bench.
Ex-Posties keeper Wayne Keith came out of retirement
to help out the lads, starting on the bench.
The first half of the game saw Postal mainly
dominate pocession although Halliburton put up
stuffy opposition.
Postal were playing some nice football on the deck,
particularly up the right hand side with Wood, Ure
and Buchan combining well. Buchan had a chance
in the first half from one of these moves and
midfielder Mackie missed a gilt edged chance when he
found himself in front of the goal with only the
keepr to beat on the right hand side of the six yard
box. Unfortunately he fired into the side
netting.
Halliburton had an excellent chance when Postal were
exposed on the left hand side. Luckily Wiseman
is in good form at the moment and saved well.
The 2nd division side were very unlucky soon after
when a lack of communication from Postal's keeper
and centre back G.Patterson saw a Halliburton corner
diverted into the back of the net. The ref saw
an infringement and disallowed the goal but there
was no complaints coming from the Postal defence or
bench.
With half time looming Postal's Turbine
broke the deadlock. He was sent through from
the midfield and found himself one-on-one with the
keeper. His shot bounced off the on-running
keeper's shoulder but luckily, for Postal, it
rebounded into the empty net to send Postal in one
up.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Halliburton 0
The second half started with Postal on the attack.
Good work by
Buchan
saw him with only the keeper to beat but he sent it
past the keeper's left hand post. It wasn't
long before he got his goal though. A great
inswinging corner from Turbine from the left hand
side saw him waiting at the back post to knock home.
MacDonald
was putting in a fair bit of running on the Postal
left and he was rewarded when he picked up a pass
just inside the Halliburton box and his shot was
fired high into the net past the away side's keeper
for his 5th goal of the season.
Postal sent on W.Keith for Walder soon after.
Around this time Halliburton started coming more
into the game as Postal slackened off so Buchan was
swapped with Keith.
Keith
had a good long range effort saved soon after moving
up front, he also had a diving header saved but his
work was rewarded when G.Patterson strode up the
park and into the Halliburton box. His shot
was fired off the post into the path of Keith who
knocked home for Postal's fourth.
Overall, this was a much improved performance from
Postal. The management had asked the team to
relax on the ball and pass on the deck and for the
most part that's what they did with some really
nicely worked moves.
A
better defensive performance from Postal saw only
their second clean sheet of the season.
As per the last game we're still creating a lot of
chances which is good but not being clinical enough
which is not. Hopefully this will be the start of a good run-in
towards the end of the season.
13/02/10 - Glendale Youth V Postal ALC
(League - Div 1 East)
Glendale Youth 2 - Postal ALC 1
Postal started their first game in over 10 weeks
with a few absentees but with an experienced line
up. Buchan, Mathers and Cumming missed the
game through holiday or injury and Mackie and
Macmillan were unable to start the game through
injury and illness.
Postal started the game reasonably well although at
times it was obvious that both teams had not been
playing regularly.
Neil MacDonald
was doing particularly well for Postal on the right
hand side of midfield not only going forward but
tracking back deep also. He was rewarded when
he picked up a through ball and although his first
shot was saved he finished well on the rebound to
smash the ball high past the keeper from just inside
the box.
More good work on the Postal right saw Bruce have a
one-on-one with the Glendale Youth keeper to double
Postal's leadd but the forward will be dissapointed
with his effort as the keeper saved too easily.
It wasn't all one way traffic though and Postal rode
their luck a number of times and Postal keeper
Wiseman saved the proverbial bacon on more that one
occasion.
The half ended with neither side on top or playing
much football at all. Too many times the ball
was being hoofed by bothe teams into the air.
HALF
TIME – Glendale Youth 0 - Postal ALC 1
The Half time discussion about the need to start
well and keep up the effort obviously fell on deaf
ears because for the first 25 minutes of this half
Postal lost most of the 50/50 balls, struggled to
make a 10 yard pass and generally dropped out of the
game to allow Youth to push them back.
It was no surprise, then, when the home side got an
equaliser.
When the free funning Glendale number 7 was taken
down outside the Postal box, the resultant free kick
wasn't cleared and the ball knocked home from inside
the box.
Postal did up their game now and began dominating as
they pressed for the winner. MacDonald had a
chance one on one with the keeper but came out
second best of this occasion.
Postal missed the chance of the game when a ball
across the face of the Youth box was met by Ure at
the back post. It looked harder to miss but
when the midfielder hit the ball it agonisingly
never crossed the line.
With 5 minutes to go, Postal unforgivably switched
off. A free kick on the Postal left was taken
quickly and with Postal still setting up for a long
ball into the box, it was whipped in from the bye
line, met by C.Patterson's man at the back post and
knoced home, again by the Youth number 7. Very
very poor from an defensive point of view.
Wood had a half chance from just inside the Youth
box which went over the bar soon after but it was
the team at the bottom of the league who walked away
with all 3 points.
Overall Postal had a lot of chances to win the game
but it couldn't be said either side ever dominated
proceedings.
There were a number of obvious failings which could
have been put down to lack of games. Poor
Passing (too many people launching balls under no
pressure with no name, real school boy stuff).
Poor finishing. Poor concentration (the second
goal was case in point). The most
dissapointing aspect though was the lack of 2nd half
effort. Too many boys who were having really
good first halve's put little or no effort into the
second period until it was too late.
The obvious hope is to now get a run of games, get
rid of the rustiness and iron out of a few of the
other problems.
28/11/09 - Postal ALC V Blackburn
(League - Div 1 East)
Postal ALC 2 - Blackburn 5
Postal started the game on top. For the first
25 minutes they dominated proceedings and it only
looked a matter of time before they scored.
The goal eventually came from a long Macmillan throw
in from the right. The ball was thrown long into the
box and when the ball landed at Bruce's
foot at the back post he did well to control and
rocket the ball high into the net.
Unfortunately that was as good as it got.
Postal obviously thought they had won it after this
goal because they proceeded to lie back and throw
the game away. Blackburn scored almost
immediately. One ball down the left hand side
saw Blackburn flood forward from the midfield to
support and when the ball was crossed in from the
left, a Blackburn player was waiting at the back
post to knock home easily unchallenged.
Postal were actually attacking a set piece in the
Blackburn box when, as has happened too often this
season, the away side countered to get their second.
Again Postal were posted missing in both defence and
midfield when Blackburn attacked and when the
eventual scorer received the ball in the box he went
by C.Patterson in the box far too easily to finish
well high into the net.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Blackburn 2
Once a team drops down a gear it's hard to come back
up and if the end of the first half was bad, the
second half was a total capitulation.
The third goal came when C.Patterson gave away a
foul on the edge of the box. The Blackburn
number 9 did well to fire the free kick low into the
Postal keepers bottom left hand side.
Blackburn then killed the game with a fourth when
left back Scally hacked down a Blackburn player in
the box to give away a penalty which the Blackburn
number 10 duly converted.
Unacceptably, it was heads up the backside time for
too many Postal players at this point and the 5th
only looked a matter of time. It came when a
high cross from the Postal right wasn't cleared and
when the ball broke to an opposition player he made
no mistake in knocking home.
Buchan
scored a very good second as a consolation when he
collected the ball on the edge of the box on the
right hand side and fired high past the keeper, but
it was all too little too late.
Overall, the lack of consistency from Postal is
frustrating. It's clear from last weeks
performance levels and the level shown in the first
25 minutes of this match that Postal are well
capable of winning games and competing in this
league.
Unfortunately, too often the mental aspect of the
game is their downfall though with both
concentration and physical effort dropping at times
when they should be rising. Until they sort that out
they'll be stuck in this league for the forseeable
future.
Postal arrived at the artificial pitch at Kaimhill
with a decimated squad. No subs were available
so manager Patterson had to pull on the boots in
defence and assistant Hay took his place on the
bench. Luckily, player of the year from last
year Buchan returned from injury.
The artificial pitch at Kaimhill is a decent surface
and it was clear it suited both sides who, more
often than not, attempted to get the ball on the
deck. Throughout the game Postal keeper
Wiseman was finding the ever available Scally as
Postal attempted to play the ball on the deck from
defence onwards.
RGU were also trying to play football and there was
some decent passing moves from both teams in what
was a fairly even first half. If anything,
Postal had the better of the chances in the first
half.
It was RGU, though, who took the lead around the 20
minute mark. With Postal pushing out, one long
ball over the defences heads from the Postal right
to left, found an unmarked RGU fwd running in on
goal and he fired a terrific shot into the top right
hand corner of the net to give the Uni boys the
lead. Slack marking and Postal were rightly
mad with themselves but a great finish none the less
and nothing Wiseman could do.
Chances fell to Mathers, Buchan and McDonald
as Postal tried to find an equaliser. Too many
times, though, the final ball after some fine
pocession play was lacking and the half finished
with an RGU breakaway which nearly doubled their
lead.
In almost identical fashion to the first goal,
Postal attempted to play offside and it was only
poor finishing this time that helped Postal when the
forward raced in on goal from the Postal left.
HALF
TIME – RGU 1 - Postal ALC 0
The first 5 minutes of the second half saw Postal
hemmed in at the back and as the rain started to
pour down, RGU had 3 or 4 corners in quick
succession. Postal defended them well though and as
the half continued they found their passing game
again.
Wood in particular from the back was starting a lot
of the moves, Scally was still getting a lot of
pocession on the left and Buchan was always
available for an "out" up front when the midfield
and defence needed a rest.
Postal began threatening as the half progressed and
when the RGU keeper made a great save from a
cross-come-shot from the Postal right hand side
Bruce took the resultant corner kick. A decent
ball into the 6 yard area saw manager Patterson spin
off his man and head towards goal. When the
keeper made a point blank save Patterson
was again on hand to knock home for the equaliser
and his second of the season.
Both sides were now pushing to win the game and both
teams had chances. Mathers for Postal managed
to push the ball past the RGU keeper at one point
only to see it agonisingly run past the post.
With 5 minutes to go, Postal scored the winner.
Patterson picked up the ball at the back, played a
through ball to Wood who had ventured into midfield.
His ball pass found Buchan
who did well to beat his man and slot the ball into
the back of the net for the winner.
As expected RGU battered the Postal defence for the
last 5 minutes but Postal defended well to take all
3 points back to Woodside.
Overall Postal continued the good form they showed
at Kintore and it was particularly pleasing that
even with a heavily depleted squad and one down at
half time, they battled hard to win pocession,
defended well and never stopped attempting to pass
the ball to get the equaliser and eventual winner.
Well done lads.
07/11/09 - Milton V Postal ALC
(Scottish Cup 3rd Round)
Milton 7 - Postal ALC 0
Postal travelled to Bannockburn on a sunny November
day. There were doubts the day before that the
game might have been off due to rain but the park
was fine.
It's fair to say that Postal were well beaten today.
From beginning to end the visitors were in total
control and Postal rarely stopped defending long
enough to attack.
Milton actually had their first attempt on goal
within the first minute and it was only a great save
from Wiseman high at his top left hand corner which
kept them out.
The home side scored the first when they received
the ball on the Postal left, the attacker ran with
the ball 10 yards at his feet unchallenged before
picking his spot to the keepers right from just
outside the 18 yard line.
The second came from a break away from a rare Postal
attack. Postal were left man for man at the
back and when the striker ran past G.Patterson in
defence he could not be caught. Wood attempted
to close him down but the pass inside found another
Milton striker who stroked home past Wiseman in
goal.
The killer 3rd came from a glaring mistake from
captain G.Patterson. In no apparent danger he
attempted a pass just to the right of the Postal box
and with no cover the attacker cut inside to score.
Unfortunately there were no real opportunities as
such for Postal to talk of in the first half.
HALF
TIME – Milton 3 - Postal ALC 0
The second half was very much more of the same and
two early goals for Milton put them on easy street.
The first coming in the first 5 minutes when a cross
from the Postal left was not cleared and a Milton
striker headed easily home.
Numerous goals followed and the score ended up 7 - 0
but could easily have been more with really only a
1/2 chance to Bews up front and a header for
C.Patterson in the box the only second half
offensive offerings from the Posties.
Overall, sometimes you just need to put your hands
up and say the other team was better and this was
very much one of those days. Yes, there were
some silly goals amongst the 7 which could have been
avoided but also there were some great saves and
some good defensive work which stopped the result
becoming a cricket score.
Credit where it's due to Postal they could have
easily have stopped at half time but continued
fighting to the last kick of the ball even when they
were chasing shadows at times.
Thanks to Milton for their hospitality after the
game.
On an unseasonably warm day out at Kintore Postal
started with an attacking line up. Bruce and
Bews started up front with Turbine playing in the
hole behind.
Right from the beginning the game was fairly open
with both teams attacking and winning corners at
both ends of the park. It was Postal, though,
who had far the better of the first half chances.
The first fell to B.Patterson, when the ball fell to
him on the 6 yard line from a corner he attempted to
place the ball with the inside of his foot but could
only send the ball over the cross bar.
Next up was the industrious Turbine who was
producing his best performance for a while but,
again, collected the ball from a set piece in the
box and shot over the bar.
Postal thought they had broke the deadlock when
Mackie sent a long range shot from the right hand
side of midfield but it was not to be and the bench
were devastated when it crashed off the post/bar.
In between times another Set piece saw left back
Scally try and bundle the ball over the line but the
keeper was on hand to knock clear as Kintore rode
their luck.
That said, Kintore were always dangerous on the
counter attack and their number 7 and number 11 were
lively throughout the half forcing Postal to defend
a number of corners kicks and free kicks themselves
successfully.
The half ended disappointingly for Postal at
nil-nil.
HALF
TIME – Kintore 0 - Postal ALC 0
The second half started at much the same pace as the
first. The game was still fairly open and both
teams continued to attack.
It was noticeable that Kintore had changed their
shape to push more men forward though but although
the final result will say otherwise it didn't seem
to be causing Postal too much cause for concern and
the defence seemed as comfortable as they have all
season.
Mackie on the right for Postal was playing well at
the start of the second half and Postal thought he
was a cert to score when he was sent through one on
one with the Kintore keeper. Unfortunately he
shot too early and sent his shot over the bar.
Not long after, the Kintore number 7 who was now
playing predominantly on the left for Kintore scored
to make it one nil. Postal lost the ball on
the left and when the cross was sent in low it was
the Kintore number who arrived in the box
first in front of his Postal marker to bundle the
ball home.
Extremely harsh on Postal but still a loss in
concentration.
To their credit the away side battled on and when
B.Patterson flicked on a set piece at the front post
it looked as though Postal had equalised but
agonisingly it drifted past the back post and out
the park.
Next up it was Bews to find himself one on one with
the keeper but he could only send his shot off the
body of the keeper and once again Kintore were let
off the hook.
Postal were beginning to look "leggy" on both flanks
now though and the number 11 for Kintore was looking
particularly dangerous when he cut in from the
Postal right.
With 10 minutes to go Kintore sealed their win, when
another deep cross was not cut out on the Postal
left and again the unmarked Kintore number seven was
allowed to run from deep to head home unmarked for
his 2nd of the game and the winner for Kintore.
Overall it's had to be too hard on Postal after what
was probably their best performance in recent weeks.
Unfortunately it was a case of missed chances and a
couple of lapses in concentration letting them down.
On a positive front, though, some boys produced
their best performances of the season and the
management will be looking for more consistent
offerings now that this standard has been set.
Kintore are now 2nd in the league but it was evident
that there is not a great deal between 2nd and 9th.
17/10/09 - Postal ALC V Westhill
(Scottish Cup - 2nd Round)
Postal ALC 2 - Westhill 1
On a sunny afternoon at Woodside Postal welcomed
Davy Wood back into the squad. With Forrester
missing, B.Patterson moved forward into the midfield
and C.Patterson started in central defence.
The away side started the game well and were more
than matching Postal in the midfield without
creating many chances. They were shutting
Postal down quickly and stopping the 1st division
side playing any real football or getting the ball
up to the 2 forwards.
It was Postal who took the lead when McDonald
picked up the ball just inside the Westhill box and
stroked it home into the corner of the net.
Wiseman was also performing well for Postal in goal
today and was kicking well and dealing with the
numerous pass backs that Postal were playing to him.
The half ended as it had started with Weshill
pushing Postal back and Postal struggling to get
out.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Westhill 0
Postal managed to give themselves a bit of daylight
when they scored early in the half. A cross
into the box saw Ure
meet it first at the front post and his header
sneaked in (with a little deflection).
This should have calmed Postal down but still they
were sclaffing the ball and struggling to get their
passing game going.
Westhill managed to get one back when their number 6
collected the ball outside the area on the left and
sent a looping shot over the head of Wiseman and
into the net.
The game started getting a bit tousy at this point
as the tackles started flying in. Mackie was
booked and soon after saw red for an over the ball
tackle (which got more of his own player C.Patterson
than the Westhill player).
With 10 men and 20 minutes left to play, Postal were
pressed back for the remainder of the game and were
more than happy when they eventually heard the final
whistle.
Overall, not the best Postal have ever played and to
be honest it would have beena very poor game to
watch with quality football at a premium from both
teams. At the end of the day though, the
result is more important than the performance and
Postal will be looking forward to the 3rd round
draw.
10/10/09 - Ellon Amateurs V Postal ALC
(North of Scotland)
Ellon Amateurs 3 - Postal ALC 0
Postal travelled to Ellon with hopes of matching
their run to the Quarter Finals last season.
Unfortunately the performance never came up to last
season's standards.
Postal were without keeper Wiseman so asked Bruce to
deputise. Mackie and Bews came back into the
starting line-up with Mackenzie available again on
the bench after a long period unavailable.
The first half was fairly even with neither team
really threatening each others goals. On a
particularly short but wide pitch, most of the match
was bogged down in the midfield and it was
particularly frustrating that Postal couldn't get
the ball moving at all on the deck.
Pass after pass was misplaced, or sent out the
pitch. Football is all about decisions, they
say, and too many times the wrong decision was made
about whether to run with the ball or pass, pass
short or pass long.
That said, Ellon weren't any better and it was felt
if Postal battled on they would hopefully make the
breakthrough first. Unfortunately it was the
home side who took the lead.
A
misplaced pass from Forrester from the midfield
found an Ellon player instead of a Postal one and
when the ball was worked out to the Postal right,
the resultant cross could only be palmed out by
Bruce in goal and it bounced agonisingly off of Left
Back Scally's leg and into the net for an O.G.
HALF
TIME – Ellon Amateurs 1 - Postal ALC 0
It was highlighted at half time that the next goal
was going to be all important but Postal went into
the second half confidant of pulling the game back.
Again though, it was more huffing and puffing from
Postal without any decent through balls for the
strikers, cross ball into the box or quality runs
from deep to trouble the ageing Ellon backline.
The second goal came early in the half and it was
Ellon who doubled their lead. A quick free
kick from the Postal left saw Postal day-dreaming
and again Ellon cut in from the Postal right to
score past Bruce at his front post.
It must be said that Postal now had the majority of
the ball for the next 25 minutes as they pushed to
get back into the game but as has previously been
said, struggled to create chances.
Ellon scored a third on the break with 10 minutes to
go to seal the tie and go into the second round.
Bruce attempted to throw the ball out quickly but
instead sent it to an Ellon player. Within
seconds the ball was again in the back of the net.
Overall it was a poor performance from Postal who
will feel embarrassed they have been sent out of the
cup by a team a division below them. It could
be argued that 3 nil is a false reflection of the
game but at the end of the day that's the result
that will be in the paper on Wednesday and Ellon's
name in the hat for the 2nd round.
Postal need to up their game quick smart if they are
to have any hope of getting that much desired "away
day" in the Scottish.

04/10/09 - Postal ALC V Insch
(League)
Postal ALC 1 - Insch 2
The wind at Woodside was horrendous today and Postal
kicked off the wind at their backs. From the
kick off it was obvious that Insch would struggle to
get out of their own half with the strong wind
blowing the ball back at any kick outs from their
keeper.
Postal, though, struggled the whole half to exploit
the advantage. They failed to make any real
impact on the steady Insch defence and chances were
few and far between.
McDonald had a half chance with a shot from the
right hand side of the box and Forrester had a
similar chance when he shot from just inside the
left hand side of the box.
It was
Forrester
who gave Postal the lead when he collected the ball
in the box and rattled the it high past the keepr
from close range.
C.Patterson had a great chance when he should have
scored from a header in the 6 yard box but his
header sailed over the bar.
Insch looked threatening when they did come forward
and the Postal back line certainly weren't looking
their most confidant. Twice Macmillan sent bad
pass-backs to the keeper and too numerously Postal
were found wanting when Insch played the ball on the
deck past the static defence.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Insch 0
The second half was much the same as the first.
Postal struggling to get out of their own half and
Insch having more pocession but struggling to kill
the game off.
Their equaliser was lucky in that it was taken by
the wind from a corner kick and directly into the
top right hand corner of the Postal net. That
said, the corner kick was taken well and was sent
into a dangerous place. Postal in the first
half struggled to do the same with their set pieces.
The winner for Insch was sloppy on Postal's part.
One long ball over the top of Scally in the left
back area saw the defender fail to keep up with the
forward and with no support from the centre backs
the forward finished confidently.
Postal huffed and puffed for the remainder of the
game but the forwards never looked to trouble the
Insch back line at all.
Overall Postal would have been confident of beating
this Insch side in normal weather but failed to turn
the screw in the first half and when asked to show a
bit of character in testing conditions were
definatley second best to the country side in too
many departments.
26/09/09 - Postal ALC V Burghmuir
(Scottish Cup 1st Round)
Postal ALC 4 - Burghmuir 1
On an unbelievably hot late September day at
Woodside, Postal provided their best performance of
the season to move into the next round of the
Scottish Amateur Cup.
Macmillan, McDonald and Walder were missing from
last weeks squad so Wiseman was brought back into
goal and Bruce took up the right back spot.
Postal actually started the slower of the two teams
and as per the last game against Burghmuir it was
the away side who were pushing Postal back.
The movement of the away side's number 10 was
causing some problems as the Postal back line failed
to decide who was picking him up and it wasn't long
before they took the lead.
When Turbine was caught in pocession in the middle
of the park, Postal failed to react and an unmarked
Burghmuir forward was sent through on goal.
Wiseman did well with the initial effort but when he
pushed it to one side another unmarked forward was
on hand to knock it home.
Fortunately this spurred Postal to life and they
then dominated the remainder of the half. The
first goal came from a build up on the RHS involving
Bruce and Mathers. Postal couldn't get on to
the resulting cross into the box but when Buchan
charged down the defender in the box, he won the
ball and slotted past the keeper.
It was Buchan who again started the move for the
next goal. With Postal defending a setpiece,
he won the ball on edge of the Postal box to start
the move. The ball was eventually sent through
to Turbine on the left and when his shot was saved,
top scorer
Bews
was on hand to put Postal into the lead.
Postal were playing some really nice stuff at this
point with Mathers and Bruce in particular combining
well after a slow start to the game.
The third goal was a great move involving Buchan and
Mathers who then sent in a great cross for Bews
to convert for his 11th of the season.
Chris Turbine
also had a much improved performance today and he
deservedly got the 4th for his efforts in the heat.
It was Mathers again who sent him through one on one
with the keeper and although he missed the first
effort he made no mistake with his second.
Annoyingly Postal then switched off and almost
allowed Burghmuir a lifeline. A missed header
in the middle of the park saw the ball bounce in
behind the Postal defence and with the forward ready
to pull the trigger, Scally bundled into him just
inside the box. Luckily for Postal the forward
hoofed the kick over the bar and Scally walked away
without so much as a booking.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 4 - Burghmuir 1
With the sun continuing to beat down, it's perhaps
understandable that Postal failed to keep their
first half pace up and the second half was a more
even affair although Postal still had numerous
chances to increase their lead.
Mathers, Turbine and Bews all had chances to get a
5th but couldn't stick them away.
Burghmuir had one or two half chances, the best of
which seen B.Patterson make a last gasp tackle in
the 6 yard box after Postal had failed to clear
their lines but they too couldn't make any indent
into Postal's lead and the game ended as it started
in the 2nd half.
Overall Burghmuir haven't exactly set the heather
alight so far this season but Postal can only beat
who are put in front of them and some of the
football in the first half in particular was a joy
to watch at times.
Nice to see the defence a good deal more
concentrated, Buchan was his usual driving force and
Mathers had his best game yet for Postal on the
right.
The proverbial game of 2 halves saw FC Geldie book
their place in the next round of the League Cup and
Postal wondering where it went wrong.
Postal welcomed back B.Patterson, Forrester,
J.Buchan and Turbine into the starting 11 with
McDonald and C.Patterson dropping to the bench along
with Wiseman and Walder.
Postal had a couple of scares early doors when the
Geldie number 7 was allowed to run in behind the
Postal defence on the right but he failed to hit the
target on both occasions.
For the next 30 minutes Postal dominated
proceedings. Forrester and Scally were
combining well on the left hand side supporting Bews
and Turbine up front. Buchan was also strong
at this point in the game and was doing well on the
ball backed up defensively by the back 4 and Cumming
in midfield.
Postal's final ball was letting them down at times,
though, and numerous set pieces were wasted as
Postal failed to clear the first defender at free
kicks and corners.
Some howling refereeing decisions were also turning
the game to become a bit of a kicking match as the
official allowed foul after foul to go unpunished
(especially on Buchan) while booking for talking.
Postal had a couple of decent shouts for pens denied
in the first half, one for a tackle and one for a
blatant hand ball. They were rewarded though
when Bews
put the home side ahead to score his 9th of the
season.
At this point it only looked a matter of time before
Postal would score another but the last 5 minutes of
the half saw Geldie come more into the game and they
were rewarded when Postal gift-wrapped the equaliser
for them.
A
basic through ball between defenders G.Patterson and
Macmillan saw Postal standing static with their
hands in the air claiming offside, the claim was
waved away and the Geldie player kept his composure
to round Bruce and slot home. Harsh on Postal
as the boy looked offside but slack none the less.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - FC Geldie 1
It's hard to say whether Postal dropped a gear of if
Geldie raised their game but the away side certainly
started the second half the better side.
The Postal midfield was now struggling to back up
the front two who were now largely isolated up
front. Forrester on the left was no longer the
threat from the first half and Mathers looked to be
struggling fitness wise.
It must be said though, that although Geldie were
playing a lot better, the goals that Postal conceded
were once again given away far too cheaply.
The second for the away side arrived when a cross
from the Postal left saw Postal react second to the
ball and the Geldie shot at the front post slammed
off the bar and over the line.
Mathers was replaced by McDonald and he did well for
the remainder of the game coming on, on the Postal
right hand side.
Postal thought they had scored again when the
ball broked to Buchan around 10 yards out. His
shot looked home but much to the Postal benches
dismay it bounced off the post and away to safety.
The Geldie 3rd came soon after. Very poor
marking by Postal at the back allowed Geldie to work
the ball around the Postal box with the defenders
yards away from their men. The ball was
eventually stoked past the helpess Bruce in goal.
At this point there was still a good quarter of an
hour to go, so plenty of time for a comeback but
Postal failed to keep their concentration and they
once again gave Geldie a goal without asking them to
work too hard for it. Postal failed to clear
their lines when the ball arrived in the box and
when it was knocked back into the 6 yard area the
number 9 for Geldie was sitting unmarked onside and
he'll not score an easier one all season.
Postal scored a consolation goal when McDonald
stroked home a smashing free kick from the right
hand side of the box into the top left hand side of
the goal but it was too little too late
unfortunately.
Overall, It's a hard defeat to take, and not easier
to write about 3 days later. Postal played as
well as they have done all season in that first half
and to fail to live up to that dominance in the
second half is disapointing to say the least.
A lack of defensive concentration at key times in
games is slightly worrying at the moment but if we
can play as we did first half for the whole game on
Saturday then we will surely be booking our place in
the 2nd round of the Scottish.
Another beautiful day at Woodside saw Postal line up
with no less than 6 players missing from the squad
which faced Newmachar 2 weeks ago. The Postal
squad is fairly healthy at the moment, though, and
Macmillan, Ure, Mathers, McDonald and McKerron came
in to replace the missing Wiseman, B.Patterson,
Forrester, Mackenzie, Turbine and J.Buchan.
It's probably fair to say that, with the last few
results in mind, Postal started off cautiously if
not a little bit nervy. The away side
certainly dominated the first half pocession with
Postal conceding numerous corner kicks and allowing
Burghmuir to push them back into their own half but
to be honest, Burghmuir failed to create any real
chances for their effort.
Any chances they did have were dealt with well by
the Postal defence or held by Bruce who deputised
superbly for the missing Wiseman in goal.
Against the run of play it was Postal who scored
first. A good move by Postal on the flanks saw
a decent cross sent into the box where it was met by
Bews.
He couldn't convert the first effort but did well to
knock the rebound into the back of the net for his
8th of the season.
This should have relaxed the home side but they
still did not look particularly comfortable and they
continued to let the visitors win the ball in
midfield and struggled to clear their lines in
defence.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 1 - Burghmuir 0
The second half performance was slightly better for
Postal and certainly the game was more evenly
matched. Midfield-wise, Mackie began exerting
an influence in the game and Ure was managing to
support the front two from the left hand side.
Bews doubled the lead for Postal midway through the
half when, with Burghmuir trying to play offside he
was sent clear on the left hand side. One on
one with the keeper, he calmly rounded him and
slotted the ball low into the right hand side
netting.
Credit to Burghmuir they never rolled over though
and Postal made the mistake of attempting to sit on
their lead instead of getting another to kill the
game.
As these things have a habit of doing in these
situations, the visitors scored to leave Postal with
a nervy last 20. Another set piece into the
box fell at the feet of an unmarked Burghmuir player
at the edge of the box and his shot bounced off the
back of left back Scally and past Bruce into the
net.
Postal replaced McDonald with McKerron and Mathers
with Buchan to try and pep the home side up a bit
but Burghmuir very much had the bit between their
teath now and scared Postal with a shot off the
woodwork and a clear shot on goal from 6 yrds out
which was missed.
Thankfully Postal held on to take all 3 points.
Overall, this wasn't Postal's finest performance,
but at the end of the day they were asked to cut out
the amount of goals scored against and win the game
which they did. If we get the same result week
in week out we'll all be happy no matter the
performance. Hopefully, though, we can now
build on this result and push on for the rest of the
season starting this weekend in the League Cup
against Geldie.
30/08/09 - Postal ALC V Newmachar
United (Association Trophy)
Postal ALC 2 - Newmachar United 7
Postal had a nightmare first game at their new home
pitch at Woodside on Saturday.
On a sunny day, Postal were without Macmillan,
McDonald, G.Patterson, McKerron and Walder from the
previous Saturday but welcomed back Scally,
Forrester, Bews and Mackenzie.
From the start of the game Postal were put under
pressure by a Newmachar side who were sharper and,
more importantly, hungrier to get on the ball.
Their first goal came when a cross into the box was
dropped by keeper Wiseman under pressure from
various Newmachar players. The resultant shot
was blocked on the line by Cumming's hand and to be
honest he was lucky not to get the red card.
Unlike the last game, the Newmachar player duly
converted.
Postal rallied for a while and were unlucky on the
break when Newmachar were attempting to play the
offside trap. Turbine and Bews both had half
chances.
Newmachar doubled their lead soon after. A
basic cross into the box was met my a poor
C.Patterson header who knocked the ball directly
into the path of an unmarked midfielder on the edge
of the box who drilled home.
The game was taken away from Postal on the 35 minute
mark. A scirmish in the middle of the park by
a number of players had seen Bruce get a talking to
by the referee. Minutes later, Bruce made a
late challenge on a Newmachar forward and was
controversially shown a straight red card. A
foolishly times tackle considering the talking to
minutes earlier but incredibly harsh and there were
worse tackles to follow from both sides which didn't
even get a booking.
With Postal trying to re-organise before the break
Newmachar scored the crucial 3rd. Again, it
was a ball breaking to an unmarked player on the
edge of the box after a scramble in the box that saw
him fire the ball past Wiseman and effectively kill
the game.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Newmachar United 3
The second half saw Postal huff and puff but they
were well off the pace of the game at the back and
were being over run by the extra man in midfield.
The 4th was not long in coming when the defence
couldn't head a basic cross away and it was
dispatched far too easily at the back post.
Another penalty (this time by a B.Patterson tackle)
and another two goals sealed the game.
If there were any positive points for Postal it was
how they continued to push Newmacahr for a goal and
were rewarded with a Turbine
looping header and a J.Buchan
free kick.
Overall, though, it was another terrible defensive
peformance from Postal, not only from a particularly
slow, plodding and positionally inept back four but
from a midfield incapable of tracking their men or
physically challenging the dominant Newmachar.
Still early days in the season but a lot of work for
us to do.
Hopefully the two weeks we now have off will allow
us to re-group and get back on track.
Postal arrived at Gourdon with a changed squad from
that of the week before. They welcomed
McKerron back into the starting 11 for the first
time this season and Mackie back into the midfield.
The first half an hour was a fairly even affair.
Bervie probably had more pocession than Postal
without having any real chances on goal and Postal
were looking reasonably assured defensivly.
It was annoying then when they gave away a soft
goal. A foul by Macmillan on the Postal right,
meters from the corner flag, was curled in and found
it's way over the head of keeper Wiseman who will
feel he should have done better.
Postal didn't let it really affect them though and
continued to match Bervie. Turbine had a
chance, there were a couple of other half chances
and 3 or 4 corners as Postal pressed.
Postal gave away another sloppy goal, though, around
the 40 minute mark. Postal were actually
attacking a corner when the Bervie midfielder
collected the ball from his box and sprinted with
the ball unchallenged into the Postal half as the
Postal players "jogged" back. One pass later
and a deflected shot over the head of Wiseman and
Bervie had doubled their lead. Annoyingly lazy
from the boys attacking the corner.
HALF
TIME – Bervie Caley 2 - Postal ALC
Postal thought they were going to pull one back
early in the half when McDonald had a shot from the
6 yard box cleared off the line after a corner but
Bervie managed to clear their lines.
The third goal was always going to be important and
it was Bervie who grabbed it. With Postal
stretched at the back the Bervie number 9 sprinted
from deep with the ball unchallenged into the Postal
box. With C.Patterson attempting to guide him
wide he foolishly stepped right in front of him and
sent him tumbling. Schoolboy stuff in the box
and Bervie duly converted.
Postal were now rattled and with the shape beginning
to disintegrate Bervie flooded down the left hand
side, crossed deep to the edge of the box and with
Postal slow to react, the Bervie midfielder poked
the ball home at the second attempt after a save
from Wiseman.
J. Buchan
scored a consolation for Postal with a great finish
lobbing the keeper from inside the box.
Wiseman also eased Postal's blushes slightly, also,
when he saved another penalty after Cumming tripped
a Bervie player.
D.Buchan had a couple of half chances at the end of
the game and J.Buchan had another but the game ended
without any more goals.
Overall, this was an improved performance from last
week but Postal need to stop giving teams a 4 goal
start with lazy, sloppy defending if they are to
make any sort of impression in this league.
15/08/09 - Postal ALC V Glendale
Youth
(Div 1 East)
Postal ALC 4 - Glendale Youth 6
Postal turned up confidant after their recent good
results. Unfortunately the day turned into a
defensive disaster. Apologies for the lack of
details. Here is a brief summary of the game.
Glendale controlled the first half and scored 3
without reply. Glendale's number 7 causing
Postal particular problems on the left and their
number 10 up front was causing the experienced
Postal defence problems with minimal efffort needed.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Glendale Youth 3
Postal sold another soon into the half when 10
scored again with the defence posted missing again.
Postal go 3 at the back and miraculously make a 4
goal come back. Goals from McDonald,
B.Patterson, keeper
Wiseman from a long
kick out and Mathers
getting Postal back into the game.
During this period Buchan was sent off for 2
bookings.
After the fourth goal there was only 5 minutes left
and Postal should have shut up shop and taken the
draw. Unfortunately straight from kick off
they conceded a 5th and while pressing for the
equaliser conceded a 6th before the game ended.
Overall a defensive howler for the Postal back 4.
Positives, though, are that we never gave up and we
will hopefully never play as bad at the back again.
12/08/09 - Newmachar United V Postal ALC
(Div 1 East)
Newmachar United 0 - Postal ALC 1
On a hot August night Postal swapped watching
Scotland to travel out to Newmachar.
With Scally, Forrester and Cumming missing from
Saturdays game, Postal drafted Turbine, Mackie and
Walder back into the squad.
Postal started well and were immediately making
chances, passing the ball from the back 4, through
the midfield to the forwards. The pitch out at
Newmachar is excellent and really suited Postal's
passing game in the first half.
It was Postal, who almost conceded first though.
A lack in concentration let Newmachar work the ball
to the edge of the box and when the ball was chipped
into the box C.Patterson flicked the ball away with
his hand to give away a penalty. A clearer
penalty you couldn't see but the arm was working
faster than the mind on this occasion.
Luckily for Patterson, Wiseman in goal got him out
of jail by guessing correctly and saving well low to
his left hand side.
This spurred Postal on and they scored soon after.
Good work by McDonald on the left saw Postal win a
corner. When the ball was swung in,
G.Patterson was waiting at the back post to head the
ball across the box for the on-running Buchan
to head home. A good goal by the midfielder
who was dominating in the air the whole game.
Before the half was finished Postal had further
chances to Bews and Bruce but couldn't get the 2nd.
Bruce was booked for a late tackle near the end of
the half and Bews and McDonald were booked for
dissent.
HALF
TIME – Newmachar Utd 0 - Postal ALC 1
Postal were frustrated
for the majority of the 2nd half. It seemed
that every time they went forward they were being
deemed to be offside. Some were correct but
some were very dubious.
As the frustration
increased going forward, Nemachar were becoming more
confidant and forcing their way forward.
For the majority of
the half Postal were on the back foot and even the
inclusion of Mackie to the midfield and Mathers on
the right couldn't really change the flow of the
game.
The defence were
holding firm though with Macmillan having a
particulary good game alongside the 3 Pattersons at
the back.
On one of their rare
forrays forward Postal thought they had won a
penalty when McDonald seemed to be bundled to the
ground in the box. Like much of the decisions
on the day the ref ruled against Postal.
Thankfully Postal
defended well all over the park for the rest of the
game and took the 3 points back to Aberdeen.
Overall, a really good
team performance from Postal. Everbody
helping, encouraging and showing the enthusiasm to
get involved in the game that the management had
asked for before the game. Well done.
On a sunny day at Inverdee Postal came back from a
goal down to take all 3 points. Following on
from Wednesday night's game, Postal made some
changes. C.Patterson and G.Scally came into
the defence, B.Patterson moved into centre mid and
Bruce moved up front.
Postal started the game well and were competing all
over the park but it was Geldie who scored first
against the run of play within 10 minutes of the
start. A corner kick came in and when the ball
dropped kindly to the Geldie number 10 he just
managed to poke it over the head of Forrester
defending the goal line.
Credit to Postal though, they never let it affect
their play and they were soon back on level terms.
A good interchange between Bruce and Buchan saw
Buchan attack the Geldie bye line in the box.
His resultant pass across the face of the goal saw
the prolific Bews
waiting to knock it home. The wee man is in
great form at the moment and his enthusiasm to get
among the goals was causing Geldie trouble all day.
Postal took the lead soon after when more good work
by Buchan
saw him twist and turn to create space for himself
before he cooly picked his spot to pass the ball
home.
The game turned a tad nasty towards the 30 minute
mark when a badly timed tackle by C.Patterson saw
him hack down the Geldie number 10 who reacted
badly. Both players were lucky to walk away
card free. Geldie blasted the resultant free
kick high over the bar.
Before the half ended Bews had a half chance at the
back post and B.Patterson had a header sail over the
bar from a corner.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 2 - FC Geldie 1
Thankfully for Postal
their performance level never dropped in the 2nd
half and they were rewarded when the Geldie keeper
gifted Buchan a second. A long free
kick into the box saw the keeper come out to collect
but when he dropped the ball, it landed at Jamie's
feet and he knocked it home for Postal's third.
As the half went on,
Geldie started pushing Postal back but were leaving
themself short at the back and Bews had a great
chance when he found himself one on one with the
keeper but the keeper did well to save.
The next chance he got
though, he made no mistake when he was played
through one on one with the keeper and passed it low
into the bottom right hand side of the net.
Geldie went three up
top and Postal brought on all their subs for the
last 20 minutes but there were no further goals.
Overall an impressive
performance from Postal who smartened up their act
considerably in terms of communication and shape and
who continue to look good up top.
A
second half where Postal rolled over and died
basically handed Woodside the points in this Div 1
East game at Inverdee.
Postal started the game with minimal changes from
the one that beat Johnshaven. Turbine dropped
out due to injury so McDonald moved from midfield
into attack and Ure took his place at right mid.
Apart from this, the team was unchanged.
There wasn't a lot between the teams first half.
Woodside possibly edged it in terms of pocession but
Postal definately had the better and more of the
chances.
The first 15 minutes Postal were looking a bit shaky
in defence with a seeming lack of organisation
between the four. Ball after ball was getting
in the back of the Postal defence as they struggled
to time their headers or mark the on running
midfield and forwards. Thankfully they got it
sorted out and looked a lot more comfortable for the
remaining 30 minutes of the half.
Postal had a great chance on 10 minutes when the
ball fell to a Postal player in the box but he could
only knock the ball over the bar from the 6 yard
box.
Postal had another half chance when the goalkeepr
dropped the ball at Bews feet but he coldn't get
enough on the ball to get a shot away.
It was Woodside who went in ahead though when they
drove forward down the Postal right after slack
pocession by Postal. The resultant shot from
outside the box seemed to be ball to arm as apposed
to arm to ball as it bounced off G.Patterson in the
box but there was very little arguments from the
Postal players and the Woodside player duly
converted high into the net.
HALF
TIME – Postal ALC 0 - Woodside 1
The Postal management
were confidant that Postal would be able to pull
back the deficit but the whole game swung when
Postal conceded an early second.
A ball into the
defence from the Postal left saw the Postal defender
get turned too easily and when the Woodside player
played the ball across the face of the Postal box it
was knocked home with little in the way of defensive
cover.
Postal were unlucky
not to get a goal back when they were awarded an
indirect free kick inside the Wooside box.
Buchan took the kick and was unfortunate to see it
bounce off the bar and out for a bye kick with the
keeper beat all ends up.
That was Postal's one
and only chance for the rest of the half and without
being unfair to woodside who looked fairly sharp it
was more to do with Postal not matching their first
half effort rather than Woodside lifting themselves.
Wave after wave of
Woodside attacks descended on the Postal goal with
little in the way of resistance from the midfield or
organisation from the defence behind them.
The game ended with
Woodside scoring another 3.
Overall, after a
slightly shaky Postal start they ended the 1st half
on par if not the better team. To then allow
ourselves to lose concentration, organisation,
communication and effort is unacceptable even at
this very early stage in the season. The
Postal management will be looking for a reaction
from every player this Saturday.
Postal arrived at Johnshaven with a depleted squad.
Mathers and Walder were on the bench but Walder was
only half fit.
The rain was heavy at the start of the game which
was dissapointing for the first game of the season
but the game actually ended with sunny blue skies.
Postal started the game well and were pushing the
home side back. In the first 15 minutes Postal
had a number of corner kicks without really
troubling the Johnshaven keepr.
Postal took the lead on the 20 minute mark when Bews
latched onto a ball in behind the Johnshaven defence
and when he attempted to round the keeper, he was
tripped. The keeper was booked and Bews
duly converted the penalty.
Hard work from McDonald on the Postal right was
paying off for Postal and he produced a decent drive
from distance mid way through the half.
Postal doubled their lead around the half hour mark
when a Bews
corner was caught by the wind and flew into the top
corner.
Johnshaven had a better last 10 minutes and had a
couple of chances. One came from a freekick
which Postal were trying to defend on the 18 yard
line. The ball was chipped in and with nobody
matching the Johnshaven run into the box the away
side were lucky to see the header going past the
post.
Johnshaven also had a header bang against the bar
from a cross from the Postal left.
HALF
TIME – Johnshaven 0 - Postal ALC 2
Postal started the
second half better than they finished the first and
were now getting Forrester further forward on the
left.
He had a chance early
on but it flew over the bar.
Mathers replaced
McDonald 15 minutes into the half.
Turbine did
well to increase Postal's lead to 3 soon after.
He collected the ball on the Postal left and then
showed good control and strength to keep his marker
at bay while running into the box and finish high
past the keeper.
Unfortunatley Postal
then decided to take the foot off the gas, allowing
Johnhaven to come forward.
The home side scored
with 10 minutes to go. A long kick out wasn't
dealt with by the Postal defence and when the on
running striker passed the ball from the right into
the middle of the box the other Johnshaven striker
had an easy task to roll it home.
Soon after, Turbine
had to come off with an ankle injury.
Johnshaven really gave
Postal a fright when the scored a second with 5
minutes to go. Again a relatively simple high
ball sailed over the heads of the defence and
allowed the same player who scored the first to
knock the ball past the keeper and roll it into the
empty net.
Johnshaven obviously
now had their tails up and Postal looked out on
their feet. Thankfully the ref blew the full
time whistle soon after.
Overall for 70 minutes
of the match Postal dominated but need to work on
their concentration towards the ends of the halves.
A good win though, and some pleasing, hard working
performances from a lot of the boys. Well
done.
On a hot balmy summer evening Postal travelled out
to Tarves with a decent squad available. An
almost identical lineup to the first friendly
against Bucksburn saw W.Keith replace the injured
Wiseman in goals.
The first half was a fairly even affair.
Tarves were shooting down the slope and pushed
Postal back at times but the back 3 were defending
well and limiting Tarves to shots from outside the
box.
It was Tarves who took the lead in controversial
fashion. Defending in their own box Postal
looked to have cleared their lines and were running
out, up the slope. Tarves played a through
ball into the box and with the Tarves player looking
at least 2 yards offside he stuck the ball past
Keith.
The tackling was certainly combative from the home
side and the Postal players were moaning a lot about
the lack of free kicks coming from the ref. To
be fair to the ref, some of the shouts were
embarrising though and a few of the Posties will be
red faced thinking back on them.
Postal had their own chances when they did get up
the slope. A corner from the Postal right was
headed goalwards by G.Patterson but when the ball
broke to B.Patterson, 6 yards out, his weak shot
couldn't breach the Tarves rearguard.
A
Bews chip was also close to hitting the back of the
net and the Tarves keeper did well from a number of
longer range efforts from Postal.
Postal equalised when the strong running Buchan
managed to spring the Tarves offside trap and with
the Tarves keeper off his line he cooly lobbed the
ball into the net.
The first half looked to be finishing all equal when
Tarves scored a lucky equaliser. A long
speculative shot bounced awkwardly in front of Keith
on the hard ground and it squirmed through his
fingers and into the net.
HALF
TIME – Tarves 2 - Postal ALC 1
Postal made a number
of changes at half time to give some boys a much
needed run out and some boys a rest. Cumming
and Scally came on for Mackie and B.Patterson
respectively. The away side also made a number
of changes throughout the second half but that can't
be used as an excuse for the fact that Tarves largly
dominated the second period.
Bews had an early
chance when he created space for himself and chipped
the goalkeepr only to see the ball bounce off the
bar with no Postal player on hand to head the ball
home but that chance was few and far between from
Postal in the second half.
The home side were
fully "committed" to every tackle but Postal at
times were being bounced off the ball far too
easily. Also as the gamesmanship and mouthing
from some of the Tarves boys increased Postal
allowed themselves to be too easily distracted,
losing their discipline and shape..........schoolboy
stuff.
Tarves scored their
3rd early in the half, when a cross from the Postal
left hand side was headed home unchallenged in the
box. Their fourth was a particularly sore one
for Postal. Mackie had been taken off to
protect an injury at half time but when he was taken
back on towards the end of the game he went over the
ankle just as he was about to challenge the forward
who knocked the ball home for Tarves' 4th.
Overall, a decent
first half was overshadowed by a very poor second
half. But to be fair this is why we play the
pre season games, to find out what needs improved
upon and get the mistakes, hopefully, out of our
system. To be fair to Tarves aswell, they
looked to be a decent outfit and if they can keep
their squad will do well in the 1st div.
2 days to go until the
league kicks off, can't wait. Here we go again
for what we hope will be a successfull season.
All the best for the season lads.
Postal travelled to Fettercairn on an overcast but
hot day for this second friendly of the season.
Due to bodies being missing and some more becoming
available, manager Patterson made changes.
Scally came back into the defence, Mackenzie came
into the midfield and Bews started up front.
Cumming and D.Buchan started on the bench.
The game was competitive from the start with the
home side putting in some meaty challenges,
especially on Mackenzie, Buchan and Mackie. If
it wasn't for the fact it was a friendly, the ref
would have surely produced the yellow card on more
than one occasion.
The first half was fairly even. Postal were
doing most of the pressing but the final ball was
poor and Mearns were looking the mose dangerous when
they broke at pace on the counter.
G.Patterson had a header from a corner.
Mackenzie missed a shot one on one with the keeper
and Bews had a great shot saved but it was Mearns
who took the lead around the 35 minute mark.
They broke down the Postal left and managed to get a
cross in from the bye line. The cross ended up
at the back post and Mackenzie could do little as he
was outjumped on the line by the Mearns number 8 who
headed into the net.
HALF
TIME – Mearns Utd 1 - Postal ALC 0
Mearns seemed to
commit soccer suicide within the first 5 minutes of
the second half. Postal had brought on
D.Buchan at Left midfield and Cumming into centre
midfield and when a long ball aimed at D.Buchan was
paried into the path of Bews he made no
mistake to net his first goal of the season in
clinical fashion from 6 yards low to the keepers
left.
Soon after, Postal
made it 2. An innoxious ball collected by the
Mearns keeper was dropped at the feet of J.Buchan
who knocked the ball home.
The 3rd was a good
strikers goal from Bews who met a low cross
into the box and nodded the ball home for his
second.
The Postal fourth was
a cracker. With Postal threatening the Mearns
goal, the ball broke just outside the box.
Mackenzie met the ball and fired a great shot
off the post from distance and past the despairing
Mearns keeper.
Annoyingly, Mearns
scored a consolation 4th with 5 minutes to go.
Postal lost concentration at the back and tried to
play a silly offside. The on running Mearns
player squared the ball for the oncoming striker to
knock easily home.
Postal missed a few
chances in the second half, most notably from
Cumming and Mackie but there was no more goals.
Overall, a decent
workout. There is obvioulsy still a bit to go
in terms of sharpness, shape at times and goals
against but the signs are good at the moment and if
we get the same result next Saturday we'll all be
happy.
Postal scraped a win in a competitive match out at
Strathburn park Inverurie. Postal started the
game with new players Ian Bruce and Steven Mathers
making their debuts. They also welcomed
G.Patterson back from Norway and C.Bews back into
the squad.
Postal started the game well and were passing the
ball around with confidence despite this being their
first game of the pre-season.
Macmillan in particular had a decent first 20
minutes for the away side.
Postal took a deserved lead when the ball broke to
Forrester
on the Postal left hand side, just outside the
Bucksburn box. A second later he lashed home a
long range shot past the Bucksburn keeper high in
the postage stamp.
Some rustyness began creeping into Postal's play and
they failed to find their passes a number of times.
To be fair, Bucksburn started closing Postal down
quicker and sharper forcing the errors.
Bucksburn forced an equaliser from a corner when
Postal couldn't clear their lines and after a "stramash"
in the box, a Bucksburn player poked it home.
5
minutes before the break Bucksburn scored their
second. The ball arrived at a Bucksburn
forwards feet from a setpiece (throw in or corner??)
on the Postal left and when he spun his man the ball
bounced off of G.Patterson past the helpless
Wiseman.
HALF
TIME – Bucksburn 2 - Postal ALC 1
Postal didn't have the
greatest second periods. They were looking a
bit off the pace compared to the home side but this
could have been due to the heavy training session
they did on Monday or perhaps the rash of subs which
were coming on and off possibly disturbing their
rythm.
Whatever the reason,
the home side were pressurising heavily and it was
against the run of play that Postal forced a second.
A corner from the Postal right was met well by
G.Patterson to head home.
Bucksburn were looking
poor at set pieces and Postal had another chance
when B.Patterson sent a header over the bar from
another corner.
Bucksburn scored a
third with 15 minutes to go when they broke down the
Postal left and the resultant cross/pull back was
met by the on rushing Bucksburn midfielder who fired
home from just outside the box. A very decent
strike.
Postal responded soon
after when McDonald collected the ball on the left
hand side of the Bucksburn box. His low cross
was fired in and luckily for Postal was met by a
defender to score the second OG of the match.
With the game looking
to finish in a draw, Postal were awarded a throw in
to the left of the home side's box. Macmillan
launched one in and with the keeper in no mans land
C.Patterson, a late sub, headed home to steal
the game.
Overall, Postal will
be unhappy that they conceded 3 goals but played
some decent football at times and will be happy that
they battled on to win the game. These games
are all about getting rid of the rustyness and
finding timing and sharpness so in that respect the
game was a success.
